To be annoyed that DH didn’t get the elves out of the loft?

My DD’s room is the loft but there are very large eves that we store stuff in. However they have spiders in and I’m severely arachnophobic. DD was out all day and dh kept saying he’d do it. He hasn’t, now Dd is in bed and he’s going to tell dc that they’ll arrive tomorrow evening. I kept reminding him and he kept saying in a minute. AIBU to think that’s rubbish? Both dc said this evening how excited they are to wake up to the elves. He knows and just didn't do it.

Can’t he just get them out when she’s asleep?

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 30/11/2025 20:00

Our one is magic. He just turns up on 1st December. Get one of those.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 30/11/2025 20:00

How old is DD? He will need to get them when they are asleep.

Tomorrow is 1st Dec, which is why the op wanted them out today!

IPM · 30/11/2025 20:01

Why are you storing things in a place that you will never be able to access?

AhBiscuits · 30/11/2025 20:01

YANBU, he's an arse. Send him to get them now. If she wakes up he can just tell her he's getting [random item you store there]

DontMowMyMeadow · 30/11/2025 20:02

Elves in the eaves on the eve of the month

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 30/11/2025 20:03

Rentokil got the mice out of our loft. You could try them, I think they do elves.

Nearlyholidays · 30/11/2025 20:04

I'm sorry but you could have just got them out yourself. Yes there may be spiders but really there are spiders throughout the house. Sorry!

Ablondiebutagoody · 30/11/2025 20:04

How many spiders can there be? Why do they restrict themselves to that part of the house?

InterestedDad37 · 30/11/2025 20:05

Shouldn't let your irrational fear of 🕷️ get in the way of an irrational belief in elves.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 30/11/2025 20:05

Tell him to sneak in now she’s asleep, if she wakes up he apologises, he was looking for a spanner or something

BluePony · 30/11/2025 20:12

He won’t do it now as he’s not feeling great this evening but was fine during the day. No I always see huge ones in there, I physically can’t. Can only crawl in there and the elves are right round the far corner somewhere but don’t know where. They’re with the Christmas decs hence loft.

Seems like the perfect excuse to bin the elves nonsense. Write her a letter saying the elves have left to go spend their time with younger kids, and they enjoyed their time with her, but its time for them to move on.

Then get on with your lives happy in being creepy elf free.

Well you are both choosing not to get them out now. It’s not a massive deal though is it. What will happen if he still can’t be arsed tomorrow?

Him not feeling well now is a him problem; it’s called the consequences of his lazy-arsed actions.

Have you told him that when he acts like an inept husband and an uncaring father you find him really fucking unattractive?

BluePony · 30/11/2025 20:17

Do you know what it’s like to have an intense phobia @ToKittyornottoKitty? I’d love to go and get them, I physically can’t do it though.

He's being a twat, not sorry!

he kept saying in a minute men or woman, it translates as: "i can't be arsed and I won't do it"

Delay the Elf arrival: send a message for tomorrow morning with the advent calendars or something (hiding, slept late, being cheeky, ask ChatGPT for idea)
so the Elf are around from the 01st, but the actual Elf is turning up on the second, or in the afternoon after school or whatever

BluePony · 30/11/2025 20:18

@WelshRabBiteagree re actions. I said I’m really disappointed and he said thanks for making him feel bad about it.

😂

Does he realise how unattractive that is? Men complain that their wives never want sex (not quite, but you know what I mean), it's not sex we have a problem with, its that behaviour, would put off the keenest porn star. Yuk

Driftingawaynow · 30/11/2025 20:20

He’s being a prick

he should feel bad! It's a little thing for his own kids, how hard can it be!

Ugh! This riles me up so much and just makes me so happy to be single. What he is feeling is healthy shame because he’s being a shitbag.
sorry OP. Can you not make him do it now?
