Who are people who find Christmas offensive

Blopi · 22/11/2025 06:43

It really boils my piss when organisations curtail Christmas stuff as it may offend people.

Who are these people who find Christmas offensive? In my life I have worked and met people from various religions, cultures and countries. NOT one found Christmas and things that go with it. I didn’t work with Jehovah Witnesses but they don’t get offended. Most said they decorated their homes, wore Xmas jumpers and ate food which was suitable or tailored to their religion. Those who didn’t decorate their homes love seeing trees lit up.

I'm actually rolling my eyes to the back of my head, at the pure denial of councils and the like, stopping people using the word Christmas, and schools not allowing nativity plays. Why are some posters trying to gaslight people into believing it has never happened?

Calling people racist for spreading this 'MYTH.' It's not a myth actually, as it does happen/has happened, plenty of times, especially over the past 2 decades... How the fuck is anyone racist for saying they don't want Christmas diminished, and the word replaced by something else? Confused The people saying this must have needed a 700 foot high stepladder to reach that far!

I've got better things to do than search through Google to PROVE what is clearly bloody true, but seeing as the people denying what the OP says sometimes happens is a lie.... Well, I'm not prepared to let that go without a fight.

Some stories are older, some are newer. but it has absolutely happened in previous years, and still happens now. People/organisations/councils/Universities and so on trying to change Christmas to ... well any fucking thing except CHRISTMAS! And Nativity plays to anything but Nativity plays!

Stop trying to deny it happens. (And has been happening on and off for a couple of decades!) I'm cringing at the denial, from some posters! I wouldn't normally waste my time looking for 'proof' but I'm not having people trying to con me, and the OP, and many others on here into believing what the OP is talking about is a lie, and it has NEVER happened.

The Nativity play being cancelled (and something random being put in its place) happened 20-25 years ago when my kids and nieces and nephews were at school, and it's happened at a number at schools over the past 20 years too. I have heard other people with children younger than mine talking about it!

CBA to post on this thread anymore, as the denial on here (of something that has happened for years!) is utterly batshit. Mumsnet is a parallel universe sometimes. 🙄

So here's a few links, seeing as you CBA to look yourselves... Enjoy. 😎 There are many more articles like this, but I know some of you won't want to look. Probably won't even look at these links actually, as it may prove you are GASP! WRONG!

I've read the first five and also looked into the original documentation, which is something you clearly haven't done.
Brighton University says the Word Christmas is not banned in campus. The advice the article refers to has been written with students and is advisory. You might as well argue that a School allowing a child with a dead Mother to make a card for their grandmother on Mother's Day has banned Mother's Day.
There is no evidence as to why Schools are dropping nativity style plays, it is the author's assumption it is to do with other religions. (Often it is to support the reading of certain books etc.)
The markets are not just for the Christmas period as explained in this thread earlier.
The article about cards says of those that send cards Councils ARE sending Christmas cards, some mentioning Jesus. Some use the Victorian standard "Seasons Greetings"

One of the other articles does not consider a Council Christmas card to be a Christmas card unless it "references the birth of Christ". I hope that is what you and yours are sending this year.

I haven't looked at the rest. I figured why should I do more reading than you have?

If you read my op there are organisations that don’t do Christmas as they think they are offending others.

My friend’s late husband was Muslim and they do pigs in blankets - they call them chicks in blankets. Chicken sausages with turkey rashers.

Muslims and Jews don’t eat pigs. It hardly equates to being offended.

My neighbouring council (Labour, left wing) have been terrified of the word Xmas for years, in case someone is offended. Any hint of Xmas decor or celebration sends them into a tizzy.

No one has ever found the offended people, but they still carry on. 🙄

Residents just generally ignore them.

I'm offended by the word "Xmas". Makes me cringe. Don't know why. I have no problems with "Christmas" (either Merry or Happy), "Advent", "Winter", "Season".

I believe "Xmas" is actually a very ancient contraction. The "X" being a cross which is apparently a thing for christians. Who knew ?

I am far more offended than I should be that the Santa of my youth - who wore a sort of long gown - has been replaced with some guy in trousers.Although I await to be told that this is also much older than I would have thought.

You have to admire the dedication of someone who has trawled the Internet to find articles almost 20 years old. Although if they had read them all, beyond the headline, they might have realised that not all support the argument they are trying to make.

Let's hope there were no leftie wokey snowflake leftsters in the vicinity taking a break from pandering. I've heard they report you for that to The Left Wing Council and they make you give up your house to migrants. This actually happened to my cousins neighbours hairdressers nephew and they actually banned him from being white. THIS IS TRUE.

WombatChocolate · 22/11/2025 18:42

I volunteer with a charity. They were making a poster about Christmas opening times and discussed using the word festive instead of Christmas, to avoid offending people. And then there was a short discussion about if it was offensive.
I think people fear causing offence, but actually very few are offended by the word ‘Christmas’ or Christmas activities. Christmas is cultural not religious for most people.

And actually people of other religions are least likely to be offended…..religious people understand that people of other religions carry out religious activities. They might not be the same activities as them, but they u derstand religious people do religious activities.

Often the people who worry about causing offence are not religious people and do t realise that peooke of other religions are unlikely to be offended. Perhaps people of no religion might be offended…but most won’t be.

And people are very keen to be inclusive and celebrate or acknowledge other festivals connected to other religions…but possibly fear Christmas and Easter are less acceptable. It’s quite muddled thinking and probably something most people haven’t fully thought through but know they want to avoid offence….to people who aren’t Christian.
