Has Reeves hit a new low- saying it's misogyny?

Christmaspuddingsss · 25/11/2025 07:59

I couldn't believe I was reading this today.

She accuses her critics of being against her budget plans because she is a woman. (But ignores the number of U turns she's done because of the criticism from back benchers)

Using the 'misogyny' card is really desperate IMO.

While misogyny is definitely an issue in politics and in the press, the main issue for Reeves is competence, honesty and being able to control the narrative. The leaks over the budget have been awful. Almosts like they leaked every thought they had to see if it would fly. They promised no more tax rises a year ago...and now there is going to be a massive rises again. Labour should have been honest about their plans for tax hikes and spending. Frankly they would have won the election anyway and at least have had a mandate for their policies. Now they just look like they are incompetent, or liars, or both.

‘Rachel from accounts’ is a response to the absolute porkers she’s told on her CV. People are rightly furious about this. She’s incompetent and unqualified for her position. Don’t give a rats ass whether she’s a woman. I do care about the wrecking ball she’s taken to the economy.

Not on her CV.

Frenchues · 25/11/2025 10:23

Is the economy her fault or is it a mess due to global macro factors and "the Tories 14 years of mismanagement".

She has an MSc in economics from the LSE. So why doesn't she just apply what she learnt.

Rather than raising income tax, which would have had minimal impact, her policies have damaged just about every growth lever there is. The UK is now uninvestable. Not to mention refusing to get a grip on their unbelievably reckless spending.

Swiftasthewind · 25/11/2025 10:29

It’s a simple fact that women in politics face derision and mockery when men don’t, and that’s sheer misogyny. You don’t see people mocking Kier Starmer as robotic and lifeless and you didn’t see people mocking Rishi Sunak’s height. It just didn’t happen. Ever.

It’s misogyny. And whatever other personal characteristic I can use as a cudgel against the detractors. Does anybody know if she a lesbian or disabled by any chance?

Not on her CV.

Are you splitting hairs on purpose or do you not understand where her 'CV' was seen?

It was on Linkedin (which she wrote herself, and then changed once it was scrutinised.)

If you do not know, Linkedin is an abbreviated CV in most cases, showing education, qualifications, employment , dates and positions held.

I'm sure you do know, though.

Not before claiming she hadn’t written it herself 🤣 She’s a pathetic human. Arrogant, deceitful, thinks we’re all stupid.

Araminta1003 · 25/11/2025 10:31

It’s isn’t misogyny per se. She just isn’t up to the job. Was always a tall order, first female Chancellor. It would have required a FTSE 100 female CEO type to really stand out. She couldn’t run a small company so how was she ever going to pull this one off.

I blame Starmer. He should have appointed someone like Streeting who can inspire confidence and talk the talk. He clearly didn’t as he was scared that Streeting would outshine him. The reality is the PM does the world stuff and the Chancellor does a lot that is most important here and so is quasi second in line.

Of course you do! Where were you?????????

Keir son of a toolmaker . Keir has no personality etc etc - all the time!

Rishi was pounced on for wearing the wrong shoes when he was visiting a poor region of the UK. He was also mocked in photos in the press for his height when photographed alongside taller men.

Boris was mocked for his hair and scruffy suits.

Going back years, Michael Foot was mocked for his donkey jackets.

John 'Two Jags' Prescott

etc etc

Quite agree. She must be on the ropes now and trying to deflect. She is completely useless. Couldn’t even get the welfare bill down and crying does her no good. Looks weak and feeble. She was literally shaking and is clearly in the wrong role.

There's nothing wrong with crying, you are being sexist implying that it's weak/feeble as associated with women more than men.

NewCushions · 25/11/2025 10:46

What's most astonishing to me is that people can even attempt to say that female politicians don't face the most insane amount of misogynist, sexist bullshit.

We all KNOW that Boris and is his cronies were booze head party fuckers, including throughout Covid. But has any publicatoin ever posted a photo implying that makes him a lush like they did when Angela Raynor dared to be enjoying a large glass of wine in her free time? no no, it's all "Beers down the pub, one of the lads" bullshit for Boris and Rishi and all the rest, from a man who hasn't entered a pub "with the lads" in his life.

Have we ever had two male leaders at a meeting where the headlies compared their bodies as we did with Teresa May and Nicola whats-her-face in Scotland? No, we certainly have not.

Did anyone ever comment on what any of our female prime ministers' husbands wore? God no. But clearly that's not the same for every single wife of a PM, ever.

A FTSE 100 CEO does not have the right credentials for Chancellor. Equally, how many would there be to choose from, seem as we live on such a mysognistic society team days probably not many.

The markets reacted to her crying. They would also have reacted if a male chancellor had cried in the commons, whilst sitting next to the PM, on live TV, at a pivotal moment.
This impacts all of us, and she shouldn't be given a free pass simply because she is female. That would be sexist.

There’s everything wrong with crying on the front bench in parliament when you are chancellor of the exchequer during and economic crisis and your job is to reassure the markets

peanutbuttertoasty · 25/11/2025 10:55

What she really means is stop scrutinising me, I’m a woman. But that’s Labour all over isn’t it? Identity is everything, performance hardly matters. Can you IMAGINE the crowing if Labour were run by a black woman like the Tories? We’d never hear the fucking end of it. Whereas Kemi is mostly judged on her (fairly mediocre) performance. So you’re first female chancellor? So fucking what… get on with your job and grow the economy.

To pick up on one comment - 'Rachel from Accounts' was based on her being economical with the truth on her CV and giving herself more credibility than she had.

The same as her experience at the Bank of England where she wasn't actually an economist.

She has an MSc from LSE. That makes her a trained economist.

colorpie · 25/11/2025 11:01

I don't think that the criticism of her budget are due to misogyny but I think that her being a woman give some people a bit of extra motivation to join the pile on. I saw the same play out with racism and sexism with Diane Abbott and Meghan Markle. People love to indulge their prejudices and hatred under the guise of a (in their eyes) valid reason.

Tobacco · 25/11/2025 11:02

There's a huge amount of misogyny against female politicians. She's right.

There's a huge amount of misogyny against female politicians. She's right.

But, as someone said above, two things can be true at the same time:
There is misogyny in politics (not least within the Labour Party), and
RR is a terrible Chancellor and worthy of criticism
