Would you be happy to receive a Christmas cookie box as a gift?

I’m planning on making Christmas cookie boxes for friends and family this year in place of plastic tat as gifts. I’m planning for them to include:

• homemade digestives (chocolate)
• chocolate salami (like a rocky road in a log)
• snickerdoodles
• lemon biscotti (nut free)
• triple chocolate peppermint cookies
• vanilla bean shortbread
• chocolate cookies
• stained glass window biscuits

would you be happy to receive these?

I think it just depends on your audience doesn’t it.

I don’t really like biscuits or cake all that much (like to eat well and prefer a bit of chocolate if I must go sweet) so this would fall very flat on me. But I would think quite a few people wouldn’t want weeks and weeks supply of biscuits after Christmas, which is already a very indulgent time.

I also don’t receive plastic tat at Christmas? My kids might have a few bits sure, but the adults? No. I’d never give a gift set unless it were asked for.

But if I did want to receive a load of baked goods at Christmas, yes I’d prefer they were homemade by a family member (and preferably not wrapped in plastic!)

I do think sometimes the homemade stuff can become more about the person giving than receiving.

Personally I’d go for less biscuits and a smaller present too.

I wouldn't be impressed. There is too much unhealthy food hanging around at Christmas and I don't need more.

Fedupofwimps · 02/12/2025 06:03

I host my family every year so I am already drowning in every type of confectionery imaginable! I wouldn't be thrilled to receive more biscuits sorry.
I do give (store bought) biscuits to family that stay at home as part of their hamper but it is more of a treat for them as they are not stuffed to the gills with food in every nook and cranny of their home!

PollyBell · 02/12/2025 06:05

Do you deliver? Yes plese!

MsGinaLinetti · 02/12/2025 06:14

Personally I'd love this but reading recent threads I'd say it's a risk

clamshell24 · 02/12/2025 06:34

No, though they sound lovely, it wouldn't last and we're both trying to lose weight.

Don't you own a freezer? Everything OP has listed can be put in the freezer to be defrosted when you're ready to eat them.

Do you work for the freezer marketing board or something?! 🤣 You'll be pleased to hear that I actually have two...but my personal preference is still not to receive homemade biscuits thanks! OP asked for opinions, I gave mine.

No I wouldn't like that for a gift. Far too unhealthy with the sugar and fat content.

I can’t tell if this is a wind up or not?

I don't eat food made in another person's house, sorry, but if folk don't have an issue with that then it's a kind gift.

Terrytheweasel · 02/12/2025 06:46

I would think it was very thoughtful but would personally prefer soaps or something non edible. It’s too much sugar for me.

Wow so you never go round to friends houses for a meal or anything like that?
if you were having coffee with a friend and they produced a slice of cake they’d made that morning you’d refuse?
I love home made!

Lulu1919 · 02/12/2025 06:51

Yes please
Sounds lovely

I’m not that poster but agree that excessive sugar isn’t very appealing.

Less is more. I’d rather receive a small box with four exquisitely decorated treats than a dozen.

Iocanepowder · 02/12/2025 06:57

Tbh they would likely go to waste in my house, sorry. Especially as you said they would only be good for a couple of days.

No need for the 'wow', we're not all the same.

I’d hate it and chuck it, I don’t see why it’s a binary choice between plastic tat and homemade?

😂😂

Don't hold back!

EmeraldShamrock000 · 02/12/2025 07:02

I would be happy, if I knew you had a clean home, if I was unsure. Then I couldn't eat them.

springintoaction2 · 02/12/2025 07:02

@PeachRings that sounds lovely - and I would certainly enjoy that,

People saying 'it's too much fat and sugar' - remember it's not compulsorary to eat everything at once. Or you could share with other people?? Assuming you have a few friends of course.

There was no need for that passive aggressive last sentence - believe it or not, some people do have few or even no friends nearby, due to circumstances outwith their control.

Questionsquestions121 · 02/12/2025 07:05

Yes it’s a lovely idea :) I did homemade fudge and shortbread one year and everyone really liked it :)

OP asked for opinions and so posters are giving them. It would be wasted on us

Holluschickie · 02/12/2025 07:11

Super happy and moved to get home baking. Thoughtful gift.
