DDs phone is off/dead should I worry?

DD is 17, we are Scottish so she is already at uni, her birthday is in February. She moved to London for uni.

I messaged her at 5pm, she told me she would call me when she got home at 6/6.30pm. I haven’t heard since and when I message her on WhatsApp it one ticks, when I try to call it goes straight to voicemail.

I know I’m probably panicking unnecessarily but she was pretty clear about not having any plans tonight and it wouldn’t be like her to have her phone off, if her phone dies she usually charges it back pretty quickly and always takes her battery pack with her.

DH thinks I am being dramatic and if we haven’t heard from her by the morning we should worry but she might just be busy with friends.

I don’t think you’re being dramatic, I would be worried too in this situation.
All you can do for now is wait for her to contact you, as awful as that is. I’m sure she’s completely fine, her phone has been stolen or lost. Thinking of you!

I feel the relief you are feeling (along with everyone else on this thread who have teenage DCs at university!). It’s happened to us too (DDs phone died and she was off with friends) and you go through every stage of terror there is. 💐to you…this is truly parenting 101…it was far easier and less stressful when you were battling to get them to eat veg and put their shoes on the right feet!!

The poor girl she can't even hang out with friends or a boyfriend without her Mum causing a crisis at the opposite end of the country. No wonder she turned off the location, I'd say she will be switching her phone off a lot more from now on.

I understand the worry, I really do. I have DC the same age. But the worry is your issue OP, not your DDs problem. You need to keep your worries to yourself.

I have DD’s of a similar age and would have worried too. Luckily we all stalk each others locations daily 🤣. I think my DD’s would be outraged if I suggest turning the locations off.
