What are your thoughts on Cynthia Erico’s and Ariana Grande’s behaviour?

Obviously this is just light hearted gossip. They’re doing no harm.

But I absolutely fascinated by Ariana’s and Cynthia’s odd behaviour during the press tour for Wicked. They seem extremely close with one another. But I hate to say it comes across very contrived.

Ariana looks and acts like a fragile doll these days. In stark contrast to her previous pop star persona. And Cynthia has seemingly decided to play the role of her protector. It’s all very strange.

They have both lost a lot of weight. But what on Earth has happened to these two during filming?

This thread won’t be for everyone. But some of like to discuss the psychological aspects of behaviour. It’s obviously pure speculation

Fair enough! I don't know much about Cynthia Evro at all tbh.

So you accuse her of queer baiting without even knowing her sexuality?

I never said anyone was being nasty.

So what’s the issue?

I don’t think you understand what ‘censor’ means.

I have no interest in Wicked apart from once seeing the stage version which I have now thankfully erased from my mind. However a friend at work said Cynthia and Ariana were doing the press conferences and interviews ‘in character’. Could that be a reason for their apparently odd behaviour?

This is what I assumed, that it’s a contrived in-character promotional campaign driven to appeal to the age of the target audience because of an idea that adolescent girls and young women will identify with the characters more than they will two women in their thirties / forties speaking and presenting as themselves. Haven’t heard it confirmed either way, but also haven’t been taking an interest in the whole shebang.

multiple posters have called for this discussion to be suppressed. God only knows why.

No, she said ‘leave her alone’. How is that censorship or suppression? Has she had your posts deleted? No.

Are you gay? If not, trying growing up barely seeing anyone like you on the TV, and when it is hinted at, it never happening, because they won't dare go through with it for fear of upsetting an audience 🫠

Regardless of Cynthia's sexuality, it still feels like queer baiting. Because they're not actually in a relationship. It's quite obviously put on because fans like it, ship, and want to see them touching (see also: skin shipping in K-pop)

If that’s a representation of the movie characters, I think I’ll give it a miss too.

I’m merely discussing her and her behaviour. How would you like me to leave her alone? Obviously the implication is to not discuss her.

Ariana in particular looks unwell.

I'm not sure about their relationship. I'm a lesbian, and my main issue with it, is that it feels a bit like queer baiting. For those who don't know, that's a term to describe a lot of hinting at an LGBT+ relationship to appeal to a queer audience and generate fans (a lot of people really ship these two), without actually being LGBT 🤷

Edit: I also think people need to remember Ariana Grande has faced a significant trauma that most people will thankfully never ever experience. She is also in a unique position, in that people came to see her at Manchester and she brought everyone together in that arena. Even other survivors of Manchester can't relate to her experience in that way. There will probably always be times she's unwell, as she likely has significant PTSD.

Cynthia Erivo is a lesbian? She's in a relationship with Lena Waithe

This thread is gross.

Needmorelego · 22/11/2025 12:21

I should imagine Ariana Grande has a lot of trauma from a terrorist attack happening at one of her concerts.
Leave the woman alone.

Not just this, her ex boyfriend (fiancé?) who I think she probably still had a lot of feelings for from the way she talks about him, died very young from an overdose. She was also a child star in a highly toxic environments per Jenette McCurdy. All of this while being in the public eye. That would test anyone’s resilience. I hope she’s in a lot of therapy.

NotThatWay · 22/11/2025 12:37

Disclaimer: I am white.

I wonder if there's a racist element to all this. The "fierce, strong black woman" trope, combined with Ariana's perceived white weakness.

I wonder if people would be talking about this so much if Cynthia were also white, or if they were both black.

You’re allowed to discuss her, she’s allowed to say leave her alone. That’s not censorship.

What you want is to not be challenged.

I don't think there's a racism element to it.

But I think there is a huge sexism element to it not being discussed more broadly. It's not normal behaviour from two adults in their early to late thirties.

If Cynthia was a man acting this way to a female costar, people would be far more out-spoken about how uncomfortable it is to watch - even with the smaller age gap between them than most people realise.

I have to agree, based on this thread and yesterday’s thread which refused to even name Cynthia and kept calling her ‘this woman’.

Leave the woman alone.

And yet here she is being paraded to the world in order to promote the latest film. She’s being exploited massively - shame on those around her who clearly don’t have her best interest at heart.

Westfacing · 22/11/2025 12:40

My thoughts on their behaviour?

It's all contrived and choreographed for maximum impact - these two professionals are promoting their latest movie and they, and the industry behind them, know exactly they're doing!

It's all part of the show.

Inappropriate gossip about two people I expect no one on this thread has actually met in real life.

Cynthia is in a lesbian relationship, I believe?

It’s not the first time Ariana has been accused of appropriating another culture…

Well yeah, but only by Americans who don’t understand that Italians exist

I don’t think it’s that deep

Celebrities loose and gain weight all the time for projects, they have all probably been working like mad to get themselves red carpet ready.

Ariana has openly come out as suffering from ptsd, after what happened in Manchester she has every right to feel vulnerable and I can see why anyone who care about her would be protective. We have no idea what her friends know about the lasting effects on her.

They are both arty women, their behaviours don’t always conform to societal norms in the artistic world. Add that they are very clearly tactile people I honestly don’t see their interactions as anything strange. In fact it’s actually nice to see two leading women standing by each other rather then compete for attention or put on a fake bff performance.

Imisscoffee2021 · 22/11/2025 12:44

I've noticed this becoming a trend and I'm not sure why... press tours where the stars are dressed on theme, gushing and almost indoctrination the way they walk of the films they're in. Same with frankenstein recently, almost like they're talking of a religious movement or church in their devotion!

Ariana Grande has absorbed a different demeanour since being in Wicked, and I think it's the theatre kid type of persona. Cynthia Erivo has something of a protector and ally personality type, so that plays up to it all in the press tours.

CatamaranViper · 22/11/2025 12:44

They seem like Pro-ana sisters to me.
I had a someone like this in my life back when I was at the depth of my ED. It was like if we both do stuff, it's less noticeable, if we both lose weight, it's less noticeabe etc.
I'm from a musical theatre background too and the majority of people I've known who've been semi successful were the incredibly intense people. I think they've found kindred spirits in each other but it's dangerous

She'll have signed up for it. When you take on a film role these days, your contract stipulates how much marketing you have to do for it.
