Would you be happy to receive a Christmas cookie box as a gift?

I’m planning on making Christmas cookie boxes for friends and family this year in place of plastic tat as gifts. I’m planning for them to include:

• homemade digestives (chocolate)
• chocolate salami (like a rocky road in a log)
• snickerdoodles
• lemon biscotti (nut free)
• triple chocolate peppermint cookies
• vanilla bean shortbread
• chocolate cookies
• stained glass window biscuits

would you be happy to receive these?

@PeachRings Thanks for the recipes.

I have candy canes that are ready for crushing!!

it’s all I use candy canes for because they’re not that loved in our family! I just love the festive baking. My plan is to start the doughs this weekend and freeze them for a week or so

I think it depends. There are a few friends who have dubious hygiene, from whom i would not want baked goods. Cats walking on the kitchen counters, them not washing hands after using the ladies etc. With them i would appreciate the thought but not actually eat the gift.

Equally there are others from whom it would be very well received.

IfOnlyYouWouldListen · 01/12/2025 22:17

Yes please! Although I'd definitely make sure the peppermint ones were thoroughly and separately wrapped so they didn't flavour any of the others as plenty of people aren't so keen on mint

A thumbs up from me! Sounds like a gorgeous gift

I'm sorry no, it would be too much to eat and would probably go off before it was all eaten

spideysmumma · 01/12/2025 22:21

I would be absolutely delighted!

When my SIL used to make similar for us, I'd take them into work to share if I thought they weren't going to get eaten while they were still fresh.

Also I'd bring a few with me when visiting friends and we'd have them with a cup of tea.

Ah now that’s a good point, if I received them a week before Christmas I’d happily take them into the office and everyone would be really happy!

The other point raised was about kitchen hygiene, I work with a lovely lady who smokes in her house, every time she brings a homemade cake in even the tin stinks of cigarettes 😭 no way would I eat anything from her kitchen even though she’s the sweetest kindest lady. And another equally lovely colleague smells of wet dog and I’d not be keen to eat anything from his house either (not that he ever brings anything in!).
although op has addressed this already and seems everyone is happy enough to eat their cooking!

usedtobeaylis · 01/12/2025 22:24

I would love that! The lemon biscotti sounds amazing.

RaininSummer · 01/12/2025 22:26

Sounds lovely but only if they would keep a few weeks/month as I wouldn't eat biscuits at Christmas because of all the other actual food.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/12/2025 22:27

Amazing, but a huge amount of work

Muffsies · 01/12/2025 22:28

Sounds amazing, i would be delighted to receive something like that. It represents a lot of thought and effort, and that selection sounds stunning.

I have completely given up shop bought cake and biscuits, don't care for them at all.. but i LOVE homemade. There's a universe of a difference between the two

My colleague brought in a lovely homemade cake once and as I sat there eating it, I internally tutted at the dog hair stuck to the icing.

Then I remembered she doesn't have a dog and I have two! 🤭🤣

I think it'd come off my jumper.

Yes, good point, foil cover them!

TheFallenMadonna · 01/12/2025 22:30

Not at Christmas (assuming you are giving them as a surprise) because I will already have loads of food in and you said thet only last a short time. For another occasion, yes!

Rainbowcat77 · 01/12/2025 22:30

Oh gosh yes please!! I’m secretly hoping I’m friends with you in real life 😛

gannett · 01/12/2025 22:31

God yes. That's a great selection of biscuits too. Choc salami is such a wonderful thing. Never had lemon biscotti but very very interested in rectifying that.

I use very cute cellophane bags with gingerbread men on them 😂

This made me laugh 🤣

I wonder what it's like to have the kind of brain that automatically goes to hygiene horror when presented with homemade food. So glad I don't have one like that.

MessageMystery · 01/12/2025 22:32

I wouldn’t eat it but I’m funny about eating things made in other peoples kitchens.

To be fair I do, because of a colleague who told us all about his mouse infestation as we tucked into brownies he had made.

But I’m baking for people who are very happy to eat my baking regularly 😂

I would be thrilled with a gift like that OP, much better than stuff I don't actually want or need.

Bobnobob · 01/12/2025 22:34

It’s a nice present and I would appreciate the effort.

Nobody buys me plastic or useless tat though.. my friends and family take the time to buy me thoughtful things that I will use. I appreciate those more than a box of biscuits/cakes that everyone has received the same thing.

gogomomo2 · 01/12/2025 22:34

A few would be nice but as it’s just the 2 of us I wouldn’t want that much sweet stuff with a short shelf life. Homemade biscuits don’t taste as good after one day let alone a few for that many. I’d consider a mix of edible items not just biscuits including longer life - homemade chutney would make me very happy

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 01/12/2025 22:34

Sounds lovely but I would personally cut down on the number of different flavours as it will take you forever. Also if you are putting in same box, the flavours might end up rubbing off on each other and being a bit weird.

gannett · 01/12/2025 22:35

I feel I need to point out that I have never turned down any homemade food in my life. Nor have I ever suffered food poisoning. The hygiene worries are really misplaced (and they're probably more relevant to supermarket food packaged on conveyor belts in factories...)
