What the heck! Trans women get periods apparently

AIBU that this is the most ridiculous thing for a company to claim.

"Can a transgender woman have a period? Absolutely. Many trans and gender-diverse people menstruate. Whether you’re a woman, a man, non-binary or agender, your body may menstruate too."

Maybe the company should be reported to the Advertising Standards Board

BunnyLake · 21/11/2025 16:17

I hope they do, cramps, clots and all. Enjoy.

Does it matter? Trans people are an extremely vulnerable minority that is persecuted on all fronts every day. Just let it go.

Then why make it worse? Sympathy and support for the trans community will for sure erode steadily when ridiculous stuff like this emerges?

I've seen this claim that trans women have a monthly hormone cycle before. But is it actually true? Why wouldn't a doctor give a consistent daily dose? What benefit would come of varying it over the month? Just having female hormones doesn't make it a cycle. I no longer have a period or any other discernable monthly cycle since having a Mirena (and glorious it is too!) - clearly I still have female hormones but they are steady through the month.

I read an interview by, I believe, one of the first endocrinologists to do this. They said that their male patients were distressed that they lacked ‘periods’ so felt they were never going to be women.

The endocrinologists admit there is absolutely no medical reason to cycle the hormones. It is pure validation.

Very good point. False claims and all that.

So that’s what was giving me gyp just now while I was hoovering - my prostate! I will tell dh that’s why I’m putting my feet up for a bit. 🙂.

Careful, expect a donut cushion for Christmas. Anything you mention this close could be given real consideration

Yes it matters.

It matters because this company is absolutely peddling lies. Transwomen don't have periods and therefore don't need period products.

It matters because the people that actually need these products (you know, women) are fed up of being asked to shove over and 'affirm' the delusions of men.

user836367392 · 21/11/2025 16:23

I've just sent them a message thru their chat telling them they are ridiculous. I suggest everyone does

Can I ask you contact Modibodi and call them out on their lying? They have a contact form.

This is blatant lying.

What are they thinking! Well they weren't thinking. Biological Men whom call themselves trans women, never have uteruses and don't have periods.

“Many trans women have periods. Some trans women don’t have uteruses, so they won’t bleed as part of a monthly menstrual cycle. But the hormonal experience of menstruation can still be very real.”

Modibodi thinks some Trans women have uteruses?

CurbsideProphet · 21/11/2025 16:27

It's very Gileadian, the suggestion that we should go along with groupthink, even when we know it's bizarre and just wrong.

TransSister · 21/11/2025 16:29

Our middle-aged, live action role playing brother, currently claiming to be a trans woman needs proper help. Companies like this do not help.
He has gone from bored, to frustrated that being a selfish idiot hasn't worn him happiness, to porn addicted, gender expressive and finally fully blown living the period dream.
He needs proper help for depression, addiction and strategies for managing stress. He does not need further rabbit holes to disappear down looking for kicks.

Thank you for the company name and the helpful PP who meant I didn't add clicks.
Boycotting this one along with Snag, and yes, I am the major purchasing department for work and my daughters.

Helleofabore · 21/11/2025 16:29

I mean, where is the harm in educating female children that male people are just like them and can have periods too?

Where is the harm in educating female children that their unique body functions are not unique at all. And that male people experience them too! And any male person who then tells those female children that they experience debilitating periods as well so there is nothing to worry about - those male people
are not doing any fucking harm at all!!

Nothing like educating our girls that their menstrual issues are experienced by all the population who want to claim them, including male people who produce videos of their horrendous experiences of ‘periods’, so that those girls don’t have either accurate information about menstruation or don’t have the awareness that intensely painful periods should potentially be discussed with a doctor.

The fact that some posters think this group of male people should ‘be left alone’ shows just how little they care about women and girls.

There are so many reasons why normalising male people having ‘periods’ is harmful to female people. But I guess if you centre male people in your life over female people it comes naturally.

LetitiaCropleysRecipeBook · 21/11/2025 16:31

Well, I suppose it could happen, if a trans man wished to identify as a woman? Wouldn’t they then become a trans woman (as well as being an actual woman)? There’s some complicated shit around - a friend has a trans daughter (born male) who is in a relationship with a trans man (born female). They were also in a relationship before the trans man transitioned. I cannot get my head round it.

elliejjtiny · 21/11/2025 16:31

I am on my period at the moment. I am wearing period pants so i don't leak blood everywhere. I don't wear them to feel empowered, life affirming or whatever. I would happily give my periods to a trans woman. Although after a week of pain, flooding and anaemia i think they will want to give me my periods back!

Ihatetomatoes · 21/11/2025 16:32

surprisebaby12 · 21/11/2025 15:47

Does it matter? Trans people are an extremely vulnerable minority that is persecuted on all fronts every day. Just let it go.

It matters. Biological facts matter. Real biological women matter too. Children need to be taught biological facts. It matters.

Men and their fetishes aren't more important that women and girls.

Linzloopy · 21/11/2025 16:35

Utterly ridiculous. They say on their website "some trans women don’t have uteruses" - which implies, completely falsely, that some do!

I see what they’ve tried to do, but they’ve done it wrong.

trans women cannot menstruate, menstruation is literally the process of blood and tissue thickening then shedding from the uterus, something which trans women do not have.

they can however get PMS. Trigger by the synthetic hormones they take.

They may get side effects from the hormones they take. But calling it PMS is utter pandering when there's no menstruation. And there's never going to be any menstruation. Because males cannot menstruate.

So let's just call it for what it is...the side effects of 'feminising' hormones when taken by biological males.

EdinaTheConfessor · 21/11/2025 16:41

Ah they are just trying to flog their period underwear to a wider audience. The article says trans women don’t bleed, but they can wear period underwear to “affirm” their identity. It’s just marketing. Nonsense, but marketing.

edited to add that it will likely have the opposite effect when women boycott in droves.

Lalgarh · 21/11/2025 16:42

Boomer55 · 21/11/2025 15:34

Of course they do. Biological men are known for having periods. 🙄🤷‍♀️

Said no one ever.

There's that Ben Elton routine where he scene sets a chap about to stroll onto a cricket pitch when Mr Blobby comes to visit. It's the same one where he likens the coil to barbed wire.

Ofc nowadays Elt is a premier Ally and couldn't bring himself to be anything other than affirmative about Jordan Grey getting his todger out on the brief Saturday night live comeback. Who says women can't do it all

The BBC report thread notes they covered this. Report from NHS Sussex University hospital trust (covers Brighton?) that TW breast milk was every bit as healthy as female breast milk.

internationalbreastfeedinginstitute.com/2024/02/trans-womens-milk-as-good-as-breast-milk-says-nhs-trust/

On the programme they actually let the gender studies woman imply it was better.
