Road rage driver called me fat

Ouchthatcutdeep · 01/12/2025 10:17

Had been Christmas shopping yesterday, driving home and traffic lights turned amber as I was literally driving through them.

At the next set of lights some angry man got out his car shouting at me I went through a red light (I certainly didn't as I have the dash cam footage) He was so angry, and yet I hadn't affected him in any way shape or form.

I told him to get a life and he called me a fat bitch. Then got back in his car screaming insults as he went.

I am still shaken but his words have really upset me. I feel down today and embarrassed. I didn't even think I was fat, so why would he say that to me?

My brother is like that calls me a fat c…
my brother is a very nasty person and no one likes him.
they say what they think will most hurt a woman.
ignoring is best. It’s not personal

it’s always men! My DH and I had an incident where we were on a zebra crossing and these young men, in a car, were cussing us for making them stop (not abruptly). One of the passengers decided to continue out of the back window threatening violence! He was astonished when I told him to get out of the car for me to take him on - I’m a black belt in karate - but he wasn’t to know that! You’ve never seen a window closed so fast in your life 🤣 An elderly woman willing to take him on 😂

He already has a life, so why would you tell him to get one?

Because you were angry, and he was angry, and everybody knows 'fat bitch' is a good insult to throw at almost any woman. It's practically guaranteed to upset them.

ZiggyZowie · 01/12/2025 12:57

Don't give it any headspace.

When my son and daughter argue, he calls her fat

She's a size 8. !!!!

FigTreeInEurope · 01/12/2025 12:58

Some men see masculinity as calm, capable, polite, secure in themselves and slow to anger. Then there's the others. It's absolutely nothing, but a reflection of their own sense of self worth.

butterpuffed · 01/12/2025 13:00

He called you a fat bitch to annoy/upset you and it worked . Can you not see that's the reason angry men say it?

YetAnotherAlias62 · 01/12/2025 13:01

If you['ve got him on dashcam (including him shouting at you), I'd submit it to your local police - you won't be the first or last person he's been threatening to.....

supersop60 · 01/12/2025 13:03

I love Jo Brand's reply to similar insults -
Well I can always check out of fat club, but you will never be able to check out of twat club.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 01/12/2025 13:06

Ignore him, he picked the quickest easiest insult, if you were slim, he'd probably have called you a skinny bitch or a whore, because he is a scumbag.
Try not let it get to you.

BumpyWinds · 01/12/2025 13:07

Someone said this to me once. I replied "yeah, well at least I can lose weight, you'll just always be a dick!" Left him speechless! 😂

GooseberryGreen · 01/12/2025 13:08

I wince when I hear derogatory remarks along the lines of "nasty little man". People can't help being little. I say that as the mother of a very kind nice young man who is on the shorter and skinnier side. Frankly, using little as an insult is just as bad as calling somebody fat. I am sure there are plenty of large unpleasant people too.

bluedinos · 01/12/2025 13:10

It has nothing to do with your weight, I am a size 6 and have been called fat by an angry man in the street, funny how it’s always the overweight men who use it.

ginasevern · 01/12/2025 13:37

When I was 23 years old, slim, blonde and pretty (those were the days!), a male driver called me a "fat, ugly old bitch and I probably made men want to vomit". It's power and control pure and simple. They don't say it to 6ft male rugby players do they?

ClaudiaNaughton · 01/12/2025 16:28

I always think there’s probably some poor woman at home who has to put up with this rubbish. Hope not though.

thecatneuterer · 01/12/2025 17:00

Redpeach · 01/12/2025 10:23

I have been called similar, i am slim, so just laughed it off, these guys are losers

Me too. I've a BMI of 19.

Bahhhhhumbug · 01/12/2025 17:43

I used to be a bartender in ROI, it's a serious trade there ! and though l say so myself l was very efficient fast and accurate. But obviously when alcohol involved you still get the odd knobhead disgruntled customer. What l noticed was that l was never just a bitch or cow, but always an English one. I have a completely Irish ancestry going back to god knows when but lived in England for most of my childhood so have a mainly English accent except when drunk.
I think as in OPs case some men are just angry and looking for someone to take it out on. Oddly they never choose a tattoo covered 6ft trucker (or ilk) it's always the 'barmaid' or lone woman driver🤔

Dinosaurhearmeroar · 01/12/2025 17:52

oh and I’m sure he was a peach 😂 you’re upset because it’s a horrible thing to say but he’s just going for the obvious misogynistic insults - it’s that or slut. Dust yourself off, fight the patriarchy and eff ‘im!

user2848502016 · 01/12/2025 17:52

He’s just a disgusting misogynist that’s why.
A man called “fatty” at me from his van a few months ago - I was mortified then just angry, how dare he?! (Also yes I could do with losing a couple of stone but I’m really not that fat, size 14!)

Shelley999 · 02/12/2025 11:48

Next time a man insults you like this, the reply is 'It's ok, pin pr*ck'

Whilst wigglng your little finger.

PithyTaupeWriter · 02/12/2025 15:05

He said it because he lacks imagination and it's the go-to insult for misogynists. He'd have said it if you were a size 8.

Now that I've reached middle age and can see these men for what they are, I like to stare at them and say 'You're a very angry little man, aren't you? Very emotional.' Obvs you have to use some common sense when deciding whether to say something like this, but it's very satisfying if you can get away with it.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 02/12/2025 15:09

I told some lads to keep their dog under control once and they called me a ‘nosy old cow’. I was 32 at the time!

BetteDavisChin · 02/12/2025 15:33

It's not just men who do this. I was overtaking on the motorway, a car got far too close behind me. I moved into the next lane and the car overtook me. I was really surprised to see a woman driver gesticulating the 'wanker' signal at me 😯
Her face was contorted so aggressively.
Horrifying to see such unhinged behaviour at 70 mph.

DonnaBanana · 02/12/2025 15:35

The trick is to see people like that a bit like NPCs in a video game. They are just mean stock characters put in the world to give you a challenge and a story to tell. I think of most other drivers like this. It also means when some idiot overtakes you and is then wrapped around a lamppost further down the road you can just laugh it off without a care.
