My work colleague is bonkers, isn’t she!?

My long term and close colleague told me today she sometimes makes a 40 minute round trip home on lunch to avoid having to ‘do the deed’ using the only loo in our office. Is this not the most ridiculous thing ever 😂

Edited to say I’m not the P troll before anyone says haha

I know loads of people that won’t poo anywhere other than in their own home.

Odd they get too embarrassed to poop, but not to tell everyone about not being able to poop.

Ive always been a poop at home person, I’ve never mentioned this to anyone I know!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 06/11/2025 17:50

Only go on your own throne.

Most people l know are like this.

I had to tell my mum why we needed separate rooms when we went on holiday together last year -because otherwise I'd spend the whole time not being able to shit! Even with own bloody mother I'd be too uptight. Absolutely ridiculous.

One is my sister and she tells me things in graphic detail.

I live with the other person so I am all too familiar with their toilet schedule (unfortunately).

MushMonster · 06/11/2025 17:52

This issue is so so common in schools because of their obsession with locking toilets up! Many children just avoid using the toilet so not to get all the fuff of permits and issues that goes with it.

I actually get it.
Multiple toilets for the workplace, I wouldn't care. One? I would. To be honest, I'd probably be unable to go anyway, but however bonkers it seems, I'd be the same. Wee, no issues.

Yeah but in that case (i.e. I don't want to poo where colleagues might know, rather than I can't poo anywhere that isn't my own house) surely there is an alternative a bit closer? Sneaky mcdonalds or whatever? 40 min drive could be anywhere between 5-20miles, it could be costing her up to £8 a poo!

As an occasional thing it's not that mad, people often pop home/to shops for one thing or another during work, but if she does that every day I'd be trying to retrain myself into going either before/after work.

Given it's not an emergency situation like IBS as she's able to wait at least 20 minutes, and more like up to 4 hrs (because she must have to wait from 8am-12pm or from after lunch break until she finishes work), I don't see why she can't wait longer and just go when she gets home if it's that big a deal?

YenneferOfVengerburg · 06/11/2025 16:48

Right - and this just came up in conversation?

I have NEVER had a conversation about where I poo

Really? What on earth do you talk about at work?

Elsvieta · 06/11/2025 17:58

Using toilets for their intended purpose, whenever you need to = normal.

Discussing bowel movements at work = weird.

Shitmonger · 06/11/2025 17:58

Cornflakegirl7 · 06/11/2025 17:39

I'm not sure it works well verbally as 'poutine' is an American? South American perhaps food/dish mate with cheese and potatoes!

I seem to only know people who cannot and will not poo anywhere other than home, and people who make a song and dance about it, letting everyone know. No-one 'normal' in my circle!

Canadian! I was going to say that the Canadians might not appreciate their beloved dish being linked to poo habits. 😂

Seriously? Its just occured to me how often I do talk about poo. 😕

I regularly have conversations with friends, family, colleagues....about poop habits

Some people never go at work. I say luckybthem, some of us get no option. I have been known to leave work and go to the nearest public loos if im having "issues" (ibs)

Besttimeofyear · 06/11/2025 18:01

The people saying they won’t/can’t do it at work, how do you stop yourself? Surely if you need to go, you need to go?
Tip is to try to get it done in the morning before leaving home-strong coffee maybe. When I was young, a cigarette used to do it 🫣

Really? Not even with your mum when you were younger? Or with a partner about the state of a public toilet?

I could never and would never poo at work. I can barely poo on holiday. Its a thing. 😔

DS is the same. DD can shit anywhere. I'm so proud of her.

I'm with your colleague but she really should have trained herself not need to go in work hours. She needs to sort "her routine".

Your proud that your children have been taught to deny themselves natural bowel movement?

That's seriously unhealthy.

Zov · 06/11/2025 18:03

I can believe this. It's the same kind of batshit weirdo who has been married for 20+ years to their husband, and known him for 25 or more years, and has never farted in front of him - or burped. A parallel universe!!

I think you have misread what that poster said.

Michino · 06/11/2025 18:04

I used to have an ex colleague years ago, who used to purposely wait until he got to work. He was very pleased to be paid to shit!

bumblingbovine49 · 06/11/2025 18:05

I.mean not being able to wee at work would be a significant problem. I have to wee 2-3 times a day at work , especially if I am there for 8/9 hours

As for pooing, well generally I don't need to but sometimes if I get into work early and have breakfast there, then yes I need to and frankly would have trouble if I needed to go home to do that ! I certainly couldn't hold it all day.

People are quite odd sometimes

Randomlygeneratedname · 06/11/2025 18:05

It took me reading that 3 times to realise she wasn't being forced into sex at work during lunch 🤦

Same, I know where most of my friends enjoy pooing. One friend introduced me to the concept of having a comfy poo and now I look forward to it on a Friday night. Being stuck in the house when the kids are asleep, you have to find your own entertainment.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 06/11/2025 18:15

I thought "do the deed" was having a shag ?

I think it's crazy. Defecating is natural, but I do think some workplace toilets are poorly ventilated & should always be supplied with air fresheners.

To be honest, there have been times when I’ve come out the toilet, let out a big sigh and said “that was better than sex!”

DoYouReally · 06/11/2025 18:29

Apologies for my earlier comments. I misread the post.

AlexisP90 · 06/11/2025 18:32

Bit harsh to use the words bonkers and ridiculous. Would you use those words for people afraid of flying so they never go abroad?

Its pretty much the same thing.

I am one of those people. Well, not too extreme these days but I generally wouldnt poo at work unless I absolutely have to. Sort of trained myself to go first thing in the morning.

I remember I used to go home from a night out if I needed a poo - was about a 15 minute walk home from town. Quick do my business and back out for the night!
