Do you get your children Christmas presents or are they all from Santa?

Growing up all of my presents Christmas morning were off Santa, my parents didn’t get us presents but they always said they paid Santa for the presents. Some of my friends received a main gift from Santa and the rest from parents. My DD is only 1.5 so have a year or two to decide how I’ll do it but I’m just curious.

Stocking and the thing they write on their letter are from Santa. Everything else is from whoever has gifted it - us/grandparents/aunties/friends etc.
Santa delivers them though - the gifts get bought and sent to the North Pole for Santa to deliver. (I found wrapped presents hidden one year and that was the story my mum said so I’ve stuck with it for mine) 😂

Tintackedsea · 08/11/2025 21:35

Stocking from Santa but rest from us. Different from my childhood.

Pancakeflipper · 08/11/2025 21:37

Stocking from Santa and a present (usually the big gift). Other gifts from DP and me. But our children are now in their teens a d stay up later than me on Christmas Eve.

Justcallmedaffodil · 08/11/2025 21:38

Just one main present from Santa here. Makes it easier when DS writes his letter to Santa as he knows he can only ask for one thing he really wants (no pets or electronics). Also means I don’t have to hide all the other parcels that start arriving from October/November onwards; DS knows that they’re presents from us, and we all bring them down together to put under the tree on Christmas Eve. I have Santa’s gift wrapped in different paper and well hidden, to add to the pile once DS is asleep.

Offmybloodybulbs · 08/11/2025 21:41

We are an all from Santa, I have said if he ever stops bringing them then we'd step in. And they never did have excessive lists - always said list was a guide anyway you don't get all of it. They are 15 and 18 - Santa sacks still go out Christmas Eve.

My mum left a cheque for Santa. It made me confused and miserable and sucked all the magical joy out of Christmas. Although it may be down to how you do it. She was clearly irked that someone else was getting the credit for bringing joy at Christmas. 'i have to pay for it you know...'

One gift and stocking from santa. Everything under the tree from us.

Talkingfrog · 08/11/2025 21:42

Mixture of both, but any santa had been asked for were included from him.

PollyBell · 08/11/2025 21:43

One or 2 from santa the rest from whoever gave them including us

Denim4ever · 08/11/2025 21:44

In my family and DHs we always got one big present from Santa and a stocking of little things. All other presents and another stocking from us and family

Santa is a glorified postman in our house 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

I tell my kids that I buy the presents from shops, but then I send them to the North Pole so the elves can wrap them for me. Then Santa delivers them back to us on Christmas Eve all wrapped and ready to go

Honestly I just don't understand this.
It's so weird.

TheShyMumX · 08/11/2025 21:53

When I was little a stocking from Santa that appeared over night
the rest of the presents were from actual people and went under our tree from when it went up around December 1st, I remember one of my brothers friends seeing the tree mid December and being gobsmacked that Santa had ‘already been’ I assume in his house poor Santa had to get every single present for every single person in the house out of his sleigh and down the chimney quick time

Like shit am I letting a man take all the credit for the effort and money that I put into christmas. Father christmas gets them one present we get the rest.

I laughed like a drain when Dd told me Santa wasn’t real and daddy did it all.

Stocking and a main gift from Santa. The rest are from us!

Same.

MoonBugs · 08/11/2025 22:00

Small sized stocking (not an huge sack as I’ve seen some use) only from Father Christmas, not filled with super expensive things either. The rest of the presents are from us.

All from Santa here

Sane

ChipDaleRescueRangers · 08/11/2025 22:01

Stocking from santa. All the others from family etc..... but santa delivers them all.

I'll bet you did!😂 I think mine have already realised that mum does it all i.e. everything that wasn't the santa present. I remember my dad asking 'oh that's brilliant, who got you that?' and us going 'you did dad' and my OH has done the same with my kids.🙄

Londonrach1 · 08/11/2025 22:02

Stocking only or else how you explain that a friend gets the latest anything but your dc gets new pj's.

Beamur · 08/11/2025 22:04

Stocking from Santa.
I used to fill it with Christmas themed stuff - like socks, hair grips, PJ's. Santa is egoist who gets gifts in his own image 😄

Danikm151 · 08/11/2025 22:06

I’m not letting the fat man take all the credit. 1 main present from Father Christmas with a few stocking bits.
The rest is friends and family.

DancingQueen2018 · 08/11/2025 22:07

One present (usually the one they’d asked for when we’d seen FC) and the stocking here.

ByKindOpalPoet · 08/11/2025 22:08

Roughly half and half for me. Half the presents from Santa (usually toys, clothes etc) and the other half from us and these tend to be the bigger presents. Plus the stocking which tends to include bath bombs etc

LilacPony · 08/11/2025 22:08

One gift from Santa in the stocking. Everything else from us, family etc.

I had a friend who told her children all gifts were from Santa - she’d take the gift we’d got the children from us and take the label off etc. found it really strange they couldn’t appreciate someone getting them something and that joy of gift giving.

I think it’s a little unfair on children who are less fortunate to hear from other children about all the many gifts they got from Santa whilst they may not have got much. And one child getting an Xbox from him but the other a pencil case. That’s why I like to do one gift from Santa.

Mrsmch123 · 08/11/2025 22:11

All from Santa

Beedeeoh · 08/11/2025 22:16

All from Santa here too, my parents did the same with us.

Those asking about the credit - well I may not have appreciated my parents' efforts on Christmas morning when I was a young child, but I certainly look back now and appreciate very much how magical they made our Christmasses.
