Can’t really tell anyone irl.
we live in a small house and could probably go get another one and get a bigger house but quite happy here and will be great to have the extra money each month !

Congratulations! After we paid ours off we kept going back and looking on the bank app to look at the zero figure and it was such a great feeling

That's amazing! Well done. How many years did you have the mortgage for?

Congratulations! I bet that’s a lovely feeling . We’re hoping to pay ours off next year . My work colleague who’s in her early 60s told me she paid hers off and that she told her friends and family and not one of them said anything positive . She was shocked she got a wall of hostility . So I understand why people keep it to themselves now .

StripedPillowcase · 21/11/2025 20:20

Congratulations! I had the same last year, didn't feel like I could tell most of my friends and colleagues.

GlomOfNit · 21/11/2025 20:22

Perhaps there needs to be a special class of celebration card in card shops - Congratulations on Becoming Mortgage-Free! Grin

Congrats and well done, OP. I wish we could say the same, but after years of paying a relatively fairly small sum monthly (after DH and I put our respective houses together to buy one) and with the end in sight, we have fecked ourselves by having to extend the mortgage to sort out the roof. 😥

ProfessorScorchedTerf · 21/11/2025 20:23

Congratulations

nannyl · 21/11/2025 20:28

Wahoo
Can't wait to make our final payment in March, when our fixed rate ends.

Yes it's exciting and not really something that you can chit chat about and share with most people

ThirdStorm · 21/11/2025 20:29

Congratulations! 🥂

SunnySideDeepDown · 21/11/2025 20:31

Congrats!

TamarindCottage · 21/11/2025 20:42

Brilliant! Well done paying off your millstone 👏

I remember the day I paid mine off: 13 August 2013. Who said 13 is an unlucky number?

Celebrate with a bottle of what you fancy 🍾🥂🍾

InterestedDad37 · 21/11/2025 20:44

Congrats 😀🎊🎉🎈🏡
It's a brilliant feeling 😊

Brendathebear · 21/11/2025 20:45

it was a 35 year mortgage? Paid it off ten years early by selling the business!
