Is there anyone on here who voted Labour who is genuinely happy with how things are going

I didn’t vote Labour, but was actually quite excited. We needed change, now I dint think that at all and although Tories weren’t great in many respects, this shit show feels worse! I’m so tired of our politicians just not doing what is best for the country and having to curtail to babk benchers/unions, lining their own pockets and wardrobes and generally just being untrustworthy.
i have no doubt Farage will get in next time, and it will be Keir’s fault.

Is that a serious question?

You think we should leave people destitute?

Do you want to see the return of workhouses?

What kind of society do you want to live in?

ETA to ask what you mean with "I am unlikely to get a state pension due to incoming meansyeating"

Edited

Typo. Means testing. The state pension is likely to get so unaffordable in the near future that anyone who has any sort of means is unlikely to get one at all. I’m mid 40s and don’t expect to get a pension.

I want benefits cut to a level where people are forced to work, and preferable paid in food vouchers. No netflix, hair cuts, nails etc. just food, utilities and rent. If you want more you have to work. I want the money saved to provide much higher benefits to those who have worked in the past and are temporarily unable to do so.

Migration fell overall (mainly due to restrictions on students being able to bring family over-which I believe was introduced by Tories). Asylum migration did not fall, it made up 11% of all migration and is double what it was in 2019.

the migration picture as a whole is not positive. There are less people getting skilled worker visas and a higher share of refugees.

the economic impact of migration isn’t how many of migrating, but who is migrating.

Remind me, under which party did net migration exceed 900k in a year? Was it the same one who once promised to get it under 100k/year?

Higher taxes won’t help growth. Even Labour have uttered that. And yet £40bn and £26bn in extra taxes.

Can you explain to me how Reform will suddenly within months turn the Brexit debacle on its head? After all Farage started it.

Forced labour and paid in food vouchers, wow

Is Keir Starmer’s policy actually putting taxes on the average young professional worker so high that they flee overseas? Is he doing that intentionally just to bring the numbers down? Odd policy.

If they don’t like it they can do what the rest of us do and get a job. Why do you have an issue with that? What’s your problem exactly?

The majority of people on benefits have a job. And the majority of those that don't have a reason why they can't work, carers for example

My issue is the forced labour and paying in food vouchers you are suggesting and the general benefit bashing.

Ah yes, it's just oh so easy to get a job

Anyone peddling simple solutions to complex situations is either a fool or a fraudster

Universal Credit doesn't cover utilities let alone Council tax. Even if you never use gas and electric you have to pay a standing charge.

Food vouchers are costly to administer and those who work would have to pay that via higher taxes.

And thus far, has throwing endless money at people been a solution?

Yeah because benefits are so generous Hmm

As even the saintly Keir Starmer said today, paying people endless benefits is preventing people getting back into work and ultimately failing them.

But the bill has grown and grown and grown, but apparently we have more children in poverty? How much money do we need to throw at these problems before we think, maybe time to try something else.

Starmer is implementing taxes on young professionals, is he?

The Personal Allowance taper has been in place for 15 years. The Tories have had plenty of time to sort out that 60% marginal rate. The High Income Child Benefit Charge was introduced under Osborne.

I’m sorry. To actually quote him he said the welfare system has ‘trapped people in poverty’ and kept people who are out of work in ‘a poverty of ambition’.

Alltheunreadbooks · 01/12/2025 14:11

They've made mistakes bit they were left a shocking state of affairs by last 14 years of Tory self interest and hatred for the general population.

The media have been after this governance they won the election, it's laughable the lengths they go to , to discredit them

Oh, and anyone that thinks a bunch of grifting racists with no policies 'deserves a chance' can't really be taken seriously.

Like higher wages?

Raising the minimum wage hasn't gone down well either

Starmer has done nothing about these things. Absolutely nothing. Young people see high house prices and high taxes on higher tax payers and low taxes on lower tax payers and think sod this, I’m off.
