To be put off bloke over gravy-gate?

Been seeing someone a while. Today we went out for a Sunday roast - the waitress brought across a jug of gravy and a dish of vegetables for the table as another waitress approached with our meals. He then reaches for the gravy jug and pours the entire lot on his dinner. I was a bit gobsmacked! I said “didn’t fancy sharing then??” And he acted all shocked before laughing and saying “sorry, I didn’t think” how on earth would you not consider that the other person might want some gravy too??

So I said I’ll have to ask for more gravy so he said “don’t do that, it’s embarrassing” so I said “I’m not eating a dry roast! I want gravy” so he gets a spoon and says he’ll put some of “his” on my plate.

This isn’t the first time he’s showed greed/selfishness over food - a few weeks ago we went to an event and he said he was going off to find the toilets - he then returns with a tray of cheesy chips saying how lovely they were! I said “if I’d known you were getting food I’d have come with you and got myself something” - who does that??

Gravy-Gate has really annoyed me though and tbh it’s put me off! It’s not “the gravy” it’s the principle and thoughtlessness of it.

Can I ask who paid for the food? I hope it wasn’t you! Also he’s tight fisted that’s why he keeps using the toilet excuse then coming back with food, it’s a sign of what’s to come in the future, do yourself a favour and get rid now xx

Lennonjingles · 23/11/2025 18:52

You must be dating my brother (joke), he selfishly pours all sauces, mint, apple and ketchup all over his dinner, my Dad was the same. Since mentioning, save some for us, he now waits till we’ve poured ours and he still pours the rest, or I put 2 lots out. It’s very annoying.

Achewyhamster · 23/11/2025 18:53

Not gravy but I once went on a date with a chap
We agreed to buy some chips after we'd had a drink
You can see where this is going-he shoved down as many chips as he could (to 'get his moneys worth' apparently) leaving me with the shitty bits at the bottom

Another chap-we'd been on 2/3 dates but never eaten together
We went to the seaside and on the seafront and he stopped at the burger joint
Didn't ask if I wanted anything, just got himself a massive burger, shovelled it in,chomping it down with 'nomnomnom' noises while trying to make eye contact with me
He even tried to get me to hold his coke while he shoved it into his mouth

Complete mystery to both why I didnt want to see them again!

TooBigForMyBoots · 23/11/2025 18:53

Cheeky, greedy gravy fucker!
YANBU.

cityanalyst678 · 23/11/2025 18:53

I am lucky. My husband always waits for me before he serves himself. I would be shocked if someone helped themselves to all the gravy. My friend dumped her partner because he always started to help himself to seconds before she had finished. In the end, it was just too much!

GumFossil · 23/11/2025 18:54

That would instantly put me off him.

PinkTonic · 23/11/2025 18:54

Very ill mannered to grab the jug first even if he did assume one each. I wouldn’t have gone out with him again after he only had enough money for one lot of chips though. Sounds like a pig and a deadbeat.

KierBeTripping · 23/11/2025 18:41

Just to confirm I did ask the waitress for more gravy! I said it was embarrassing to be spooning gravy from one plate to another. I swear the old couple on the table next to us were glancing over in horror

i admire your self restraint in not tipping it over his head and leaving.
You have binned him off, right?

PurpleNebula84 · 23/11/2025 18:55

WhyArePiratesCalledPiratessss · 23/11/2025 18:14

He's selfish and wouldn't let you ask for more cos "its embarrassing"?
Dick
Throw that one back.
Life is too short.

I'd have said and it's really embarrassing you took all the gravy without thinking of me... And I'd have made no bones about telling the waiter/waitress why I needed more gravy either!
Think OP definitely does need to throw this one back!

Bikergran · 23/11/2025 18:55

Rude, mannerless selfish twat, and possibly with some kind of eating disorder. If he isn't obese yet, he probably will be in the future. Dump and look for someone with basic good manners!

RoseInBloome7 · 23/11/2025 18:56

Yuk… get rid !!!

Namechangedfortheterfasaurs · 23/11/2025 18:56

Who are the gravy-hating, selfishness-tolerating lunatics who voted YABU?

OSTMusTisNT · 23/11/2025 18:56

He is a selfish, tight and inconsiderate arse. Get out now as this will be as good as he gets. It will only get worse.

edwinbear · 23/11/2025 18:56

He’s selfish, greedy and stingy. Sneaks off to buy food for him on the pretence of going to the toilet so he doesn’t have to offer to buy you any, helping himself to all the gravy. If he had any manners, he’d have offered you the gravy first. If he’s like this with food, can you imagine what he’d be like when it comes to more important things, he’s the type to insist on adding up the weekly shop and giving you a bill for your ‘share’. Doesn’t bode well OP.

Cursula · 23/11/2025 18:57

Couldn’t date someone with no manners. Please tell us you are going to stop dating him?

AirborneElephant · 23/11/2025 18:58

uck. Greed and stingyness is so unattractive. And then to try to tell you not to ask for more! Nope, you can do better.

susiedaisy1912 · 23/11/2025 18:58

That’s gross and greedy. Dump him.

SuperMix · 23/11/2025 18:58

Nah throw that one back

comedycentral · 23/11/2025 18:59

He's not the one for you

KierBeTripping · 23/11/2025 18:59

I am going to end it I think, I’m still annoyed and now I’m getting annoyed about other stuff he’s done - just can’t understand how someone can be so shamelessly selfish

he also eats all his popcorn before the film starts in the cinema too and that’s pissing me off thinking about it

Men who hog all the gravy.

AlexisP90 · 23/11/2025 18:59

Using g all the gravy, although thoughtless wouldnt bother me. Saying I couldnt go and ask for more though... absolute no!

I NEED 3 litres all over my roast. Noone would stand between me and my gravy.
I would have binned him on thr spot.

Get rid. Sounds selfish and a right dickhead

BakedAl · 23/11/2025 18:59

My dad did this when we went for a roast with him once. It was a massive jug and his plate was swimming. None left for my DH. My poor mother despairs of him sometimes.

sonjadog · 23/11/2025 19:00

Using all the gravy I could forgive, but that his solution was that you eat a dry and unappetising dinner is the deal-breaker. It shows just how little he cares for how you are.

Titasaducksarse · 23/11/2025 19:00

I bet his poor mum is one of those who always has the lesser portion, the bit that's slightly burnt so not as nice or who misses out on gravy whilst she's sorting everyone else out and no one thinks to save her some.. or better still have the fucking manners to wait until she's at the table.

Aaaarrrggghhh. Sorry peri rage is high today

And if he's not porky now he's going to end up a right fat lard in later life.
