Why do these people have no tears for the women and girls who can't tolerate mixed sex spaces and would be cut out of public life without single sex options? We know from polls that the majority of women are loosely what is often called 'gender critical', and dont want men in single sex spaces. I'd be very surprised if the WI didnt reflect societal attitudes.

Imagine if the WI did the unthinkable, and surveyed members!

The WI in the UK began in 1915. That's 110 years, during almost all of which it was single sex and successful.

If it really does completely collapse because that many members are so invested in it becoming a validation tool for men, which is really the only non predatory reason a man would want to join, then it's probably run its course anyway.

Agree. The WI and the Girl Guides were once well respected organisations and now they look utterly ridiculous. Politicians used to fear the WI - remember the slow hand-clapping of Tony Blair when he addressed the WI? - both organisations have totally betrayed their founding principles and core mission, the founders must be spinning in their graves.

Fine. According to the ruling, if a woman really does pass that convincingly as a man, she can legally be excluded from a single sex space. That's because she will be perceived as a man and cause the same distress, alarm and self exclusion as if she really were one. It's also an acceptable cost in maintaining single sex spaces. In all safeguards, you sometimes keep out the wrong person, but that's how it has to be to keep out the right people.

That does present a problem for the TM but that's their problem and their doctors and surgeons should ensure they are fully informed.

However, a woman needs to do much, much, much more than have short hair and no makeup to actually pass as a man.

If I had a pound for every time someone's done the Transman Gotcha and this had to be explained, I could buy the WI myself. Why don't you lot read the SC ruling? It's pretty good.
