My work colleague is bonkers, isn’t she!?

My long term and close colleague told me today she sometimes makes a 40 minute round trip home on lunch to avoid having to ‘do the deed’ using the only loo in our office. Is this not the most ridiculous thing ever 😂

Edited to say I’m not the P troll before anyone says haha

It's actually not massively uncommon for people to choose to take all their clothes off when owning their bowels.

I've got no evidence base on this other than seeing it a number of times in a professional context.

Wow - like the opposite of that old party game where you have to throw a six and then put on a thick overcoat, gloves, scarf, wellies etc., before trying to eat a bar of chocolate with a knife and fork!

DoYouReally · 06/11/2025 18:02

Your proud that your children have been taught to deny themselves natural bowel movement?

That's seriously unhealthy.

She is proud that her daughter can go anywhere. The opposite of what you are saying. You misread it.

Tryingatleast · 07/11/2025 07:16

People on mn have expressed disgust at people pooing in work toilets but 40 minutes!!!

SquareEyedSue · 07/11/2025 08:57

If I could engineer it so that I didn’t have to I would never use a public toilet. I wish they were cleaner.

Victoria station has some of the cleanest public toilets, in a nice building too. I also like the toilets in hotels (if you can wangle it) or John Lewis. If anyone knows of other nice toilets in central London please let me know so I can add them to my list.

I don't need to be naked to poop but I find it more difficult if I am wearing socks for some reason. I CAN, it just feels wrong

139steps · 07/11/2025 18:18

No one seems to have mentioned this so I’m worried it’s just me……?? I really struggle with work toilets not because of any kind of anxiety or the smell (as soon as it’s out, wipe, lid down and flush!!) but because of fart noises !! We have a long bank of cubicles and there’s always people in them and I’m so conscious of an accidental no warning loud farting noise especially as it’s soooo quiet in there and you just know when you open the cubicle door anyone at the (silent) sinks will know it’s you. I’ve tried the ‘flushing as you poo’ trick but it’s a silent flush too 😂. Is it just me?!?!

SpigTheFish · 07/11/2025 19:28

I feel sorry for the peole who go multiple times a day, that must be a challenge.

celticprincess · 07/11/2025 21:03

Oh gosh. I wish!! If I need to go I have no choice. Can’t hold it in. I wish I could!

What do they do when they go on holiday?? Or when staying overnight with a friend?

Some people are nuts.

Hardly nut because they don’t poo on holiday!
Peoples routines change, they eat different foods, if they fly it can cause dehydration so takes a few days before properly hydrated, there’s so many different reasons why people don’t poo on holiday, it’s not like they do it on purpose!!!

But for some people it isn't a case of "holding it". For me and others I just do not need to go outside of home (or a few other places) unless I have a dodgy tummy
Its not like I need to go and decide not to, I just don't feel the urge

There are some who will hold it though. My ex h could hold on all day after saying he could do with going.

For me, I eat breakfast and have a cuppa and then usually need to go pretty much straight away. But at my mast job I couldn’t eat that early so I would eat when I got to work. Meaning that like clockwork I’d need to go about half an hour after eating.

I’ve also known people who need to go after each meal. Apparently this isn’t actually a dodgy tummy and how your bowel is meant to work.

Weirdly for me though is that some places trigger me needing to go. Shops usually. Doesn’t matter what time of the day and if I have already been. Not every single time but pretty frequently. (Not if I’m spit all day in every shop but if I’m out shopping then I’ll need a visit).

In my current job it’s hit n miss as to if I need to go when I’m in the office. Some days I won’t but the days I get the urge I have to go.

At last, another poster whose experience chimes with my own.
It's not that I "refuse" to go outside my own home, but I have definitely noticed that it's very rare for me ever to feel the need to "go" anywhere else.... But there's definitely an urge that often kicks in as I walk through the front door. I usually poop in the morning after having coffee for breakfast. If I do feel the need to poop at work then I can, it's just quite rare to need to.
Re the OP's colleague, I would find a 40 minute round trip rather excessive, but if she's doing it in her own time, then who am I to criticise? It's better for her health than holding it in for half the day!

SquareEyedSue · 07/11/2025 21:51

What is bonkers about wanting to crap in a place where you feel comfortable and know to be clean? And hasn’t had a million and one other unknown backsides sat on it.

A lot of very young children will only Pooh at home. Can you blame them?

Bernardo1 · 07/11/2025 23:57

Absolutely, she's not the King, or Trump with his Lincoln Bathroom.

Would be more sensible, take less time to have her own cleaning materials, to do the necessary.

Anearoa · 08/11/2025 01:17

Out of interest, do the non-work poo-ers ever stay in a hotel? A toilet that’s been used before, a bed that’s been slept in by other people.

Also, why drive home for a poo but not for the other? Or does she drive home for the other too?

Well I can't see any connection between the need to go and the availability and cleanliness of the facilities that are hopefully nearby.

Lack of facilities or unpleasantness of those which are available doesn't magically mean I no longer need to go, I will fairly soon so its highly likely I'll fairly regularly need to use a toilet that's not my own so I do.

Plus it's rare that they're visibly unclean or nothing that can't be sorted with a quick wipe.

I don't have any issue with the back of my thighs touching a surface that has also been in contact with the same belonging to other people, what is likely to happen?

So, you do you. We can’t make others do as we do. I sympathise with the colleague.

When I stay in a hotel or Self catering place its "home" so no issues there.
As I said before its not a choice or as if I am trying and failing to go anywhere other than home, the need rarely arises. If I have an upset tummy then I go but ordinarily i just never need to go unless at home

My friend weirdly gets really annoyed with her partner if he does a poo in a pub or restaurant toilet! Not everyone is regular and if they suddenly need to go what is the alternative?

Im glad to hear your phobias are rational.

Many aren't

Im afraid of cotton wool. Terrified. Vomit if I touch it. Sweat if I see it.

Its ridiculous... but its my phobia.

Are you me? I thought I was literally the only person in the world with this phobia.

This is where I draw a massive line, personally. If somebody wants/feels the need to restrict themselves to only pooing at home for whatever reason, that's entirely their choice; but they have no right whatsoever to seek to control or shame others who are perfectly content to use purpose-designed public/work toilet facilities whenever they need to go for a poo.

It makes me think of pathetic adults who feel the need to look at what other people are eating and screw up their faces, make gagging sounds and declare it as "Yucky" - when nobody has remotely suggested that they should have to eat it. You do you; and let me do me.

That's what I wondered. I don't think I've ever been out for a meal where anyone announced what they were doing in the loo, except lads saying they need to make space for more pints when they were already a few in.

I wondered that too. Presumably she monitored the amount of time he was away and believed it to be more than he'd need just for a wee; or another male companion went at the same time and felt the need to pass comment on it when they returned to rhe table?
