Why would a firebrigrade carry a person in this instance

The person obviously wasn’t fully unconscious as they remember the fire officer a bit. No pyscially injuries and no disabilities

Maybe to get them out of the house if they are morbidly obese. A firefighter I knew (and the rest of the watch) regularly had to facilitate getting very fat people out of their beds and homes for things like hospital appointments

TeaRoseTallulah · 29/11/2025 23:18

Why do you think OP?

BringBackCatsEyes · 29/11/2025 23:33

Isn't the fire brigade the whole lot of them (as per title)?
Was this person in a medical situation (vague) carried by the whole fire brigade?!

DH was ‘flat carried’ fully conscious out of our 3rd floor flat by the fire brigade (down a spiral fire exit 😱) because his blood pressure was so low the paramedics didn’t want him to be upright. The lift isn’t big enough for a horizontal stretcher so down the staircase they went.

Can I just say I have been thinking about the horror of this on and off for 2 hours 😭 your poor DH

BreakingBroken · 30/11/2025 00:43

in one remote community that i lived in the fire and ambulance service were combined and all ambulance crew were firemen.
now in a bigger city big enough that firemen (all trained as paramedics as well) respond equally to accidents, so not unusual to have police, fire and ambulance crews at a scene.

This has got to be the most boring and disappointing thread I've read. How can I stop notifications when someone posts. It's just pish.

Why do you think OP?

She was awake enough that she saw his face when he was carrying her down surely they could have woken her to walk

You're going to need more context for a decent answer.

Was it you?
What are you concerned about?

Hello I work for the fire service. Sometimes during medical incidents the ambulance service will call us to help us extricate a patient - sometimes it's because they're considered bariatric, sometimes it's just because the area we're trying to move them through is tricky, narrow or dangerous. Fire fighters tend to be better equipped to carry people than paramedics!

But being overweight doesn’t mean people can’t walk

So your friend says she just woke up to find herself being carried by a Fire and Rescue crew member?

And that was it. She just randomly upped and said that with no other detail. You said..... what?

It does sometimes mate. At least one bariatric call a day in our region.

I'm just telling you the possible reasons a fireman might be needed to lift someone out of a building, not my fault you only provided vague information with no context. Excuse me for trying to be helpful.

Sorry thank you the person I’m talking about is overweight but is normally able to walk herself

If she was unconscious/semi conscious and in need of getting to an ambulance, the fire service may have been called by the ambulance service to help get her out safely. It's not uncommon at all, it's actually one of the most common callouts we get aside from fire and smoke alarms going off. They don't have the equipment in a normal ambo wagon to extricate people in some circumstances, firemen do. I literally dispatch firemen to calls like this every day, it's not unusual at all.

Look, either explain properly what your friend said, and why you don’t believe her, or bugger off because frankly this is the most pointless thread I’ve read in weeks.

Ask the ‘fire brigade’ they’ll know…

You can't just 'wake' an unconscious person to walk, there's a huge risk of them going down again and further injuring themselves.

But if someone was looking at the person then they are awake now
