Sick of people on weight loss jabs saying you still have to “put in the work” with wl jabs

I’ve lost a fair amount of weight naturally this year. It’s been hellish as I’m fairly sure I have some sort of psychological reliance on comfort eating. I asked a couple of people I know if they recommend I go on WL jabs for the last stretch as I have lost momentum and am stagnating but could probably still do with losing another 20 pounds. They always say well “WL jabs still elan you have to put in the work. The fat doesn’t evaporate”. I’m sorry but WHAT. The injections are doing the hard bit for you. Ie stopping you from wanting to shovel large amounts of unhealthy food in your gob. It’s very annoying. I see this comment online all the time too.

I definitely do not have an issue with people on WL jabs. I would use them too but I am saving up for a mummy makeover so have chosen to save my money as a SAHM.

Very defensive comments imo!

You honestly do have to put in work with the weight loss jabs tbh 🥺, its no miracle cure

2GreatFatSquirrels · 06/11/2025 13:42

WLI haven’t stopped me wanting to eat lots of crappy food at all. They do stop me being ravenously hungry - but they haven’t stopped my cravings or desire for more from an emotional standpoint.

But it suppresses your appetite which 99% of the issue…

Im not claiming you can stuff your face and still lose weight but it stops the food cravings

So you’ve never taken them, have no idea what the side effects are, or what taking the injections involve, but you’re fully confident to say it’s easy?

tryingtobesogood · 06/11/2025 13:43

"I definitely do not have an issue with people on WL jabs"

Think you do!! And that is fine, we can't all like everything people say or do, but don't pretend you don't have a problem.

Plind · 06/11/2025 13:44

Well a lot of people say it removes food noise which is what is THE main issue for comfort eaters like myself

I genuinely don’t as I would have taken them myself if my budget allowed

I agree with you. I am currently taking Wegovy and have really struggled to come off (I am now upping my dose again until I reach my goal). I have worked on implementing good habits and I’m already super active but when off the injections the cravings/behaviours are so overwhelming compared to being on the jab.

It definitely doesn’t stop food cravings. It makes you physically ill if you eat the wrong things but it doesn’t stop you wanting them in the first place.

Coconutter24 · 06/11/2025 13:45

If WL jabs are so easy and do all the hard work for you then why are you asking for recommendations, from what you’ve said it must be easy to do?
I know people on them and they still get up and exercise, they still also have to think about the right stuff to eat

Minniliscious · 06/11/2025 13:45

Well I’ll admit that I lost 2 stone on Mounjaro with barely any effort whatsoever. Since I’ve changed to Wegovy though, effort is much needed!

crappycrapcrap · 06/11/2025 13:46

Yeah you’re right, I’m on the jabs and loosing weight because im not eating. I’d probably loose loads more if I ‘put the work in’ but right now I’m not. I just want to get some off for my mental health and so I feel able to exercise again.

So you’ve still had to put some effort in?

Pancakeorcrepe · 06/11/2025 13:47

OP you are right but you’ll get lots of comments of people on the jab saying they still have to put the work in. It is an entirely different ballgame in terms of effort

Plind · 06/11/2025 13:47

the main mechanism for WL jabs is not nausea putting you off food. Weight loss injections work by mimicking hormones that regulate appetite making you feel fuller and reducing hunger.

Nausea is a side effect but not the main thing

I'm on them and yes it does cut some food noise out but you still have to make sensible decisions
In fact, at times it's harder because I'm not hungry but have to eat to fuel myself as I'm at the gym 5 days a week. I've strength trained from day 1 of WLI and thankfully don't have the sag and great tone but that is a lot of work in itself. The weight hasn't magically just evaporated off either.

LoisGriffinskitchen · 06/11/2025 13:48

Plind · 06/11/2025 13:44

Well a lot of people say it removes food noise which is what is THE main issue for comfort eaters like myself

So what’s your issue. You absolutely DO have to address your reasons for eating alongside them. Unless you do you’ll regain.
I’ve lost 4stv 8lbs the “old fashioned way” but a lot of that had meant looking at why I eat. I’d still have to do that on WLI if I could afford them .

WLI are just an aid which makes WL a bit (or a lot) easier. Once you don’t take them the reasons you ate are still there so unless you’ve put the work in you will regain.

Ruthietuthie · 06/11/2025 13:48

So, this clearly varies by person, BUT for me (75 lb down, maintaining that weight for a year, at least a stone lower than I ever thought possible for me) I did NO work on WLI.
When I was dieting, I thought constantly about food, battled feeling hunger, and often ended up binge eating. If there was "bad" food in the house, I would think about it constantly and often end up eating the whole packet until I felt sick. It was deeply unhealthy and never successful in the long run.
On WLI, I did not count calories, just ate (protein first, but nothing much different beyond that) what I felt like, stopping when I felt I didn't want more. I lost consistently and have maintained.
Maybe my case is unusual? But there is a reason that people (like me) who have struggled with diets for years are now losing weight like they never did before.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 06/11/2025 13:48

The injections are doing the hard bit for you. Ie stopping you from wanting to shovel large amounts of unhealthy food in your gob

I’m assuming you got fat by putting unhealthy food in your gob!

The injections don’t stop you wanting to eat unhealthy, they suppress your appetite so you feel fuller sooner, so your not eating excessively with balanced and nutritious meals, you still have to work hard to lose the weight, the injections don’t do that for you.

People have been on the injections and not lost anything because the misconception is that the jabs will do the work, news flash it doesn’t!

I'm sorry your finding your weight loss journey difficult but don't bash others because your failing to lose the weight for your difficulties around food!

Cardiaga · 06/11/2025 13:49

I'd say that there is no single version of 'the work' here. Some people its controlling food noise, others getting active, others tackling emotional eating, others stopping eating too large portions, and still others having to negotiate others expectations of them. WL injections can help with some of these but not all, and the won't help everyone consistently

alqggapwbnch · 06/11/2025 13:49

Ha it does make me laugh when people say they need to put in work for them, they won’t change your habits without effort sure, but my friend went on them and she lost all the weight (and some) in months, she will say herself no effort! (That said she is happy to eat healthily, but it just stopped her binging crap) She gave me a low dose pen when she was weaning off and despite being healthy BMI and it not really changing my eating habits much (low dose) I still lost 7lb in a month (I think I actually lost 10lb by the time I finished eeking it out around 6-7 weeks).

I’d love to be able to buy it when I need to drop a few lbs! People are so shaming about it, but it’s fine when celebs do it.

gallivantsaregood · 06/11/2025 13:49

As a mounjaro user, I actually agree with you @Plind. This is the easiest weightloss journey I've ever experienced!

Have I changed my eating habits? Yes. Do I move more? Also yes. But the voodoo magic that is Mounjaro means I don't actually want to eat the chocolate, crisps and other calorie laden food. I choose to eat salad... I mean that's not actually me! I'd never just choose salad. I'm also counting calories, but again it's not an effort to do it.

So while you have to make changes to lose weight, I do believe there is something in the medication that totally changes your brain function around food and exercise to promote healthier choices.

Sasssquatch · 06/11/2025 13:49

I’m on WLI and today I’m tired and stressed and I just ate two packets of crisps one after the other so I’m in the “not magic” camp

Cardiaga · 06/11/2025 13:51

Jesus! That is properly dangerous @alqggapwbnch ! You shouldn't share meds like that
