Sick of people on weight loss jabs saying you still have to “put in the work” with wl jabs

I’ve lost a fair amount of weight naturally this year. It’s been hellish as I’m fairly sure I have some sort of psychological reliance on comfort eating. I asked a couple of people I know if they recommend I go on WL jabs for the last stretch as I have lost momentum and am stagnating but could probably still do with losing another 20 pounds. They always say well “WL jabs still elan you have to put in the work. The fat doesn’t evaporate”. I’m sorry but WHAT. The injections are doing the hard bit for you. Ie stopping you from wanting to shovel large amounts of unhealthy food in your gob. It’s very annoying. I see this comment online all the time too.

I definitely do not have an issue with people on WL jabs. I would use them too but I am saving up for a mummy makeover so have chosen to save my money as a SAHM.

Very defensive comments imo!

It definitely doesn’t stop food cravings. It makes you physically ill if you eat the wrong things but it doesn’t stop you wanting them in the first place.

Which ones? I've done Mounjaro and Wegovy and that is categorically NOT how they work.

@Plind I'm sorry you're feeling annoyed about this. I've lost about 5 stone on the aforementioned jabs. I have been overweight for 20 years, and morbidly obese for at least 4. I just cannot lose on my own. Without the jabs, my every waking moment is spent thinking of food. What I can eat, when I can eat, how I can maximise my calories and still feel both full and happy about what I'm eating. I would constantly be falling off the wagon when I stalled or plateaued because of this - hence why it was always one step forward, two steps back. With the jabs, I still eat crisps and chocolate on occasion, but it is on occasion, and not just when I'm bored, sad, or having an entire family bag to myself while watching tv.

(I'm not trying to make excuses btw, I recognise this is entirely my fault - but that doesn't mean I can overcome it alone. Folk seem a lot more forgiving when it's drug or cigarette or alcohol addiction that someone is actively trying to overcome).

If it's similar for you, then the jabs might work. But then, if you've only got 20lbs to lose, then you're probably within sight of a healthy BMI I would have thought? You may not be approved.

the main mechanism for WL jabs is not nausea putting you off food. Weight loss injections work by mimicking hormones that regulate appetite making you feel fuller and reducing hunger.

Nausea is a side effect but not the main thing

You’re not even on them and you’re telling me how it feels?

it sounds like you’re just jealous really - perhaps instead of having a “mummy makeover” 🤢 you should give a whirl then judge it

Plind · 06/11/2025 13:52

Ive lost a significant amount of weight after back to back pregnancies but it’s been very difficult. I have had days where I’ve packed the whole thing in as I couldn’t stand the deprivation. If I just bloody stopped craving the bad stuff then it would be a whole lot easier.

What effort is there if you no longer have the compulsion to over eat??

I dunno but the pancreas is not to be fucked with. That’s my view on WLI.

That, and I think there is a lot of defensiveness from users who don’t like to be seen as taking a short cut.

understand how they work…

That is 100% not my experience. I eat all types of food from healthy to Chinese, Indian takeaway, kebabs. No food has made me ill. But I don't crave them. Actually, I generally don't even think about them. I have chocolate orange in my fridge. It's been there since August. Never in the history of me pre-mj would that have been there even 2 days later.

WeCouldBeNiceToEachOther · 06/11/2025 13:55

Yet I still go to the gym 4 days a week, still count calories, still make sure I’m hitting my macros and make sure I’m eating in a deficit and find time at the weekend to make sure I’m exercising

Nandina · 06/11/2025 13:55

OP, you just sound bitter and resentful that you can't afford the jabs.

curious79 · 06/11/2025 13:55

From what you describe of yourself, you’ve already put in the hard work but without the benefit of not having a crazy appetite with it.

People stall losing weight on weight loss jabs because they still manage to shove food in. They can be incredibly sick which makes it unpleasant.

Plus, unless you want to be on them forever, what people are saying is you’ve got to get the right routine of food and exercise in place so that you don’t massively revert once

I think that’s what people are saying. But yes, you are right. Fundamentally, the urge to eat is taken away.

It probably would help you with that last 20. Massively. I had to come off them because they made me feel so ill. I will never touch them again.

Floraflower3 · 06/11/2025 13:55

Coconutter24 · 06/11/2025 13:46

So you’ve still had to put some effort in?

Yes I’ve put in work but honestly like the OP said I feel like the WLI does the majority of the work for me. I already ate pretty well but had issues with calorific snacks/ eating too much. By not feeling hungry I don’t snack anywhere near as much and my portions are much better which meant the weight easily dropped off.

Luckyingame · 06/11/2025 13:55

Very brave, OP.
👏
And no, I don't know a thing about them.

TerrierSlave · 06/11/2025 13:56

I kind of agree. I've lost six stone on them, and it was way easier than any other form of weight loss I've tried in the past, but you know what? I do still feel like eating chocolate and crisps and stuff every day, and I still have to fight it every day. I've still had the occasional binge even, so it certainly hasn't turned off all the food noise for me, but it's obvious done something!

Cosyblackcatonbed · 06/11/2025 13:56

Agree OP, I find it annoying when people try to take credit for what a drug is making significantly easier. If they have to "put the work in" then why can't they just put the work in without the drug and lose it naturally? Oh yes, because it SO much harder.

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 06/11/2025 13:56

Pancakeorcrepe · 06/11/2025 13:47

OP you are right but you’ll get lots of comments of people on the jab saying they still have to put the work in. It is an entirely different ballgame in terms of effort

So what though? Nobody is giving you a medal. I can afford it, I’ll be healthier for it, why wouldn’t I do it a way that has a greater chance of success?
I’m doing it for me, I’ve lost weight the old fashioned way and put it back on and now I’m doing it this way. I honestly am mystified anyone gives a shit.

Thistooshallpass. · 06/11/2025 13:57

Have to say I agree with you . As a perimenopausal woman post 50 I have to work really hard to keep my weight where I want it . Losing even a couple of pounds is really hard work - strength training , calorie counting , maxing protein intake , other exercise Pilates , walking , yoga . It takes time , effort , discipline and commitment. So yes I do think the jabs are an easier option ! But I’d never be eligible as it’s just a few pounds that I have to work so hard at .

weericky · 06/11/2025 13:57

I’m sick of people with your attitude tbh.

i don’t gaf how anyone improves their health, not sure why you do?

Wouldn’t you have a mummy makeover after losing the weight first?

HermioneWeasley · 06/11/2025 13:58

What’s a “mummy makeover”?

queenofwandss · 06/11/2025 13:59

OP you don’t know what it’s like to be on them so YABU to say people who have taken them are wrong about their experience.

I do all of that, plus I take the jabs so I don’t lose focus and eat garbage. If “it’s only a few pounds” for you, you and I do not have the same problem. For you it’s cosmetic, for
me it’s medical.

I think you might well benefit from the jabs. I'm an emotional eater. I also eat when I'm bored, when I think about chocolate. Before MJ I was eating a 1kg jar of Nutella a month...with a spoon. If I was stressed, I'd reach fior it, crave all sorts of crap and just keep putting stuff in my mouth.

Since MJ I've experienced several periods of very high stress and haven't even thought about going for the Nutella or other stuff.

So, it might be worth a try.

Dozycuntlaters · 06/11/2025 14:00

Everyone is different and I certainly had to put the work in. I never went up to a high dose and although it did help a lot with the food noise, I still had some and I never had the suppression that people seems to chase. I think for me I stuck to it because it was so expensive, but i would have been able to fall off the wagon pretty easily if I didnt stay focused. Ive lost almost 6 stone and it was bloody hard work and although I'm not on the jab anymore, its still hard work.

I won't have anyone tell me I've lost 6 stone easily because it wasn't. Yeah probably a little easier because I was on the WLI's but yeah, still a bloody slog.

Prelim · 06/11/2025 14:01

Im on the highest strength Wegovy. On Saturday I ate a chocolate bar for breakfast, large packet of crisps for lunch, a lot of alcohol (cocktails, wine, etc., out for a friends big birthday), steak, chips, bearnaise sauce, kale with Parmesan, chocolate cake.

It doesn’t work the same way for everyone, so I really have to work at it. Every day is a struggle, obviously I try not to eat like that every day, it was a special occasion, but I definitely can if I want to! It’s actually increased my appetite for junk food. I used to a lot of vegetables and protein, but now I crave junk (albeit in smaller quantities). I’ve. I really appetite for vegetables at the moment, just calorie dense food. I have lost weight these last 20months I had been in it, but it’s been by no means easy.

Plind · 06/11/2025 14:01

I don’t begrudge people using them but why can’t some people on the jabs just acknowledge that the hardest part of weight loss (food cravings as a result of deprivation? Is basically taken out of the equation.

Im not jealous. I’d be on them in a heartbeat but im a SAHM and have chosen to spend my disposable income elsewhere
