To warn you about amazon selling fake products?

Not a 3rd party, not amazon marketplace but Amazon directly.

I always assumed buying from Amazon was safe, have used them for years as long as you don't use 3rd party sellers.

I bought a kettle from 'The Ninja Shop' on amazon. The photos are stainless steel. The description says stainless steel and a plastic kettle arrived.

All the reviews have this same plastic kettle. Some complaints about it.

I contacted Ninja who confirmed that the kettle is an amazon exclusive but should be stainless steel and confirmed they do NOT sell plastic kettles.

So amazon themselves are selling this 'exclusive ' kettle that is not made by ninja.

They could be from anywhere and be a huge fire risk!

I will not be buying any Ninja or electrical items from Amazon again as you have no idea what you may be getting!

(Yes btw i do already have a thread about this kettle but that thread was about the discrepancy in the item recieved, I am starting this thread based on communication from Ninja confirming the kettle is not theirs)

If I was Ninja I'd be so pissed off that Amazon are damaging my brand name in this way. Sure they'd have a legal case.

Amazon is so shit now. Half the stuff seems to be coming from Chinese companies with nonsensical names and are actually more expensive than if you find a genuine UK seller. It's enshitification!

Zucker · 21/11/2025 12:25

Amazon, these days, seems to be a middle man between shien/temu/aliexpress/alibaba and the consumer. It's really there for people who won't buy directly from China!

NinjaWhat · 21/11/2025 12:27

Ninja don't seem to care at all!

I’m shocked that Ninja don’t care!

blobby10 · 21/11/2025 12:30

@NinjaWhat are you sure that message is from Ninja? They can't spell 'unable'! Grin

helpsent · 21/11/2025 12:30

I’d suggest making a comment to them on X. Sometimes that can be a kick up the arse and get a better response.

Ninja do sell a white plastic kettle.

Are you sure it's fake and not just the wrong colour?

surreygirly · 21/11/2025 12:32

I contacted Hills pet food about thjeir hydrolysed food which our cat has to have to prevent what is in effect IBS
I had seen it on Amazon
At the end of the conversation the vet said she would send a list of suppliers as they had a small number of approved distributers
I said I had seen it on Amazon
She said do NOT buy from amazon as it is fake and will make our cat extremely ill and require vetinary intervention

LittleGreenDragons · 21/11/2025 12:32

I do the same as you OP, just so I can avoid fakes as much as I can. I can't believe Ninja don't care about it 😮

AlexandraJJ · 21/11/2025 12:33

Were the photos in the Amazon listing correct? I wonder if someone had bought one, a genuine one and returned a copy to get their money back, essentially getting the original for free and then it’s gone back on the shelf and shipped to you? What was the packaging like you received? Was there a photo of the official product on it that differed to what was inside?

All the photos of the kettle on the reviews are the same plastic kettle so I don't think mine is a one off.

Oh I don't even think that chat is actually Ninja 😂

Amazon is absolute garbage i would never buy branded from them, since I got a tiny rucksack that was supposed to be a good brand, I asked for a refund which Amazon gave but they didn't want the tiny rucksack back!

BadgernTheGarden · 21/11/2025 12:36

Presumably you complained and returned it?

Im even more confused now as that is the kettle I've been sent, but in a different colour but the photo on the amazon listing is of a stainless steel gold one, not the one I've been sent. And Ninja are saying that the amazon one should be stainless steel like the listing.

I have reduced my shopping with Amazon due to this. There’s no quality control, so many people selling fake versions of books. 3rd party sellers selling fake goods. It’s a nightmare trying to sift through all the dross.

HectorPlasm · 21/11/2025 12:40

Boss t-shirts - fake as you like - only from a shop now!

It's probably just a mix up. Did you return it?

Coffeeishot · 21/11/2025 12:41

Get an amazon refund and buy a proper Ninja from Curry's or wherever.

Ninja don't seem to care at all!

Why would they? They've made their sale to amazon and got their money.

Ninja were fucking dogshit when my blender broke. The click on the locking mechanism in the lid snapped and I wanted to buy a new lid. It was listed as out of stock for months and all they said was "add yourself to the stock notification list."

From google, it was a known issue.
I couldn't use my blender while it was broken and they couldnt care less.

The cheeky bastards were still selling the complete blender and telling me they didn't know when they would get replacement lids, just that it would be "soon". Couldn't answer me when I repeatedly asked "when?" Which pissed me right off because if you've placed an order for lids, you know roughly when you expect that order to be fulfilled and can relay that to your customer. Even just knowing it would be approx 3 months would have been fine.

In the end, and after months of tagging them on social media and getting lip service replies saying they wanted to help, "message us and we will loop you in with customer services to resolve etc", they concluded they would resolve it by sending me an entirely new blender. I have no idea if they ever sourced new lids as a seperate order for those poor bastards with the same problem or were ever honest with then about whether they even actually planned to get more stock in.

Basically, customer service was awful and they didn't want to get off their arses to sort it out so I'm not surprised they don't care about their rep.

I bought some Mepore surgical wound plasters from Amazon for a post surgery wound I had. I’d had Mepore from the hospital, had been changing them daily. and thought I’d get extra from Amazon. The Amazon ones, despite being fully branded as Mepore, literally caused the most awful reaction that required further treatment from the hospital - I actually ended up having to have part of my wound eventually excised and re stitched as a result.

So I not only had to have care for my wound, but further care and treatment for the reaction these fake plasters gave me. Disgraceful when it’s a ‘medical’ product.

ZestyDog · 21/11/2025 12:56

I bought a bottle of Olaplex from amazon and it was fake. Loads of spelling mistakes on the bottle. I got a refund no problem.
I can explain how this happens though

Legit company sell through Amazon so send their products to the warehouse where they get put on a shelf.
Dodgy company make a load of fake products, sell through Amazon, and send their products to the warehouse where, as Amazon think it's the same thing, they get stuck on the same shelf.
So even if you buy from (for example) Olaplex on Amazon, you're not guaranteed to get a bottle of shampoo that Olaplex actually sent to the warehouse. It might be a bottle that Dodgy fake co. sent.
You might buy from the dodgy fake co and get a legit item.

Coffeeishot · 21/11/2025 12:58

Same here, it's almost impossible to find decent stuff that's actually what you want without scrolling through pages and pages of garbage. Unless I know exactly how to find the thing I want I look elsewhere first now.

It’s good you got a refund then as if your order history showed you ordered from the actual brand shop and not say a third party seller I’d have thought they may have accused you of lying or something!
