Aibu to think that the Darlington nurse case in court right now has not had much press and that it is a very important case.

I’ve not heard of it - which probably proves your point!

Do you have a link to the case?

hardstareglare · 07/11/2025 16:35

I'll try and find one.

Tribunal Tweets have live tweeted the whole case.

https://open.substack.com/pub/tribunaltweets/p/eight-nurses-v-county-durham-and?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

They have a load of news media links at the bottom, such as the link below to an archives site version of a Telegraph article.

The upshot is 300 women were forced to share an NHS hospital changing room with a biological man claiming womanly feelings.

Complaining individually got the women nowhere.

Complaining as a group got the women nowhere.

The women were treated appallingly by the Trust and the result was an Employment Tribunal.

The biological male was finally kicked out of the women's changing room a few months ago.

The women however still face potential disciplinary action after the biological man complained about the women complaining. The investigation was paused until after the Employment Tribunal was held

Thanks for the links Boiledbeetle I can't do archive links unfortunately.

All the details are on the Christian Concern site as well.

The nurses' union wouldn't help them at any stage during their complaint. But did help the biological man raise his complaint about their complaint.

Darlington Nurses - Christian Concern

The Darlington Nurses were told they needed to ‘broaden their mindset’ and be more ‘inclusive’, because they didn’t want to share a changing room with a biological male identifying as a woman.

What shocked me about this and the Sandie Peggie one was the number of people in the tribunal saying ‘I don’t understand. No one complained!’.

You are in a tribunal. Of course people complained. You just chose to ignore it, and to refuse to deal with it. All those annoying women grumbling at you? The whiny ones that got on your tits and made you have extra meetings? The ones you organised disciplinary processes for? They were complaining.

hardstareglare · 07/11/2025 17:01

Exactly.

Why weren't the women's complaints listen to in either case.

hardstareglare · 07/11/2025 17:01

Exactly.

Why weren't the women's complaints listen to in either case.

Because HR and all the managers were all too scared to ask the biological man to get out of the women's changing room.

Instead they tried to send the women for re-education and shoved those who still complained in basically a cupboard (that the biological man could also have used it he'd decided to).

A cupboard that wasn't compliant in any manner with current health and safety regulations and was not up to standard with regards fire regulations.

hardstareglare · 07/11/2025 17:06

I might be wrong @PrizedPickledPopcorn but I think it takes a strong character to complain in this day and age.

Is this the case where the staff member stripped off to holey boxers because they were needed to accommodate his "equipment"?

IIRC multiple nurses complaints went nowhere for years and then the special staff member complained and an investigation was launched within a couple of weeks.

honeybeetheoneandonly · 07/11/2025 17:09

There is a long running thread on mn on the feminism board, if you are interested.

The transwoman, who calls himself Rose, admitted in court that he wore boxers with holes in. It's very hard to believe he has gender dysphoria when he didn't mind exposing his genitals to his female colleagues.

Didn't he also ask a pregnant nurse about the size of her breasts?

This kind of harassment of women is happening in hospitals all over the UK. It should be front page news that nurses are still having to put up with sharing changing rooms with any man who claims to be a woman.

borntobequiet · 07/11/2025 17:16

It really is very odd that this employment tribunal hasn’t had way more publicity, especially given that there was quite a lot in the press when the women first went to the media.
What the tribunal has made clear is that the nurses only approached the media because their complaints about the disturbing behaviour of the trans identifying man in their changing room were not being addressed.
Instead, their names were given to said trans identifying man so that he could intimidate them, and they were threatened with disciplinary proceedings. Some, under this pressure, withdrew their complaints. The NHS Trust prioritised the man and ignored the women. Evidence given by managers in court made this overwhelmingly clear. Some of the responses were quite shocking in their callous disregard for the dignity, privacy and safety of the women (the alternative facility they were offered was tiny, opened directly onto a corridor and was not fire safety compliant, while the man had free use of the female changing room).
It’s well worth skimming the relevant threads about this in the Feminism section.

This exactly. The female nurses complained. Tumbleweed. Then the male dr in his holey y-fronts complained because he felt discriminated against and all hell broke out.

The female nurses were told they were totally unreasonable and needed re-educating and the best person to re-educate them was obviously the male dr with the holey y-fronts

Absolute fucking madness 😠

Just waiting for the usual complainants to arrive and scold the OP for putting this in AIBU because anything related to this subject MUST be confined to the naughty corner (AKA the feminism sex and gender discussion board). Particularly NOT the other feminism board.

Hold on.....

The nurses complained to managers?? and then their names were given to the person they were complaining about?

Yes. This is usual in the NHS.

Yep! He was kept updated as well as to which nurses had been intimidated into withdrawing their name from the group complaint as well.

Whereas the women weren't even told the investigation into their behaviour had been put on pause.

hardstareglare · 07/11/2025 17:23

How many nurses originally complained?

How many nurses originally complained?

26 women in the day surgery unit (over 50% of the female staff in that department) signed the complaint letter.

porridgecake · 07/11/2025 17:25

The Darlington case involves a male operating department assistant, the Fife case involved a male doctor. Same issue though. Nurses must comply with getting undressed in front of males.

porridgecake · 07/11/2025 17:26

Tried to edit - meant to say Female nurses.
