Why would a firebrigrade carry a person in this instance

The person obviously wasn’t fully unconscious as they remember the fire officer a bit. No pyscially injuries and no disabilities

Being “awake” is not the same as being alert or ambulatory.
People have seizures, first responders are called. Having eyes open and “recognizing” who is around you in no way means you have the physical and medical ability to walk/talk (coherently) and go about in a normal way with enough strength and stamina to go from a-b.
Even if a person suddenly becomes alert and orientated, regaining full strength the wise thing is to continue with the plan till in a practical/safe spot.

But if someone was looking at the person then they are awake now

What does someone being able to open their eyes have to do with their ability to stand, balance and move effectively?

There could be any number of things that caused them to lose consciousness. It's not the same as falling asleep.

Strawberrydelight78 · 30/11/2025 03:49

If she wasn't awake when they picked her up she must have been in an unsafe place where she was. I've had to pick up/pull DD off roads the odd times she's had a seizure while crossing. Or if she was somewhere there was a lot of people walking past or crowding around . Nobody wants to be stared at when their having a medical episode. If your not there to help just being nosey just buggeroff.

TheAutumnCrow · 30/11/2025 02:13

So your friend says she just woke up to find herself being carried by a Fire and Rescue crew member?

Sounds like fun to me.

Strawberrydelight78 · 30/11/2025 04:03

Youwerewrong · 30/11/2025 02:38

No she said she felt medically unwell and was possibly unconscious at point

So she wouldn't have been up to walking if unconscious at one point. She would be confused about where she was so at risk of walking into danger if she did walk.

I know when my DD has been taken to hospital for uncontrolled cluster seizures they insist she doesn't walk around. Much to her annoyance and mine when I'm trying to tell them she will need to go to the toilet. She hates wetting herself even though she seems quite capable of walking her legs are wobbly. They bring a commode which she won't use too different. They eventually agree I can take her in a wheelchair.qqqqaq

And, therefore, would need to be carried...

I don't get your issue here.

Her friend has told her this story, OP doesn't believe her and is trying to get mumsnet to prove she is lying.

JustMyView13 · 30/11/2025 04:56

The fire brjgade are called by the ambulance service where a patient is so overweight they cannot be moved safely without assistance. They can remove windows, set up lifting equipment, whatever is needed to safely extract the person. It seems unlikely that your friend was so overweight the fire brigade were called, but then he carried her out single handed. More likely she was on equipment and there was a couple of them removing her. The fire brigade don’t diagnose in those scenarios, and the medics are still in charge of treatment.
The reason for not allowing her to walk once awake would be that it would’ve been deemed too dangerous had she have fallen. That said, this is all guess work as it sounds like she’s only given half the story.

DeathStare · 30/11/2025 05:03

Ao your overweight friend was asleep in her bed, nothing at all happened (can't have done because that would be a crucial bit of information to not tell us) and she woke up to find a fire officer carrying her down the stairs?

If so, yes that's odd.

But that's not what happened is it OP? That's not the story your friend told you. There is a massive - and crucially important- middle section missing.

So stop being fucking weird and either tell us the story or not, because at the moment yes you are being unreasonable

Yes, I understand that. It's just bizarre to be so focused on the carrying part.

Andromed1 · 30/11/2025 05:10

Being awake doesn't mean able to walk downstairs safely. What exactly happened?

This, a one person ff lift and evacuate. Is this a “friend” op or you and you are trying to claim nefariousness from fire service who decided to rock up at an address, go into a home and scoop out a person from their bed for no reason at all? Well @JudgeBread and other fire service staff… who’d a thunk you had all that spare time! 🙄

Dontcallmescarface · 30/11/2025 05:43

Youwerewrong · 30/11/2025 03:31

DP has seizures. After an episode he is able to look at me but he is by no means "awake" so you really have no idea what you're talking about do you?

Were you hoping that the responses were going to be "gosh that's awful, "how dare they", "she's been abused", "she's lying"? Admit it OP, you tried to rage bait and it's backfired.

Mymanyellow · 30/11/2025 05:57

Perhaps they were bored that day and thought they would turn up at your mates and carry her for no reason.
If she came to and woke up in a fireman’s arms ( swoon) then she needed carrying in the beginning.

Jaggy1 · 30/11/2025 05:58

Not fully conscious.

Woke up to find herself being carried.

To wake up, one must be out in the first place. So yes, while someone conscious may be able to walk, someone unconscious very much can’t.
Fantastic that your friend was fine & woke up, but to get into their arms and be carried in the first place without knowing, meant she was unconscious.

How much do you hate your friend that you must sit up all night trying to prove her wrong? Go to bed.

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 30/11/2025 06:06

Once again, MN causes me to question how some people manage to function in everyday life....

Youwerewrong · 30/11/2025 03:31

I have never said this to anyone on Mumsnet but you are being ridiculous. Yes yo can be looking at someone but unconscious.
Mor importantly what's the point of this megadrip feed post? Are you jealous your friend was carried by fire brigade crew member? Go pretend to faint at their doorstep? If not it's such a minor lie if it's a lie. Let it go. Especially as you want to nanoofeed as to context and reason for your post.

RedRiverShore5 · 30/11/2025 06:10

So what exactly is the problem

lovemyaussie · 30/11/2025 06:12

@BringBackCatsEyes I’m so pleased you said this! It makes me want to scream. Perhaps I should head over to Pedants Corner.

Owly11 · 30/11/2025 06:22

So you have started a thread with scant detail about an incident your friend described because you don't believe her and want to prove her wrong. And when people give lots of helpful answers saying how and why this might have happened you disagree with them. Seriously? Why? Why don't you believe her? You sound very immature.

it enormously comforting to have someone else articulate your own position this well.

MyDeftDuck · 30/11/2025 07:11

Occasionally, ambulance control will request assistance from the fire service if there’s no ambulances available to attend an emergency. Fire trucks and cars all carry O2 and are first aid trained too.

Heylittlesongbird · 30/11/2025 07:11

OP you are allowed to write more than one sentence in each post. In fact it’s positively helpful and enables you to describe the scenario fully and clarify what your doubts or questions are. Then responders are able to be more helpful.
