Can’t really tell anyone irl.
we live in a small house and could probably go get another one and get a bigger house but quite happy here and will be great to have the extra money each month !

Ahh the dream. You are living it! Living the mortgage free dream! Congrats😍

Pelsall116 · 22/11/2025 18:45

well done; lovely feeling isn't it?

Mary46 · 22/11/2025 18:47

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 22/11/2025 18:49

YANBU. Congratulations! I did the same thing in February and I've not been able to tell anyone in real life, either. Enjoy your new found mortgage-free life!

TheChosenTwo · 22/11/2025 18:51

Congratulations Op! I can only imagine this feeling 🥳
just putting our second dc through uni (ouch 😭) and have 7 years still to go on the mortgage - I will be 48 and those 7 years can’t pass soon enough.
Sil and her dh paid theirs off last year, we were so happy for them - why wouldn’t we be? It’s a great milestone to reach.

Chinsupmeloves · 22/11/2025 19:10

Well done! We would've paid ours off by now but decided to go bigger one last time, which I was in 2 minds about. If only DH could have been content in our lovely smaller house rather than getting another mortgage. In our mid 50s, maybe not the best decision but got to comprise i guess. Enjoy the extra money, wise choice. Xx

ChesterDrawz · 22/11/2025 19:20

I suppose it's a difficult one to talk about with other people because they may be struggling with their mortgage and so be envious.

Some people will also probably (internally) question the wisdom of paying it off early if overpayments were at the expense of potentially making extra pension contributions which can be so much more valuable than the interest saved in a mortgage.

Congratulations anyway, OP, it's such a great feeling isn't it.

whatsnewpussycat34 · 22/11/2025 19:37

I can’t wait for this feeling. Only 20 years to go 😂

Papyrophile · 22/11/2025 20:23

The confidence that nothing and no one can interfere with the security you have by owning your home outright is IMO almost beyond price. It's yours to maintain or not, but it is purely your decision. Writing and signing the cheque that settled the debt on our house is one of my best memories.

WhatMyNameis · 22/11/2025 21:26

I'm sorry you can't tell anyone IRL, you ROCK, well done!! What an achievement!

I personally will be taking out a banner behind a small plane 🤣🤣🤣

moderndilemma · 22/11/2025 22:09

Isn't it a fantastic feeling!

We were about 11 months from paying off our mortage when we received a small inheritance. We put it into long term savings - we'd paid the bloody mortgage month after month after month for 40 years and we'd be damned if aunt judith got the credit!

11 months later, and all our years of hard work paid off. Our house was ours! We had done it. That was unimaginable in earlier years, at at times it felt impossible to sustain. But we did it. It was our own quiet celebration. Not a celebration of wealth but a celebration of fortitude during some difficult times.

@OP in case no one else has said, you now need to make sure that you get the actual deeds and have them lodged somewhere securely. Ours are with the solicitor who has our wills and POAs.

Oblomov25 · 22/11/2025 22:11

Well done. A nice feeling I bet. We are close, end of next year I think.

Bookloveruk · 22/11/2025 22:26

Well done. We were same this year after a long time. It’s a great feeling

All deeds are now stored electronically.

It is a great feeling. We'd been overpaying each month, but then I inherited from my aunt and we decided to clear it all. I asked the bank how to do it, as there was a daily limit for transfers, and I said I'd like to clear it all. They were surprised as it was a large amount, but then they looked at my current account balance. We have an unstable income with self employment, so now the amount we need to earn to live on is so low, it's nice to not feel stressed about the bills

Praying4Peace · 22/11/2025 23:40

Bloody brilliant op, I understand that feeling.
I paid off my 30 year mortgage off in the same year that I got rid of my overdraft!
Hip hip hooray

FourCatMama · 23/11/2025 00:39

Tippy Kai Yay!!!!!

Justacigarette · 23/11/2025 00:40

We have one payment left on 16/12. DH is almost beside himself with excitement and anticipation.

Dweetfidilove · 23/11/2025 00:42

That's a great achievement. Congratulations 🎊

RamblinRosie · 23/11/2025 01:13

Yay! Many congrats, I remember the great feeling.
Break open a bottle and enjoy for a month or two, then stuff the monthly money into a SSIP, I did that, didn’t notice as I’d always not had it, ten years later I’ve got a nice little pot!

hereforthecraic · 23/11/2025 01:15

It’s an amazing feeling xx

Flowersforyourchocolateprettyplease · 23/11/2025 09:00

Congratulations OP, great achievement and sorry you can't share with anyone irl.

When we clear ours, I think I'd tell my bff, sad that we can't share such news with all our lived ones.

Enjoy the freedom✨️🎉🎊 🎄.

coolcahuna · 23/11/2025 09:06

Well done! Make sure you get the deeds from land registry, think you can do it online and enjoy the extra freedom this brings!

Yamamm · 23/11/2025 09:07

We need a miserable bugger to come along and add some variety to this thread. It’s not me! Congratulations. Are you going to do one fun thing with the extra money next month? I’m planning to take the whole daily on a big holiday in year 1 before I get sensible.
