Do you get your children Christmas presents or are they all from Santa?

Growing up all of my presents Christmas morning were off Santa, my parents didn’t get us presents but they always said they paid Santa for the presents. Some of my friends received a main gift from Santa and the rest from parents. My DD is only 1.5 so have a year or two to decide how I’ll do it but I’m just curious.

Stockings from.Santa.
Presents delivered by santa, but all labeled as to who they came from (ie he's postman)

SplishSplash123 · 08/11/2025 20:18

All from Santa but will be explaining that we send money to Santa for the presents and then using things like Shoebox Appeal to support with the idea that Santa needs help to give gifts to those whose parents can't send him the money

Maybeishouldcrochet · 08/11/2025 20:21

So my child knows that I set the budget and the parents pay for everything whether from Santa or from us ... We love in a deprived area and some of her friends don't get very much- so we decided that from early on .... However she thinks Santa is creepy- not knowing him and him coming into the house- so all presents are from us and Santa doesn't come here ....

DappledThings · 08/11/2025 20:21

Only stockings from Father Christmas. And none of this everything being delivered on Xmas Eve either. Everything except stocking presents goes under the tree as soon as it arrives and is wrapped.

Dairymilkisminging · 08/11/2025 20:23

Santa brings the presents but they are from us. Bar a few small gifts from santa. Im not letting someone else take the glory of presents.

gohomeroger1 · 08/11/2025 20:24

Stocking and medium sized present from Santa max £30-40 cost. Main gift and other presents from us.

stitty · 08/11/2025 20:25

Few cheap bits from Santa , rest is from mum and dad

Tryingmybest100 · 08/11/2025 20:25

Stockings from father Christmas, everything else from people.

Curiousrobin · 08/11/2025 20:27

My parents did some from them but most from Father Christmas. My son is only 3 so doesn't really think about who it's coming from yet (but is more excited about the idea of FC bringing presents) so we'll probably do from both eventually, but right now all are from FC.

They get one special gift from Santa that they ask him for when we visit him at the start of December. The rest are from us

One present from Santa in our house. He also randomly collects a sack of toys from under our tree and puts that in the bedroom. Not really sure why we started that!

WonderlandWasAllAHoax · 08/11/2025 20:33

When I was growing up, stockings came from "Father Christmas" and everything else was from parents, family etc.

But I was raised not believing that Father Christmas was real, it was just a fun tradition/story/game we played along with. I always knew everything was from my parents.

Ponderingwindow · 08/11/2025 20:33

We didn’t really get too much into the whole Santa thing. Dd came home from school with the idea of Santa and we didn’t contradict her. There was always one unsigned present on Christmas morning. Its value varied. It was typically just whatever was the most difficult thing to put under the tree. Everything else was explicitly from someone.

we did it this way for two reasons. First, we don’t like to lie. Second, I figured out Santa at age 5 because elves don’t write Made in China on things like hair clips.

MaggieBsBoat · 08/11/2025 20:34

Little gifts from Santa. Otherwise how do you explain to your kids when they are at school that Santa gives some kids tvs and Xboxes but they get books and boardgames and cheaper gifts???

BobblyBobbleHat · 08/11/2025 20:41

I'm not worried about dd comparing, by the time she goes back to school it's old news and we don't go mad on presents anyway. The elves can't make electricals and animals might poop on other people's gifts.

Mewling · 08/11/2025 20:43

Yep, stocking is from Santa and everything else from me. Friends and family send money to be used for experiences throughout the year. DC asks Santa for really random stuff, which is always a nice challenge!

stichguru · 08/11/2025 20:45

Stocking the size of an actual real man's sock from Santa. Everything else from the person they are from. For two reasons that I think are really important:

  1. I want my kids to know that this friend was kind enough to give them that present and I want them to understand how nice that was and thank the person.
  2. My kid knows that some of his friends are lucky to have parents better off than us, and some have parents who are far less well off than us. He also knows he is lucky to have a number of real aunties and a number of "aunties" who are old family friends who love him and get him stuff. When he gets different presents to his friends, I want him to understand that, not think that Santa loves some friends more than him and others less, or that he's been "better" than or "naughty" compared to ...
CryMyEyesViolet · 08/11/2025 20:46

Our big present is from Santa, but he chooses the present. You can give him ideas, but he knows what’s best to bring (to temper any crazy requests).

The rest of the presents we send off to Santa for him to bring. But we and family buy them and send them.

All from Santa here

So your kids think you don’t get them anything?

I told mine that every house has different rules and we all tell Santa what our preferences are. So, some families are ok with him bringing electronics. In our house, that’s not what we like, so I buy those and Santa brings other things (in the past, Grimms wooden toys, Jellycat teddy bears, magic coins).

HappyGilmorex · 08/11/2025 20:47

Just stockings from Santa in our family

DisappointedD · 08/11/2025 20:49

Depended what they wanted / were getting, main present something massive like an Xbox, it was from us & Santa. We sent money and he decided if they could have it. Something smaller like a specific doll, then that was from Santa and the other gifts from us. He would then deliver all the gifts that we and other family members had sent to him.

cornflourblue · 08/11/2025 20:51

Stockings and one medium gift from Santa here. As PP have said, we didn't want DC asking Santa for ridiculously priced gifts, or comparing with other children who may have less than them. And yeah, why should anyone else get credit for all the work, money and pleasure I put into choosing their gifts!

TempestTost · 08/11/2025 20:52

In our family Santa brings stockings, which typically have frivolous fun gifts. We often gave practical gifts from us. It was kind of fun when they got older and realised we actually knew what they wanted all along and bought it for them.

Sortalike · 08/11/2025 20:55

Santa brings one present and the stocking.

The present from Santa is usually the one thing DD knows we wouldn't buy - this year it is a slime making kit. DD knows we will not buy slime, but Santa doesn't follow the same rules as Mummy and Daddy so he's obviously real!!
