To think your eyes/eyeballs aren’t self cleaning?

I’m not sure how it came up in conversation but me and DH were rocking about showering/cleaning and DH mentioned he doesn’t open his eyes in the shower much. I asked how he cleans his eyeballs and he looked confused. Turns out he doesn’t wash his eyeballs at all. He closes his eyes and washes his face but not his actual eyes?

AIBU to tell him his eyes don’t clean themselves and he needs to open his eyes and rinse them with the shower?

Is that all, just once a week? Ewwww, tell me you don't care about the cleanliness of your eyes, without telling me you don't care about the cleanliness of your eyes! 👀

I love cleaning my eyeballs. I lie in the bath and completely submerge myself with my eyes wide open

I regularly take mine out and put them in the dishwasher. Gets them squeaky clean. 😁

Mine get a quick spritz with my glasses cleaner daily, and a proper going over with Windolene (the pink cream, obviously) on Sundays.

I did my weekly bleach douche of my fanjo. Squeaky clean!!!

There’s a lethal bug that can affect eyes in tap water. You aren’t supposed to use tap water to bathe eyes unless it’s unavoidable.

And no, I’ve never washed my eyeballs. Eyelashes, eyebrows and tears keep the dirt out.

Isn’t it clear? Maybe you need to wash your eyes.

I put mine in the slow cooker on low overnight. Then soak for half an hour in ammonia and give them a quick polish with drain cleaner and mine have never been so sparkly and bright. Using the slow cooker makes them swell and now I’ve got the lovely big eyes I’ve always wanted 😵‍💫👀

oh be careful, I heard it was dangerous to mix ammonia and drain cleaner.

It’s been fine so far thanks for the concern. It’s really toughened up my eyeballs so much so that I can now use them for the odd game of marbles when I’m a bit bored. Obviously I always lose as I can’t see what I’m doing. 😆

Please don't ' wash your eyes' by any method, your eyes have tears for self cleansing and trying to clean them could introducr infection. Of course if you get an infection you may be advised to gently bathe your eyelids and lashes, which is a different matter

I think eyeballs are very much ‘self-cleaning’, that’s what tears are for. I wash around my eyes to get rid of sleep etc, but never my actual eye balls. 👀
