I guess this won’t be shouted about in the news. Such a good thing

Many immigrants have high skills . They are qualified to do the high skill jobs. Many do low skilled jobs because they need to eat. They do not lose those skills when they take a temporary job. So when the job becomes available they can do it because they have the skills.

I am not sure I can make it any simpler for you.

Where is your data to support that? I have supplied the report which states "low skilled immigrants" but so far you've just given me your opinion.

Oh my goodness. I saw your post before you edited it. Uggh...I hope you edited your post because you realised how racist it was but is this really what people think? Eu Immigration ok- Non eu immigration not ok?

What on earth are you talking about? I added a missing 'are' into the first sentence.

Look on the bright side, you’ll never be far from a barbers or a vape shop. Depressing isn’t it ☹️

Yes, it's depressing. Let's hope the future population see fit to not only contribute to the country, but also preserve its historical sites, countryside and wildlife. Although, Labour are planning on trashing those anyway, so they'll beat them to it I guess.

smallglassbottle · 27/11/2025 15:14

No idea but you don't uproot everything you know and at great expense to sweep the streets or deliver food by bike as the pinicle of career progression

It's all relative though. To some people this will be an improvement.

GentleOlive · 27/11/2025 15:17

203k is an insanely high number. But because the public has been conditioned to be shit on by those in power and then have an ice cold bucket of water poured over them and left out in -2c, the public is stupid enough to fall for ‘good news’ stories like this. 900k people came into the country last year, mostly low skilled, bogus students and some high skilled. On the other hundreds of thousands of high skilled, high paid locals left because of the state of this country and the constant assault on them for actually working and paying their way. Imagine that, 900k immigration.

In other real news though, asylum applications hit a record number. Yippeee.

InterestedDad37 · 27/11/2025 15:17

YABU for saying "It won't be shouted about in the news" - I usually have 24hr news or radio on as 'background noise' when at home. It's been on every single summary, hourly report etc. There is no conspiracy to hide such news.

Why let facts get in the way of a racist generalisation?

smallglassbottle · Today 14:30

So we're swapping skilled people for unskilled, possibly criminal people who may or may not pay tax and who cost the country money anyway.

ie. All immigrants are scrounging criminals

I didn't say all immigrants are 'scrounging criminals', but the attitudes towards women, girls and the rapes and attacks aren't filling me with optimism. We have enough home grown problematic men to begin with without facilitating even more of them. Can't we have women and small children instead?

The op said in low skilled jobs. That doesn't equate to lie skilled immigrants

ruffler45 · 27/11/2025 15:21

Depends on who has left and who has arrived?

I doubt the government knows...

How would the small children get here?

The data says 255K British nationals left between March 24-March 25 plus obviously more from April 25- now

that's impressive stats, thank you for sharing.

So in a year we lost 111k 16-34yo, the exact demographics every country wants to attract. I can bet it's not NEETs leaving the UK.

Anecdotally, my DCs former classmates, now mostly doing A-levels at top selective private schools, are all considering leaving and going to unis abroad. These kids are amongst the very brightest in the country

How did Ukrainians managed this? escaping real war? I believe there were almost exclusively women, children and elderly

Because there is a martial law prohibiting men from 18-60 from leaving the Ukraine.

My original point that you quoted was that many do but are taking low skilled jobs until they secure a higher paying one that utilises their skills better.

There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that the people who are coming in and working as delivery drivers were actually neuroscientists in their own country and just waiting to get an appropriate job here. What the data actually says is that they are low skilled workers.

And equally there is no evidence to the contrary.

Believe it or not but I know about this.

The question was how would women and children migrants get here without men. So I answered with the example of Ukrainian refugees, who managed just fine.

Crikeyalmighty · 27/11/2025 16:20

@TeenagersAngst could that be though because of the Dublin agreement which meant as part of EU we had the right of send back - something people forget about - when we were in Denmark they used this and did a ton of repatriations of people regularly who had arrived without appropriate visas -

peanutbuttertoasty · 27/11/2025 16:25

And quality control....? Numbers aren't everything.

LidlAmaretto · 27/11/2025 16:26

Holluschickie · 27/11/2025 13:52

The new immigration rules recently announced by Shabana Mahmood suggest extending time to get ILR from 5 years to 10 years for most, but reducing it to 3 years for high earners and keeping it at 5 for doctors and nurses.
So rules to attract the rich and high skilled are already in place.
It's another matter that few high earners will want to come here and give up most of their income in tax. And you can't stop people leaving.

Edited

But they're are doctors and nurses trained in the UK who can't get jobs because of worldwide recruitment into the NHS. Its one of the reasons for the doctors strikes. We've trained these people at huge expense then they can't get jobs. Minimum wage jobs being done by immigrants mean no minimum wage jobs for British young people starting out, students needing to too up their loans, people who need pay time work, young peolle who need work excoriating, and yes, people who decide they would rather not work but should be made to. We cannot continue importing people we then have to pay more benefits to. This was Boris Johnson doing and the whole ' Boriswave' will be eligible for benefits this year.

I'm not sure which of my posts you are commenting on?

I think the Dublin agreement is often quoted as the anti-Brexit 'gotcha' - but as far as I'm aware, we didn't use it nearly as much as people might have imagined pre-Brexit. And EU countries are all struggling with immigration so it's clearly not as easy as sending everyone back to the first country they arrived in.

It’s not a ‘ton’ anywhere in that agreement. Hence ROI, Germany and others having the same issues. The numbers are very low for everyone.

To be fair, Ukraine was set up as a legal route so people could come here through airports etc.

People coming on boats can't do this - hence the calls for 'safe and legal routes'.

I’m actively taking steps to emigrate because this country isn’t one I want my kids to grow up in anymore. The public sector is decimated, our once thriving city centre is a complete shithole and it feels like the whole country is full of small minded, isolationist racists. I’m trying to get out before it implodes, and we’re taking our tax payments with us.

Me too!
