Who are people who find Christmas offensive

Blopi · 22/11/2025 06:43

It really boils my piss when organisations curtail Christmas stuff as it may offend people.

Who are these people who find Christmas offensive? In my life I have worked and met people from various religions, cultures and countries. NOT one found Christmas and things that go with it. I didn’t work with Jehovah Witnesses but they don’t get offended. Most said they decorated their homes, wore Xmas jumpers and ate food which was suitable or tailored to their religion. Those who didn’t decorate their homes love seeing trees lit up.

@GuyForksAndKnives

I've seen Halloween advent calendars. They're clearly a countdown to an event. I've not yet seen an Easter one but it wouldn't surprise me if chocolate companies didn't create one stuffed with mini eggs.

Isn't that Lent?

If Lent was rebranded from a time of sacrifice into a time of 40 mini eggs, sign me up, I’m in. Where’s that marketing maven who posted previously? Get them on it!

Blindbobisagreatcat · 22/11/2025 12:30

84 of them to be exact. I counted. All sold as.... Christmas Trees!

Do you also hate “Seasons Greetings”? That’s been around a while.

I was going to say this. This was on Christmas cards when I was a child in the 60s.

Ginmonkeyagain · 22/11/2025 11:55

I am digging around for my scant church knowledge here, but isn't advent meant to be a sombre, reflective period in Christianity?

No-that’s Lent.

MurdoMunro · 22/11/2025 12:48

Maybe these folk need to hijack another festival and have a month to let rip with traditions like going round after dark yelling at street lamps, eating Proper English Egg and Chips with glitter on and giving presents like black nylon socks while declaring ‘it was good enough in my day ya snowflake’.

Not many people do much with Imbolc in England and the weather’s still pretty gloomy then too.

I think the woke community is offended on behalf of others-thus we have Tesco selling Evergreen trees, Sainsbury's and Tony Chocoloni (sp) selling Countdown calendars and Greggs selling Festive Bakes.

These things used to have Christmas in their description.

There are many other examples and it won't take you long to look.

So, some big businesses clearly do think some will be offended by the word, Christmas: whether this is due to their own research or them simply being woke twats is not known but I suppose the answer to that is discoverable too.

To take just one of your examples - Sainsbury’s have their own (plus loads of other) advent calendars.
And if a company is using an alternative word why assume it’s because they think someone will be offended? That’s the bit I don’t get. What if they just want to make their product attractive to a wiser group of people? The only offended ones around seem to be those making up the banning of the word Christmas to offend themselves.

I think our government think an idea up then try to run with it to cause mayhem. Although I do hear of a local school not making Christmas biscuit this year in H.E they made winter biscuit instead lol as to not offend any religions. Sometimes I wonder if we all try to pussyfoot around everyone else too much. Christmas should be celebrated freely to whomever wishes to celebrate it, in what every way they chooose. Those that may get offended should just think of it as a celebration they don’t participate in and move on rather than cause a racket. Plenty of things could ‘0ffened’ me but the world doesn’t revolve around me so I let people have their moments and I get on with my own life.

Where did you hear about this? I am only asking because there is a lot of made up nonsense posted on FB, Next Door, X and the like.

Livelovebehappy · 22/11/2025 09:08

I think some Councils do try to amend wording around Christmas, and have actually admitted they do it for reasons of inclusivity. It’s a shame because many Muslims and other faiths do actually enjoy Christmas celebrations, and take part. I just feel others make decisions for them because they think they feel excluded, when mostly that’s not the case at all.

But do they change the events? Rather than having a winter/holiday element to the naming?
Because just changing the name doesn’t stop anyone enjoying the celebrations.

‘Muslim mayor stamping his culture on the capital’, get outta here ya bampot, away for your egg and chips

You think the government made an unnamed School make a Winter biscuit in November?

Yes, Khan has made certain to erase any mention of Christmas from Oxford Street. There's not even a mention of the C word on the Oxford Street website. It is a disgrace.

I feel a proper Lenten Advent Calendar would involve various non treats / small sufferings. A sachet of fish oil, or stale bread crumbs, or kale; perhaps a small demand for charitable giving. Maybe a guilt evoking picture of a lamb called Mint Sauce and a recipe for a vegetarian Sunday Roast. Like church in a cardboard chapel.

dogsandbudgey · 22/11/2025 13:11

Yes I don’t mind if all religions are treated equal in how they are celebrated but I do feel in some ways the higher powers are minimising Christian beliefs but they absolutely would not dare attempt to minimise others.

And some people create mayhem by saying things that they don't care are true or not.🙄

Mysteriously @CurlewKate. That’s what I learned at Sunday School, higher powers do things mysteriously.

What has it got to do with the government?

CandlesAndClementines · 22/11/2025 13:14

To me Christmas is a Hodge Podge of ancient pagan rituals to get ancient people's through the darkest times. Lights again to get people through the dark !
Then the Christians took it over to seamlessly blend with local folk as many other religions have with their festivals.

The Christian addition has given us the wonderful Nativity story and on top of that we have Santa .

I've not spoken to many people of different religions about it but the ones I have maybe 5 /6 have been adamant it's soley a religious festival and it's against their religion to take part in any part of it.
They won't have it that it's all sorts mixed in and you can take your pick . I guess becsuee they view everything through one lens they can't see the difference ?
