Is there anyone on here who voted Labour who is genuinely happy with how things are going

I didn’t vote Labour, but was actually quite excited. We needed change, now I dint think that at all and although Tories weren’t great in many respects, this shit show feels worse! I’m so tired of our politicians just not doing what is best for the country and having to curtail to babk benchers/unions, lining their own pockets and wardrobes and generally just being untrustworthy.
i have no doubt Farage will get in next time, and it will be Keir’s fault.

They can have the kids, but they are responsible for having them, so they should be responsible for supporting them both financially and emotionally. Who are you to dictate that others should pay to support them! Mind your language please.

What do you think should happen when parents do not look after their children properly or cannot look after them, for financial reasons?

Do you think everyone on benefits started out on them? perhaps they are on them because of sickness? divorce? or bereavement?

Do you think children not adequately cared for, end up costing us all far more because of poor education/health leading to more joblessness/crime as adults and more cost to the NHS or should we let them die?

Maybe we could resurrect the Poor House.

Nonsense Reform is running Staffordshire council and making a good job of it. Pot holes are being filled in at last.

This racist Reform Councillor?

I think, overall, they are doing better than what we have had for the last 14 years - Austerity, Brexit, failed public services, the national debt doubled, roads a mess, Liz Truss, justice & prison systems collapsed - a woman raped today who gets her attacker arrested, can expect a court appearance in 2029....

Doesn't any of this bother you?

Of course Labour have made mistakes but not on the scale the Tories did.

Reform have no policies and would, should they win, have in Govt, almost no one who has ever been an MP, let alone been in the shadow front bench, it would be an utter disaster.

As has happened in the councils they ve won.... Kent council paid 1000s to have new school markings repainted, then found out the school had been closed for over 9 years, then lied and said it only cost £350....

I have Gerald voted Labour throughout my life and have always worked in the public sector. Labour are objectively no better and have cause significant damage to public services over the years. Of course I am concerned about various issues but Labour will not fix anything and indeed look likely to do more damage. I will not vote con/reform either.

What did people expect, with the utter shitshow that was inherited by them?

It was just starting to turn a corner. This lot are going to destroy every ounce of ambition and economic growth. We are doomed.

EasternStandard · 01/12/2025 17:19

BurntBroccoli · 01/12/2025 17:08

They have been whining for a General Election since July 2024!

And the threads on the previous lot went on longer and some are still bringing them up in every post.

People keep trotting out this line (both Labour supporters and Labour themselves) Yes, the Tories left things in a mess, I won’t lie about that. However, the Labour Party have just made things worse and refused to take any responsibility.

Mischance · 01/12/2025 17:22

ScholesPanda · 01/12/2025 14:42

Yes. Progress is slow but I expected that. Net migration is down, NHS waiting lists are starting to fall. Defence expenditure is rising in the face of new threats and decreased US support.

I think people underestimate how much the budget had to please the bond markets to avoid a Truss-style panic. And how little those markets trust promises by any party to cut spending.

It's not perfect, but nothing ever is. One thing I do disagree with is people saying 'blame Keir if Farage is elected.' If you choose to vote for Farage then do so, that's your right, but don't act like a toddler and say that someone else made you do it FFS. Did Keir make you put your hand in the fire too?

This with knobs on.
Having a petulant immature electorate who do not grasp life's realities is one of democracy's main problems. We are locked in a cycle of hope and disappointment that is caused by false expectations.
Give these guys a chance. At least they are not Truss/Johnson.

HelloDandy · 01/12/2025 17:27

I voted for Labour. I don't know how I feel about the party. They inherited a shitshow and it's going to take an age to fix it. Honestly don't know who I would vote for if there was to be an election anytime soon. Absolutely not Conservative. No to Lib Dems. No to Reform. I've thought about the Greens but I still can't make my mind up about them.

People keep trotting this line out that everything is worse, but the reality is, its not at all.
Growth is higher, interest rates a lot lower, inward investment up substantially, due to US tech, finally we've a handle on legal migration, down from 1.2m under Sunak to 200k

Even the oft trotted out "unemployment is up" yes it is, partly due to AI (and NI changes i agree) but unemployment is inline with historic trends.

But number in work has also increased by over 400k in the last 12months too.

Both gilt yields and inflation are going down too.

My DD works in the NHS, anecdotally, her neuro therapy waiting lists have gone from 22 weeks to 2 weeks, because they were given more money and employed more staff.

So whilst Labour have fucked up big time, its not on the scale of the last lot.

Whatever they do they have to get on top of the benefits bill, it i completely unsustainable no matter how unpopular that feels to people. At the moment they seem keen to increase the amount being paid out and no real idea of how to tackle it as the backbenchers kick off so they backtrack.

Removal of waste from public services including NHS, civil service etc is a way to also save billions and be able to invest in better front line services. Again, too difficult so just keep on pumping money in or set up new quangos to review and actually achieve nothing.

So you’d remove the triple lock which forms the majority of the benefits bill?

Total benefits bill £313 billion

Pensions & pensioner-related support (state pension, pension credit, pensioner housing benefit, WFA
£150.7 billion - 48%

Working Age benefits (including Working People on low wages)
£117.6 billion

Health/Disabilty (including 1/5th on Pensioners)
£41.4 billion

Child/Family benefits
£13.3 billion

Other welfare related inc Northern Ireland social security -
£19.9 billion

I don’t know who will be around in 4 years time. Definitely not con/lab/reform though so my options are somewhat limited.

Well Labour, Conservative, Lib Dem, SNP, Plaid, Green, DUP, SDLP, Independent will be around then. Perhaps not Reform, that could possibly change.

That article is literally about how J P morgan are throwing the government a few sweeties in exchange for no tax rises. Maybe the hospitality/farming industries etc just couldn't come up with enough sweeties.

It’s literally about more than that, you didn’t read to the end, did you?

I would look at everything and ensure that it’s fair and proportional to what is needed and can be afforded.

OmNomShiva · 01/12/2025 18:18

I’m perfectly happy with them. After all that 15 year austerity Tory horror show which involved a revolving door parade of shit Prime Ministers, fucking Brexit, and a bungled pandemic response, this government is a breath of fresh air.

caringcarer · 01/12/2025 18:31

Previous counsellors left pot holes for 5 years. Within 6 months of Reform lots of big potholes were filled in. The previous counsellors used to contribute tax payers money to the Pride march. Reform told them if they wanted to march they would have to pay for it themselves. They are focusing on SN DC, potholes and next focus is ensuring community centre will be able to be booked by all.

Labour have told councils to fix pot holes, and are incentivising them to do so

It's not a Reform victory, it's a Labour one

Your approval rating is incredibly low, most people don’t think they’re doing well. Fixating on a few mners isn’t going to change that.

So pot holes and flags with a sprinkling of racism.

What about the other services?

And yet you seem quite defensive and not at all proud of whatever party, apart from Labour - that's a given -, you support. Why don't you just say it?

No idea what you’re on about. As said your badgering on Reform was better suited to someone voting for them. Read their posts and ask about policies, go for it.

Labour are not doing well, it has nothing to do with a few posters on here. Aim your ire at your party instead.
