To think it is not at all sad that the Women's Institute is now only for actual women?

“Incredibly sadly, we will have to restrict our membership on the basis of biological sex from April next year,” Green said. “But the message we really want to get across is that it remains our firm belief that transgender women are women, and that doesn’t change.”

Tellingly - they still think women can have a penis.

I doubt it. I bet there are members of the WI who have had to tolerate men as members and will now be able to get rid of them.

Yes. I doubt it to.

I suspect that women will start demanding that the law be followed and that women have no fear of court cases now.

I think the Members who never supported the inclusive policy would not allow it to be ignored.

But of course really this will only impact those whose trans identity is known.

But of course really this will only impact those whose trans identity is known.

Which is all of them, because human beings know whether a person is male or female within seconds (or less) of meeting them.

Even the ones who supposedly "pass" don't "pass" most of the time and the older they get, the less they "pass" and the more ridiculous they look. There is a good reason why (not that long ago) men used to dress in women's clothing for comic effect.

Only the trans "women" themselves believe they fool anyone. Even the people who pretend to believe "trans women are women" know the difference between a real woman and a bloke in a frock.

Bunch of men want to set up a group that includes women? No one is stopping them. Mixed sex is allowed

Yes I dont get this. We see whines of 'they don't want trans to exist!! 'all over the internet, when in fact we don't care how men present themselves just not in women's areas.

Why can't they see single sex spaces mean that and they should channel their fury and energy into making their own 'trans institutes' or similar.

LeftieRightsHoarder · 03/12/2025 18:50

ResusciAnnie · 03/12/2025 12:10

Surely they (and Girlguidng HQ) are just saying ‘sadly’ ‘devastatingly’ to appease the TRAs and protect themselves from more vitriol.

I wish I could believe that, Annie. Sadly I think they really are upset at having to prioritise those boring old-fashioned adult human females.

I laughed incredulously when I read the WI statement. You’d have thought they were announcing the untimely death of all the leadership in a freak jam explosion.

Yes 'only impact those whose trans identity is known' indeed. Which would be all of them, no amount of overtly feminine clothing and make up can change their voices, the size of their hands etc. Ditto women dressing as men, beards and tattoos fine but they are usually short and petite.

It's all very sad, I wish trans people would embrace their identity a bit more and just have their own clubs, committees, areas, sports. They'd be so much happier if they weren't forever trying to access the opposite sexes designated places.

Because they don’t want that, Gloriia .They need us as part of the furniture, to prove they’re in a feminine space.

Or just accept themselves for who they really are instead of forcing everyone else to pretend they are the opposite sex.

S1ngS1ng · 03/12/2025 12:13

That’s ridiculous. A few anti trans bullies don’t speak for the whole of MN. There is nothing to celebrate and many think it’s a sad day. Feel so sorry for those elderly trans members battling a double whammy of loneliness and exclusion now barred from attending. They’re doing no harm by attending and many will miss friends now barred from attending .The WI being forced to do this is so petty and nasty and the glee from a few on here is revolting. Just shows the mindset of a few. Feel sorry for WI they’re between a rock and a hard place.

If WI members didn't feel that being women only was important, there was nothing to stop them announcing that they had officially become mixed sex. I wouldn't feel too sorry for them.

Yes TRAs need to promote self acceptance. So it's fine to still be him/he and call themselves Shirley, or she/her and call themselves Dave. It is fine to wear a skirt and use the mens toilets.

Maybe this will be a new beginning regarding trans ideology as women have shown we won't be forced to accept the pretence.

The WI are a charity, and their charitable aims are an organisation for women.

I suppose in theory it may be possible to change the charitable objectives of a long standing charity, but oh my word, I can just about imagine the enormity and intransigence of doing so.

It's possible; Scouting did it back in the 90s. There was some rumbling but people realised it was necessary for the organisation to survive at all. Some people asked about boys joining Guiding but there wasn't sufficient desire for this to happen and Guiding was doing fine. It did lose some girls to Scouts but it still had sufficient numbers.

ETA: Scouting going mixed did prompt Guiding to get with the times a bit too. At that time, the Guiding magazine and so on were still very much focused on stereotypically feminine homemaking skills; nothing wrong with that but many girls left for Scouting because they wanted more. Guiding revamped itself accordingly and did a great job of it, up until this bloody debacle.

It’s great news but how did we ever get to this?

When did it become ok to prioritise men rather than let women have their own spaces?

If the Church managed it, I'm sure the WI could. I don't think they should and I don't think the will is there, but if the majority of the members wanted trans women to be included, they could make it mixed sex.

ArabellaSaurus · 03/12/2025 19:54

Yeah, I suppose the WI have just for some weird reason decided not to ask their members what they thought about allowing men to join. Odd.

Instead, here are the issues chosen by members to debate:

The shortlisted resolutions are:

  1. Accessible public toilet facilities to promote dignity, health and social inclusion
  2. Action on women’s homelessness
  3. Every child needs a friend
  4. Nearer to Nature
  5. Love your Vulva – Self-checking is your best defence against vulval cancer

You, as usual, because you're defending it as a valid point and also suggesting that charities for women and children should only be seen through a lens of what they do for trans people. Or have you been tantrumming all afternoon in defence of something you don't agree with?

Tantrumming 😂 all afternoon 😂 get a grip of yourself!

It's a handful of posts over several hours, you're the one engrossed in this not me. The hyperbole is off the charts with you! Totally in character with the whole "you think women aren't people" drama.

It's not a tantrum dear. Just calling out your shitty behaviour. You clearly don't like it 😂

The posts just get more and more solid, don't they...

Ok. I think that saying charities and campaigns for women and children don't help people betrays a disregard for the inherent value of women and children as people.

You took the initial post completely literally and accused me of saying the poster was suggesting women and children are actually a different species (lol). I clarified for you because for all I knew, you might have actually believed what you were saying. You then called it a "stupid conclusion". You don't say why, presumably because that would be harder than bashing out a lot of stuff about how I'm childish and stupid and a smelly poo, I don't know, I glazed over it. (I did see the bit where you told me to change my approach to sound cleverer and more reasonable, and that was funny.)

And there, I suppose, we have it. SNAFU, as they say in the military.

I feel sorry for the 80 year old mentioned in the article who has been a member for years.

I think it’s fair enough to restrict membership in the future, but there ought to be an exemption for those transwomen who have been going for years without any issues. These are not activists - they are people just trying to live their own lives.

Living their own lives using other people as props in their kink without those people's consent. There: I fixed your sentence for you.

You sound exactly like those people who complain that they are not allowed to call black people the N-word or slap co-workers' butts "anymore" as if it was ever acceptable or respectable behaviour.

I read on here a post that REALLY resonated with me
Its not womens spaces TW want access to its the women in them - so a toilet labelled "Ladies" that only TW used would not be of interest to them
They need us as window dressing
