AIBU to say my Dyson is a Cunt?

in a year I have only been able to use it a handful of times. It stops working after a couple of minutes and I have to pull a piece of fluff out of its arse before it will go again. I have never been able to do more than half a rug before it needs emptying and the fucking clips that are supposed to be so easy to open are actually very stiff and I have to lie the dirty bastard on my clean sofa to get them open. I have spent more time watching You Tube videos on how to coax the little fucker to work than I have vacuuming. You have to wash the filter, no, you have to replace the filter, no, you have to tweeze a couple of hairs out of its backside. I bought it because it was light and I am old and struggled with my heavy hoover. The worst £500 I have ever spent and could ill afford.

I can only conclude that James Dyson has majority shares in blood pressure medication …

(Get a cordless Vax - they’re lovely!)

OverlyFragrant · 28/11/2025 14:15

Henry hoovers are the way and cost a fifth of your dyson

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 28/11/2025 14:15

We have never bought one for this exact reason, they seem such a faff and are So expensive

I agree. Love my Vax. (I used to have a Dyson.)

BigYellowLegoHead · 28/11/2025 14:16

Yep, they’re useless!!! Get a shark, much much better and still relatively light to use. They have a 5 year warranty and I’ve just had a free motor sent out to replace mine which had gone a bit faulty. Products and customer services with shark are amazing.

Bonjovispyjamas · 28/11/2025 14:17

Yep, I learnt the hard way that they're a total waste of money too.

BeckyBloom · 28/11/2025 14:18

Honestly love my cordless Dyson! It’s 7 years old and still gojng strong. Bought a corded Shark for longer cleans and used it twice as I dont like it! I only bought it due to all the love they get!

BePinkOrca · 28/11/2025 14:19

I hate Dyson, my hoover does the same. Had the straighters and they broke just out of warranty. I am certain the battery was failing but I kept thinking I had not charged them. They basically said do one. Hate them now with a passion and think their products are crap. I have loads from them as-well (fans, hairdryer, hoovers) but the hoover and straighters have made me loose faith in them.

Honestly I love mine and never have issues. Maybe it's to do with the rug or carpet pile you have. I love mine

My old Henry gave up the ghost so I got a new one. Henry Xtra.

He's horrid. Only one suction power, all the attachments are lightweight and shit. The actual carpet attachments dragged up so much hair in one hoover it needs to be vigorously cleaned and all the hair untangled?

I'm using my old attachments.

Glad I only spent £120 on it and can't wait for this one to explode.

PatThePenguin · 28/11/2025 14:21

Oh you need a Shark.

Not a cordless one, but the 'pet hair/lift away' one.

They're fab and not a bit cunty.

GinkoRebelFoxes · 28/11/2025 14:22

The original Dysons were amazing; mine lasted ages. Every “upgrade” since then has made them worse. to add insult to injury, the owner has revealed himself to be more of a bastard with every succeeding year. From funding Brexit, then moving his manufacturing overseas, to hoarding land to avoid tax.

I have a shark, and it has been great. (I don’t like the smell that builds up in a Henry.)

Forthismoment · 28/11/2025 14:25

I loved my original grey and yellow Dyson DC01 -probably purchased over 30 years ago. It revolutionised vacuuming. Bitterly regret ever upgrading it to better (!!), newer models. Every once since then has been plastic crap!!

RainbowBagels · 28/11/2025 14:30

A year! Thats amateur hour! I got mine with John Lewis vouchers we got as a wedding present. 20 years ago. Its too heavy, I cant empty the thingy ( clips again) the tube kinks all the time and no one stocks new ones because its not worth their while. I've had other hoovers. They arent as good so I end up back to using it. I want it to die so I can justify buying a new one. It refuses.

TrippingOverMyAssets · 28/11/2025 14:34

Well he can’t be as much of a cunt as my Henry.

yup. every word of this is true.
would never buy another Dyson now because they're shit and James D is one.

Sartre · 28/11/2025 14:42

Ahh thank you so much for this! I actually feel like I’m losing my mind with ours most of the time. I always call it a needy little bastard. You use it for about a minute before it’s flashing saying the filter is full. Then you, as you say, have to dig your hands in to grab the ball of hair/dust from the little hole before continuing.

I also don’t think it’s functional unless on max power which lasts all of 5 minutes before dying. I hate it.

Henrys are absolute wankers. Do not recommend. They keep tipping over, the cable is far too short and they do a crap job for the money.

Far better to buy a similar one from the likes of Toolstation which is suitable for construction sites - better suction, better dust control, better filters.

I accidentally bought a henry hoover meant for professional cleaners, has extra long lead and enough length on the hose to do the stairs. Was only £109. Only problem is its very heavy.

My Dyson animal literally exploded and nearly gave me a heart attack as smoke and sparks billowed out of the handle (out of warranty naturally🤬).

amispeakingintongues · 28/11/2025 14:49

I’m ghosting my Dyson. 3 years of pain. Decided I’m not wasting one more moment of my life tending to its needs. Hopefully I damage it beyond repair soon.

Radiatorvalves · 28/11/2025 14:50

Is it under guarantee? If so see if they will fix it. We had one for years and when it died I was very happy to replace it with something else. James Dyson’s Brexit stance and moving his business off shore…. Well he’s not in my Christmas card list. Not that he’d care.

PinkFootstool · 28/11/2025 14:51

@Mossstitch even the professionals ones don't have decent HEPA filters. It's a fallacy that they are good for things like construction sites and dealing with sawdust work, but they aren't up to standard for dust control etc.

Pippa12 · 28/11/2025 14:53

Have you rung the customer service help line? I did. I received a video call back, I could demonstrate the problem, the representative identified the issue and sent me a replacement part free of charge. Admittedly it’s not the best hoover I’ve ever owned but it’s functional now. Give them a whirl!

newrubylane · 28/11/2025 15:01

I hate my cordless Dyson. It's soooo heavy, it clogs easily, the pick up is crap on the standard setting but on the max suction setting the battery only lasts for about two minutes. I have requested a new hoover for Xmas.
