Is there anyone on here who voted Labour who is genuinely happy with how things are going

I didn’t vote Labour, but was actually quite excited. We needed change, now I dint think that at all and although Tories weren’t great in many respects, this shit show feels worse! I’m so tired of our politicians just not doing what is best for the country and having to curtail to babk benchers/unions, lining their own pockets and wardrobes and generally just being untrustworthy.
i have no doubt Farage will get in next time, and it will be Keir’s fault.

Link to the quotes would be helpful because I'm certainly not taking your word for it.

Passionate about what?

I have no idea what you’re on about. It was a post on higher taxes not leading to growth. Even Labour have said you can’t tax your way to growth.

The Reform Party and its solution. Stop gaslighting.

Ive always been anti reform, but honestly starting my to think they deserve a chance. I’m actually so depressed by it all.

Just an illustration of what do expect from a Reform government.

I didn’t bring them up you did. Feel free to look into it.

But that's not what Starmer said. You're welcome.

DdraigGoch · 01/12/2025 14:19

Kleeneze · 01/12/2025 14:13

Starmer has done nothing about these things. Absolutely nothing. Young people see high house prices and high taxes on higher tax payers and low taxes on lower tax payers and think sod this, I’m off.

He also didn't cause them and has been in government for all of five minutes.

Not removing taxes introduced by previous governments ≠ putting taxes on

The majority of people on benefits have a job. And the majority of those that don't have a reason why they can't work, carers for example

My issue is the forced labour and paying in food vouchers you are suggesting and the general benefit bashing.

34% of people getting UC have a job, 34% is a minority, 66% of people getting UC do not work, that is two thirds pretty much.

Feel free to gaslight on policies you purport to defend but are afraid to back up.

BIossomtoes · 01/12/2025 14:14

What would you like him to do?

Getting rid of the 62% tax rate when you hit £100k would show some understanding of the tax system. Why pay a higher rate of tax on every £1 at £100k than every £1 at £150k? Is that fair? And let people on £100k get childcare hours (as another thread shows, if someone in London on that wage (and most on that wage are in London) your in poverty if you have 2 kids in nursery and are on £100k). Give everyone child benefit. To pay for the three above tax measures, increase the higher and top rates of tax. These three things alone are a) fair, b) very easy to implement, c) tax neutral or tax raising, d) boost growth, e) reflect the way that those much admired countries such as Scandinavia treat their tax payers. Pay in and you get something back.

Do you think that being a carer is a job?

You are chasing round people not even voting for them. Feel free to hound / follow someone else.

Or read up in your own time.

But these are not hard things to do. And would show he recognises the issues, recognises the damage the policies are doing. He looks totally clueless.

Hound? It's an open discussion that you are engaging with me on. Why shouldn't I reply?

True it’s pointless, you are welcome to get what you’re after from others.

Like higher wages?

Raising the minimum wage hasn't gone down well either

Well yeah, that needs to happen but it's not a new idea either. It's more of the same.

No, it’s not. 100% of people on benefits shouldn’t have a job. It’s an absolute scandal that we’re subsidising employers who don’t pay their workers enough to live on. Nobody who’s working should be so poor they need to claim benefits.

Christmascarrotjumper · 01/12/2025 14:28

Well yeah, that needs to happen but it's not a new idea either. It's more of the same.

The issue with the minimum wage is that we used to have a below oecd minimum wage and we rightly improved that, but now it’s way off the top of the oecd average and businesses are struggling to meet it. Hence entry level jobs being cut.

We need to address the costs of living in this country instead. What is being done to build houses here? Social housing etc? We need to bring down the cost of housing desperately.

So you subscribe to the “everyone except me should pay more tax” schtick? How would raising those tax levels help?

Why are people poor on the minimum wage? Housing and childcare. We have some of the highest housing costs on the planet, and we have the highest childcare cost on the planet.
