So we are a family with 2 kids still at home (5 and 15, eldest now at uni). Long-term private renters. Oven completely packed up last Friday - landlady notified immediately. Not a fuse - oven completely gone and needs replacing.
AIBU to think that we should have had a new oven put in by now (Thursday). It is literally just a case of plug and go.
Husband thinks the wait is fine; I disagree. Still not heard when it will be fitted.

@ihaterain2024 That's awful! How many kids do you have? Bet it was tricky feeding everyone 😞

You have other advantages over 'social tenants'

if you think they have such a great deal are you on the waiting list??

Edited

Interesting. What are these advantages?

Ginmonkeyagain · 30/11/2025 07:19

We own and our oven developed a fault yesterday. Earliest engineer visit I could book was 10 December. That said at least of you own you have a bit more control over the situation.

Kitchenbattle · 30/11/2025 07:56

When we bought our house we had to wait 2weeks for all the appliances to arrive and be fitted from the kitchen company. We then had to order a washing machine and a dryer from a different store. They said it would be 3 weeks.we moved in and the date came and went, I rang them and they said they were waiting for delivery, they had no idea when it would come in. It really had nothing to do with owning or renting. Now I did wait a further week and a half before I said I wanted something else. They eventually gave me as higher spec item for no price charge. So it was 4 weeks and several phonecalls before I got something. Your LL could just have no control over it, they may not have the funds to spend more on a different one.

Mrsnothingthanks · 30/11/2025 08:55

@Theyreeatingthedogs I'd love to know too.

Just because your old oven plugged into a socket it doesn't mean the new one will be able too - so a qualified sparky may be needed. If you are a LL you really should be getting all electrical work done by a qualified person otherwise you can be held liable.

I often think tenants forget that although they can do xyz straight from the internet LL's are held to a higher standard.

Given your previous posts I'm no longer engaging with you. You WERE a LL (well that's what you say) for 20 years, but haven't been for sometime.

the world is a different place now.

@Theyreeatingthedogs I'd love to know too.

Then read what I've previously said to you.

but if you think you have no advantages with this LL, move, no one is making you rent from her.

@AutumnLeavesFallingFast Your tone is rather aggressive; I'm sorry that you feel angry right now. Have you considered some therapy?

You just spout absolute rubbish. You're not engaging because you made a ridiculous comment and can't back it up. You also say to the OP to read what you have previously said but this does not answer her question. You don't know when I gave up being a LL yet you say the world is a different place now. Really? In 3 years?

No, it's not aggressive.

I'm not angry, a bit frustrated that you're whinging that an oven has not been replaced at the click of your fingers. That you have a landlady keeping your rent at well below market rate & instead of appreciating that you're just whinging that social housing tenants have it better than you.

but you're being really rude now & so I'm off, keep whinging about nothing...

FFS YES. things are very different than they were 3 years ago.

my previous ousts DO answer her, your lack of comprehension skills are nit my problem.

you & OP keep being rude, it's ridiculous.

mamagogo1 · 30/11/2025 22:41

@ihaterain2024

i had similar, well in my case on removing the old lino we found a hole, sewer pipe where it shouldn’t be and a host of other issues that took 2 months to rectify, only then could we fit the kitchen and do the second fix electrics and plumbing. Thankfully it was summer so lots of fish and salad with couscous, stir fries on an electric table top grill, and do many takeaways the kids didn’t want any more!

Mrsnothingthanks · 30/11/2025 22:58

@Theyreeatingthedogs Apparently we're the ones being rude. Of course we are(!) I'm still waiting to hear why that particular poster feels private tenants have such huge advantages over social housing tenants as I'm genuinely interested.

This makes no sense whatsoever. The rude one is you. I have been trying to help the OP. You just cause problems with your ignorance.

Mrsnothingthanks · 01/12/2025 12:07

@Theyreeatingthedogs I agree totally and thank you - you have been very helpful.
The good news is..finally we have an oven! Fitted by LL's son and working well.

Mrsnothingthanks · 01/12/2025 19:05

@Theyreeatingthedogs Thanks. My husband does all of the cooking in our house so he's happy! 😀
