To warn you about amazon selling fake products?

Not a 3rd party, not amazon marketplace but Amazon directly.

I always assumed buying from Amazon was safe, have used them for years as long as you don't use 3rd party sellers.

I bought a kettle from 'The Ninja Shop' on amazon. The photos are stainless steel. The description says stainless steel and a plastic kettle arrived.

All the reviews have this same plastic kettle. Some complaints about it.

I contacted Ninja who confirmed that the kettle is an amazon exclusive but should be stainless steel and confirmed they do NOT sell plastic kettles.

So amazon themselves are selling this 'exclusive ' kettle that is not made by ninja.

They could be from anywhere and be a huge fire risk!

I will not be buying any Ninja or electrical items from Amazon again as you have no idea what you may be getting!

(Yes btw i do already have a thread about this kettle but that thread was about the discrepancy in the item recieved, I am starting this thread based on communication from Ninja confirming the kettle is not theirs)

Yes, that’s correct.

But also, the “Revlon store” on Amazon is not actually operated by Revlon. If you look at the products, they are all sold by Amazon. It’s just Amazon making a subsection of their website for a brand. It’s the same for “The Ninja store”.

Yes, the brands may have had input into how their “store” looks, but it’s just Amazon’s way of grouping together all products from a brand. You are not buying direct from the manufacturer when you are buying from those “stores”, you are buying from Amazon, and so you may end up with a genuine product that has been sourced from the manufacturer by Amazon, or you may end up with a fake product that has been sourced by a random 3rd party seller.

Yep. I've bought products from a brand's "store" and while not obviously fake they did look ancient (musty smell and outdated packaging that the company had changed years ago), and the packaging looked like it had been wet at some point in its long life.

I used to buy from Amazon but a few dodgy buys, no answer from customer service and I am fully done with them.

Thank you for clarifying, @RockaLock - that's really useful information!

I contacted Hills pet food about thjeir hydrolysed food which our cat has to have to prevent what is in effect IBS
I had seen it on Amazon
At the end of the conversation the vet said she would send a list of suppliers as they had a small number of approved distributers
I said I had seen it on Amazon
She said do NOT buy from amazon as it is fake and will make our cat extremely ill and require vetinary intervention

I have also heard that stuff like Yumove pet tablets on Amazon are likely to be fake. Worrying about dog food, I buy Scrumbles dogfood from Amazon.

I’ve also heard about stuff like make up and skincare on Amazon being fake. Lots of people saying they got fake Biore watery essence. Which is worrying as they bought something they thought was spf50 but may not have been.

I am so thankful that a combination of having very modest needs and good shops nearby means I have never used Amazon and probably never will.

Some of the stories here make me even more convinced I do not want to deal with them, although I realise that some people will find them a convenient retail option.

We only buy cheaper basics where we are not bothered about the brand eg basic mop, plastic storage tubs etc.

I would never buy branded toiletries or clothing or electricals or kitchen goods (apart from basic teaspoons etc). I'd rather just pay a little more and buy from an established retailer.

Rip offs are absolutely rife. Amazon are merely a middle man platform (similar to Air BnB, booking.com etc).

So I bought a box of orange Aero for my elderly DF from a UK wholesalers that I found online. All good.

However the other day, an ad popped up on my phone from Alibaba for wholesale Aero. Quite shocked about this, and amazed that Rowntree McKintosh don't try to stop it. And it's now made me think twice about where I buy it, asassuming a lot of the online retailers and poundland/corner shops are selling counterfeit chocolate.

Probably the same suppliers who sell to these dodgy outlets.
