Stranger swore at me in a shop today

I was shopping with my DS earlier at a clothing store and a man was sat down. Unfortunately, his bum was exposed due to his jeans being low.

My DS (4yo) mentioned this to me - ‘look at that’ sort of thing. The man overheard and told me to ‘mind my fucking business’ and stood up and walked away.

I was so taken aback I didn’t say anything. Is it me or are people so angry these days?

Why did your son believe it was ok to make personal remarks about other people?

Why did your son believe it was ok to make personal remarks about other people?

Probably because he's 4???????

He's only 4!

Why did your son believe it was ok to make personal remarks about other people?

He’s 4 years old.

He was probably just embarrassed. It wasn’t you who made the observation, it was your small child god love him. The bloke couldn’t very well take his embarrassment out on a 4 year old so sadly you bore the brunt of it. His reaction was shitty, if it had been me I’d have had a laugh about it but some people do take themselves very serious

Redshoeblueshoe · 12/11/2025 16:26

The child is 4,
Yes some people are crazy and rude

Why did your son believe it was ok to make personal remarks about other people?

He’s 4 and he saw an arse.

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 12/11/2025 16:27

Kids are honest and tell things as they are. As they get older, they filter/lie a lot more.

Booklook · 12/11/2025 16:29

You son is four and these things happen but he was pretty rude and the man was embarrassed.

Is there a part of the story missing? If yourson simply pointed (from behind, presumably) and said look at that, how did he even know itwas aimed at him? What was your response, the one that made him swear and tell you to mind your business?

😂Are you the man whose arse was on display?

Greenwitchart · 12/11/2025 16:48

''@AyrshireTryer · Today 16:24

Why did your son believe it was ok to make personal remarks about other people?''

Because he is 4 and therefore he does not have a filter and also because he is a smart little boy who knows that people don't usually walk around in public places with their arse on display.

drinkwaterx · 12/11/2025 16:50

Hes 4 not even 60 months old, of course hes going to say something thats what kids do.
I love their honesty tbh.

Why did your son believe it was ok to make personal remarks about other people?

Yep, at 4 they notice all sorts! My DS saw a lady in a black headscarf in the shop and said oh look mummy, a witch 🫣 thankfully she laughed, I was mortified and kept apologising

rogueherries · 12/11/2025 16:52

He was embarrassed, but people like this take so little responsibility for themselves or their anti-social behaviour these days it’s easier to take it out on a four year old child. Awful man, shameful behaviour.

TheatricalLife · 12/11/2025 16:55

Some people just live their lives angry 🤷‍♀️ I've learned to totally tune it out.

Chiefangel · 12/11/2025 16:56

Hopefully the chap in question will hoick his trousers up in future. Your little son is 4, they say things as they see them. The man just sounds plain nasty.

Why did your son believe it was ok to make personal remarks about other people?

A) he's a child and B) he was just saying what most people probably think. Why men think it's ok to have their arse crack on display in public these days really baffles me.

Hairyfairy01 · 12/11/2025 17:03

how did you deal with what your son said?

He’s a very little boy. Have you never heard of the story of The Emperor’s New Clothes?

Everyone ignores the bleedin’ obvious until a small boy says’But he hasn’t got any clothes on - he’s in the nude!’

Moral of the story in this case: don’t go around with your backside on show in public and get all huffy when people point and stare.

I hope OP had a jolly good laugh with her son once out of earshot of this stupid man.

Letsdosomestargazing · 12/11/2025 17:09

Before I had children I gained a lot of weight one year and a little girl once pointed me out to her mother ‘look at that fat lady.’

I was really embarrassed and upset and I did snap at the mother which I feel awful about as children are unpredictable and I understand that now. But I was mortified and I guess this man felt the same.

Once I’d processed what I’d heard, this is pretty much what we did!

Yes (and no.)

Four is old enough to understand not making personal remarks. I don’t mean the OP did anything wrong but the moral to the story should really be to have a gentle word about not upsetting people by pointing out things that might make them sad or embarrassed.

PixieandMe · 12/11/2025 17:12

There's a bit missing. What was your reply to your son that made the man tell you to mind your own business?
