AIBU that this is the most ridiculous thing for a company to claim.

"Can a transgender woman have a period? Absolutely. Many trans and gender-diverse people menstruate. Whether you’re a woman, a man, non-binary or agender, your body may menstruate too."

Surely if you feel that you are non binary and yet your body menstruates/ does not menstruate ( because you are in fact a man) that somewhat blows the whole non binary shite every 4th week of the month.

Please kindly stop bringing logic and biology into the discussion. It only confuses what is actually a very straightforward discussion. If a man says he gets a period and needs period pants then we should all have the common decency to believe him.

You are correct. I apologise 😀

SpaceRaccoon · 21/11/2025 14:30

It's transwomen not trans women - they're not a sub-category of women.

I read somewhere that I’m hoping is false news designed to case rage and divide. That they are demanding free period products for the trans community. We don’t get them for free or buy them for fun so hoping it’s not true but you never know.

Hollyhobbi · 21/11/2025 14:34

charcoalandsugar · 21/11/2025 12:48

No it doesn’t it clearly states that it’s the hormones that can cause periods.

In a woman obviously😭. Or do men have an actual real vagina?

Daysgo · 21/11/2025 14:34

Lunacy. How can a man menstruate??

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 21/11/2025 14:36

Grim.

BillieWiper · 21/11/2025 14:42

That's absolutely ridiculous.
I mean it's just not possible is it? Unless someone puts fake blood on a sanitary towel for a week every month as some kind of performance?! Why would you pretend to have periods?!

I get them saying transmen might have them. As they have women's internal organs, but why say it about trans women?!

HermioneWeasley · 21/11/2025 13:45

Words are actual violence
stating facts is violence

calling for women to be punched in the face and doing it is not violence

Are you being sarcastic? 🤔
Or are you drunk?
I'm so confused. This makes zero sense 😒

TitsInAbsentia · 21/11/2025 14:42

"Having a period feels totally normal and fine for many trans women. Some even find it deeply cathartic and validating."

Well blow me sideways...in all my 43 years of periods never once has one felt cathartic 😂

BlaBlaWhatever · 21/11/2025 14:43

charcoalandsugar · 21/11/2025 12:48

No it doesn’t it clearly states that it’s the hormones that can cause periods.

So their version of what a period is doesn't necessarily include blood.... if once a month you feel uncomfortable because of your hormones, that is what constitutes a period for them.
So as far as they are concerned a period is different from menstruation which involves losing blood and gore from one's uterus:
menstruation
/ˌmɛn(t)strʊˈeɪʃn/, noun

"the process of discharging blood and other material from the lining of the uterus"

Although how wearing period pants is going to help anyone who is not losing blood from their uterus to feel better rather escapes me. Maybe the idea is to make certain individuals feel better while encouraging them to spend money on the company's products.
Reminds me of the old joke about the bloke who went to the chemist's to buy tampons in the belief that they would enable him to do parachute jumps, swimming and trampolining.

How do they think the ones that do get them, I wonder?

In a jar of formaldehyde?
(Just given myself the creeps!)

Mustreadabook · 21/11/2025 14:46

I think what they might be saying is that if HRT is given in a monthly cycle with a gap once a month, (like the pill), that would mean hormone levels change once a month and give some of the symptoms such as bloating etc that a woman getting her period may get. (Why would you purposely have a gap that causes nasty symptoms??). This may be true, but why it would involve needing period pants I do not know! I think the rest of it they might be getting their definitions and words all muddled!

5128gap · 21/11/2025 14:47

toottoot3 · 21/11/2025 14:11

Going by that logic it must be hard for you to buy anything, what large brand companies do and lie about it pretty obvious from food to fashion. How do you navigate that?

When red bull tells me I will grow wings, it doesn't twist language and introduce some pseudo medical rhetoric to further the pretence that some consumers actually do get to fly.
If I were told in the grave and supportive tones of an expert in human flight that my shoulder blades were in fact wing buds, and that if I were concerned about any aspect of their development to actual wings, to consult my GP, then I'd probably think they were in breech of some form of advertising standards.

Sunshineismyfavourite · 21/11/2025 14:48

How on earth you can compare and find connections in feeling shit because of the drugs and hormones you are pumping into your body as a trans woman and an actual woman experiencing menstruation? It is 100% not the same and is not a period. I absolutely despair.

Helleofabore · 21/11/2025 14:49

"some do pretend they have terrible period cramps."

If I remember correctly, I think we had a male poster once tell us on the FWR board that they had period cramps and PMT. He didn't like being told that he needed to watch his fibre intake and that if cycling artificial levels of hormones that are not meant for his body's sex was causing him any type of distress, that he really should evaluate his artificial hormone usage.

The issue is that there are Endocrinologists and other clinicians telling these male people that they are experiencing 'periods'.

It is the same with the surgeons and other clinicians that also imply or directly tell a group of male people that they have a 'vagina' now. When what they actually have is a cavity inserted into their groin. It is not a vagina at all. A vagina has functions beyond being a 'hole' or as it is sometimes called a 'bonus hole'.

Some years ago I came across a discussion on one transgender discussion group where men were saying they retrieved used sanpro and used it themselves. Presumably they put the tampons up their bums. There are few limits to what fetishists will do.

Oh God, I must figure out how to wean myself off the Internet. This is too much 😳.

How to support trans women during their period

a) they don't get them, and b) why the hell would I want to support them through it if they did? Honestly, anyone choosing to get periods when they don't have to is a brick short of a full load.

Being a good ally to trans women during their period means being respectful, understanding and supportive. Here are some keyways to be there for them:

  • Be kind towards the trans women in your life, and acknowledge their experience as women. Respect their names, pronouns and bodies.

It just gets worse. Now I have to acknowledge their experience "as women"?

roseyposey · 21/11/2025 13:25

Is this our current deputy Prime Minister?

Yes. What an idiot.

Just to make things even grimmer than Modibodi already have, some trans identifying men (ie males) have a bit of a kink about having periods. I'm not going to link, it's too revolting, but maybe it's these fetishists they're aiming at?

TheKeatingFive · 21/11/2025 14:58

It's all very well the Mumsnet demographic calling out this absolute horseshit for what it is.

The worrying thing is that there are young girls out there being gaslit to believe that it's their duty to affirm and 'be an ally' to fetishistic men. 🤬

catontheironingboard · 21/11/2025 15:01

Most trans women don’t “cycle” hormones at all, they just take a consistent dose of oestrogen all the time. How this is meant to produce “cycles” they never explain. Since it’s not oestrogen that causes cramping in PMS anyway (see my post above about the menstrual cycle and prostaglandins), how on earth oestrogen would give them monthly cramping anyway is never accounted for. It’s likely just made-up attention seeking, or, at a push, psychosomatic.
