Would you be happy to receive a Christmas cookie box as a gift?

I’m planning on making Christmas cookie boxes for friends and family this year in place of plastic tat as gifts. I’m planning for them to include:

• homemade digestives (chocolate)
• chocolate salami (like a rocky road in a log)
• snickerdoodles
• lemon biscotti (nut free)
• triple chocolate peppermint cookies
• vanilla bean shortbread
• chocolate cookies
• stained glass window biscuits

would you be happy to receive these?

Yes, I would be delighted! Much nicer than something you don't need/want.

OLDERME · 01/12/2025 21:54

I would. I like the personal touch. More about giving I think.

PersephoneParlormaid · 01/12/2025 21:54

Personally no, as we get given a hamper every year so that, along with yours would be too much.

analysetheintelligence · 01/12/2025 21:55

I’d hate it and chuck it, I don’t see why it’s a binary choice between plastic tat and homemade?

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 01/12/2025 21:55

It's a yes from me!

I just think that between the normal useless shite you get at this time of year and something I’m passionate about, I’d rather gift people something nice and tasty! Out of interest why would you hate it?

Absolutely! although the only thing I wonder is if I’d get to eat them all before they went past their best as it sounds a lot! Depends how many it’s to feed though I suppose (I have a small family!).

Yes please.

Because I'm likely not on your Christmas list, would you be able to list the recipes for Lemon biscotti and triple chocolate peppermint cookies.

24Dogcuddler · 01/12/2025 21:57

Sounds like a lovely selection and a thoughtful gift. My worry would be that it’s a lot of effort, they won’t keep long at all and unlikely to be eaten over the actual festive period due to the amount of other sweet items around.

snoopythebeagle · 01/12/2025 21:58

No - only because I get so much food at Christmas that they would likely go to waste.

CheezePleeze · 01/12/2025 21:58

Yes, my lovely SIL does similar for us every year!

Crucially though I know she's very clean, whereas I'd be a bit reluctant if it was a gift from someone I didn't know.

biscotti - https://laughingspatula.com/lemon-biscotti/

Triple chocolate cookie - https://www.janespatisserie.com/2015/03/23/triple-chocolate-chip-crinkle-cookies/ (I just add crushed up candy canes. Probably not what you’re meant to do but it works!)

Lemon Biscotti - Super easy and impressive cookie!

We love this Lemon Biscotti recipe! Easier to make than cookies. Tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside.

A thumbs up from me! Sounds like a gorgeous gift

TheChosenTwo · 01/12/2025 22:00

I think a lot of them would end up wasted here - not because I don’t think they’d be tasty but because we already make enough treats over the festive period!
And they surely have a very short shelf life being made fresh?

I used to do them quite religiously at Christmas and they’d always get eaten. My tactic is to do one of each biscuit per family member, in cellophane bags. They tend to last for a couple of days but I do always time it to be firmly in the “fuck it, it’s Christmas” period. So people tend to just eat what they want 😂

When my SIL used to make similar for us, I'd take them into work to share if I thought they weren't going to get eaten while they were still fresh.

Also I'd bring a few with me when visiting friends and we'd have them with a cup of tea.

Twilight7777 · 01/12/2025 22:02

I’d be thrilled!

oh its all for family who trust me with their cakes etc., for occasions all the time. I like to think they trust me by now 😂

yum, sounds delish

Inwhitelights · 01/12/2025 22:04

No thanks. But I would like one of those square tins of shortbread, with the stag on the front, from Tesco or Sainsbury’s!

VictoriaEra2 · 01/12/2025 22:06

No. Sorry. Too sugary sweet.

raspberrieswithchocolate · 01/12/2025 22:06

Yes, I'd love a gift like this. A few years ago a family member gave me a selection of homemade cupcakes and biscuits at Christmas and I loved them all.

AgentPidge · 01/12/2025 22:10

Yes, it's a lovely present. I don't normally eat biscuits but a friend in Germany makes delicious Christmas spiced cookies and I really enjoy getting that Christmassy box. Unfortunately, there are quite a lot of crumbs by the time they get to me, so pack yours well, OP!

user1471538275 · 01/12/2025 22:12

@PeachRings Thanks for the recipes.

I have candy canes that are ready for crushing!!

Yeah, same. We have so much food over the festive period and are also out visiting family and friends and eating out, I just don't think they'd get eaten while still fresh.
I'd love something homemade with a longer shelf life though. Things like pickles, chutneys and jams are always appreciated
