correct me if I have missed anything here on this… but has the news gone quiet on the woman who was attacked unprovoked in Birmingham? Do we know who done it?!

Do you remember when Karen Ingala Smith was investigating the issue of crimes against older women and found that, for some unfathomable reason, crimes against women over a certain age weren't being entered into the statistics? Some official bodies only include crimes against adults in their statistics, which must skew things dramatically. IIRC, it was also the case that an individual would only be counted as a victim of crime five times in a year. So have the misfortune to be a repeat victim (not unfeasible if you are a domestic violence victim or a shopkeeper or a police officer or a homeless person) and only the first five crimes count. Add in all the reasons why people don't report crime (which must be worse when they expect police apathy) then the statistics just seem a joke.

That seems ridiculous that crimes were not being recorded.
I do feel there is some degree records not being fully true and accurate for the reasons you have stated.

the victim has now died 😢 it’s so sad

Yes you say that about some people can care about more than one thing at once, but you don’t miss a trick about banging the superior drum when it suits you.

What do you mean?

Triggered?
Do you need a safe space to go and have a lie down.
😂

That is such a shitty thing to say on a thread like this.

JazzyBBBG · 10/11/2025 16:32

It's such a busy area where this happened, really scary. I did think when it was her neck it was unlikely she would survive but she must have really held on bless her. Sad and terrifying.

Orchidgrower · 10/11/2025 16:43

As someone has been charged with the offence there will not be much the media can report until the trial or sentencing. A trial is likely to be at least a few months away and potentially nearer a year or more with the current Crown Court backlogs.

What someone mentions Daily Mail two days ago and the poster posts that.
Nothing shitty about my comment.

Sorry op, not an immigrant. Better luck next time

Just because he is a British National , doesn’t mean he’s British

Glad it wasn’t.. Confused

Very sad. RIP Katie Fox. Thoughts are with her family and friends.

We need open discussion about this. Yes violence has always happened but as someone who used to live in B'ham and have family there this is not normal for Brum. It used to be a friendly and safe city. I used to cycle around it and catch the night bus etc.

It is a busy area but it’s one I try to avoid. I never feel safe around there, especially close to and in the tunnel towards Moor St.

It’s such sad news that she’s died, my thoughts are with the loved ones of Katie Fox.

He was arrested for violent offences that occurred on 27 October, following that he went on to murder this lady last week. So yeah, it seems whatever police intervention happened between 27 October and 7 November was insufficient to deter him going on to commit murder such a short time later. He wasn’t a first time offender.

This is what got me, that he had already been arrested for a violent incident the previous week. If he had been remanded in custody for the previous incident, the murder would not have happened.

He could be a newly naturalised Briton but I doubt it.

Same. I would no think think twice walking through the Queensway tunnel to catch my bus.

I will keep it in context though that (thankfully) this kind of random attack is incredibly rare (which is no comfort to the victim and her family).

Sorica · 10/11/2025 18:37

RIP Katie Fox.

I’m glad they have caught the nasty individual responsible; whether he’s had a mental health crisis, is an incel or a gang member, the fact is he’s committed a terrible offence which has destroyed a life.

@ShaunDfyi British Nationals are legally British because they are British citizens and are entitled to British passports which makes you British. Your ethnicity may not be for example 100% English, Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish but if you hold British citizenship you are British.

I was attacked and beaten up in broad daylight as a teenager in B’ham city centre just over 20 years ago in broad daylight. An attack witnessed by easily about 50 people walking along the busy road and nobody intervened.
I can’t say i blame them- the man had clear mental health issues, frothing at the mouth screaming about the devil.
My friend managed to get me home but I was in so much pain.
a few months later after I had just started going back into the city, I saw him again and froze with terror.
This city has got worse and worse, I’m not sure how this sorry state of affairs can be reversed as there don’t seem to be enough resources for anything.

That must have been awful-I hope you didn’t have long term effects. But I’m not sure why you’re saying the city’s getting worse and worse when your attack was 20 years ago?

CurlewKate · 10/11/2025 18:59

I find this whole thing about citizenship and nationality very confusing. I am a white native English speaker, but I am the first member of my family to be born in England and to hold a British passport. My parents and siblings have/had indefinite leave to remain. I always thought that made me English and British both by nationality and citizenship.

I think people use words interchangeably. How would you describe your ethnicity?

Lordofthewing · 10/11/2025 19:43

@CurlewKate thank you for your kind wishes. I do maintain that this city has gone downhill, there is barely a police presence anywhere, the city after dark is intimidating. I’m not saying these problems do not exist in other cities but to my eyes they have increased here a lot. I’m so sorry for this poor lady and her family.

TeenagersAngst · 10/11/2025 19:47

And in answer to your question, I believe yes, you do have British nationality and citizenship if you are born here. That’s not the same in all countries. China, for example.

i don’t think they do about non white people. There’s always someone saying “Ah, but…” about black British people….
My ethnicity? Well, I’d tick White British if I had to tick a box.

Presumably because some people think British means ethnicity. Thats what I mean about using words interchangeably.
