Congratulations!

fabricstash · 21/11/2025 21:47

I will get there one day!! Congratulations 🥳

Wrenjay · 21/11/2025 21:47

You will never forget that feeling of being free from debt and will always (hopefully) have a roof over your head that is yours. We paid off our mortgage when my husband had a really good redundancy payout and a financial adviser said that was the best thing to do for us.

Congratulations. Hip hip Hooray debt free holidays coming your way.

zeddybrek · 21/11/2025 21:49

Congratulations! What an amazing achievement! Enjoy the freedom!

menopausalfart · 21/11/2025 21:57

I'm in a small cottage, but it's mine and here I'll stay. Congratulations!

Echobelly · 21/11/2025 22:07

Mazel tov - we paid ours a few years ago after inheritance from my grandfather and it was a nice feeling. I finally started paying proper money into my pension after that and the main difference is I can now afford to go to theatre/opera/concerts regularly and I don't have to dip into savings for costs of a few hundred. That said we're about to be plunged into it again next year when DC goes to university and if it's London that will cost almost as much a month as our mortgage did. But I have at least changed careers to something where I can step up to quite a lot more money if I have to and I might well do that at the end of the next year because I am enjoying where we're at now.

828Pax · 21/11/2025 22:09

Fantastic!! Huge congratulations x

Ireolu · 21/11/2025 22:10

Well done! Enjoy the freedoms this affords you :)
We still have 19 yrs to go. I was very excited though when it went under 400 and the first number became a 3.

coxesorangepippin · 21/11/2025 22:36

Amazing! Enjoy 😍

Lucinda7 · 21/11/2025 22:43

Congratulations OP. It's a great feeling knowing your house is paid for.

CathyBlowsBubbles · 21/11/2025 23:04

Congratulations! I’m more than a little envious!
I’m 55 and we still have 13 more years of paying £2480 a month. 😩 But it’s a good sized house in an expensive area so hopefully, it will eventually add to our pension pot!

CheeseyOnionPie · 21/11/2025 23:06

that must be such a great feeling, good on you!!!!

Purplebunnie · 21/11/2025 23:10

Congratulations

Paid ours off in May this year.- 42 years. It's a great feeling

2chocolateoranges · 21/11/2025 23:10

Amazing!

we have 6more months to pay ours and it’s finished too! Our mortgage is tiny though but will still be nice to have that money banked rather than paid out.

TwoeightTwoeightTwoOhhhh · 21/11/2025 23:11

OnTheBoardwalk · 21/11/2025 23:12

Congratulations! I love these types of threads

good on you for all your hard work to pay it off early

im 4 years away from hopefully my own thread like this. I do get and understand why we can’t tell other people this sort of news but it is a bit sad

enjoy this feeling

JarvisIsland · 21/11/2025 23:15

Paid mine off at 35 due to a sadly unexpected inheritance. Do not get me wrong I’d rather still have 12 years on the mortgage and still have my parents, neither of whom got to 70, but it is so freeing and has taken away a lot of money stress.

Most of my friends know about it and have been supportive, I guess because of the circumstances, so that is good, but you do have to be careful who you can really talk about life and options going forward with as I know a few of them are mortgaged to the eyeballs with young kids and we are now mortgage free DINKs.

One thing I didn’t expect through was it plummeted my credit score, as I also paid off the small balance (less than £2k) on my credit card so I don’t really have any. I’m not really after a load of credit, but I do wonder when it comes time to need credit again for whatever reason. Big positive is being able to save and invest what would have been the mortgage payments towards pension and investments, but those are discretionary so it gives freedom if you need a new boiler or something to just use that monthly payment or two towards that instead. Definitely a privileged position to be in.

Wellretired · 21/11/2025 23:26

Thats really great. Its the best feeling, and helps so much financially and stress wise. Enjoy.

Tagyoureit · 22/11/2025 13:08

We are about 4 months away! So looking forward to it!!

Bonsatater · 22/11/2025 18:03

Sbmpp · 22/11/2025 18:09

user836367392 · 22/11/2025 18:14

I have had my mortgage for 39 years, paying it off next year. Includes years on benefits and divorce 😁

Rhubarb24 · 22/11/2025 18:14

CMOTDibbler · 21/11/2025 20:02

Congratulations! After we paid ours off we kept going back and looking on the bank app to look at the zero figure and it was such a great feeling

Same! 😂 but part of it was habit as I checked it all the time, and I just wanted to see if the account was still there!

HellonHeels · 22/11/2025 18:20

Congratulations! How wonderful! I've got a few years to go - partner and I were very late starters.

Enjoy your financial freedom Flowers

caringcarer · 22/11/2025 18:26

Congratulations. When we paid off ours we thought about how some of the months, especially early on we had really struggled to pay every month, and felt a hug amount of relief. We also started to build a rainy day fund that we had not really been able to pay much into before. Go for a nice meal out and celebrate properly. It usually only happens once.
