I bought 3 tickets to a show this weekend, for me & DD + a friend of her choice. I paid for them all (£50+ each) but told the mum of invited friend that I didn’t want any contribution. All good.

Now the friend unfortunately can’t make it (legit reason). I mentioned that I’d probably be able to sell ticket as it’s very popular, so no worries (as it happens, another friend has accepted a late invite).

The mum of original invitee asked me to transfer the cost of the ticket to her, so she can treat her DD for missing out.

Eh??

I mean that’s batshit, right?

What ??? Cf is a understatement

5128gap · 06/11/2025 14:02

"I think you've misunderstood CF. The tickets were a gift from me to DD so she could bring your DD with her. I'm going to use the money I get back on DD"

Dear CheekyFucker. Your daughter’s attendance on this trip was as an accompanying friend to my daughter, to heighten her enjoyment of this show as a shared experience with a peer. As such, I was prepared to cover the cost of all three tickets which was a total spend of £150 plus associated fees.

When I discussed selling the ticket it was to expunge any guilt you or your daughter may have felt towards the ticket being unused, fortunately the ticket has now been given to an alternative friend and the girls are looking forward to their trip on X date.
I hope that explains the situation more clearly.
Kind regards,
JefftheSquirrel

Why have you worded this like a Solicitor’s letter?!?!? Please tell me you don’t go speaking to people like this in day to day life?!?

It's ridiculous isn't it, like chatgpt had a stroke.

SummerHouse · 06/11/2025 14:11

I think "no" about covers it.

But I am intrigued as to this individuals state of mind so I would have to send a response that gleaned more fascinating insight into such levels of CF-ery.

"Can I transfer the money so you can treat your daughter for missing out? As lovely as this sounds I think that's probably for you to consider and fund as you see fit. This would be like turning down a wedding invite and asking for the cost of your meal. Please let me know if I have misread or misunderstood as I am surprised you have asked for this."

Yes, this, or end with 'dd's other friend will use the ticket'.

Shamefully place marking for an update. I actually gasped dramatically when I read the OP 😂

It's clearly tongue in cheek.

I have gif's on WhatsApp for the use with CF's.
Usually involving hand signals or elevated finger(s).

Instructions · 06/11/2025 14:13

Oh this is excellent. It's like if you had invited her daughter for a sleepover and her response was "sorry, can't make it, now send us the money for a hotel room for a night".

Moknicker · 06/11/2025 14:16

I would put the onus on her and say
huh? Not sure I understand this. Can you explain please.

nomas · 06/11/2025 14:16

randomgeneratedusername1 · 06/11/2025 12:38

Oh yes she is such a cf !!

I took my dd and her friend to a show last summer and said I would grab food for us all . My treat as dd’s birthday . Her friends mum messaged me and requested that as we were eating out it would have to be KFC and then sent me the usual meal option she enjoys ( enough for 2 I might add) as that’s her preference . No offer of money towards it and more to the point no thought as to my dd whose birthday it was 🤯.
This is why i don’t like people 😂

I hope you didn't buy it?

skyeisthelimit · 06/11/2025 14:16

"It is unfortunate that DD was unable to come this time, and hopefully she can join us at another event in the future. I am unable to just give you £50 to treat your DD as the ticket was paid for by myself for a friend to accompany our DD, and is now being used by someone else".

”Are you misremembering- I know you kindly offered to pay for the ticket but I said I’d cover the cost so there’s nothing to reimburse. If it’s me who is confused and you did twist my arm to give me the money then obviously I’ll send it back to you! I’m constantly transferring money around for one thing or another so it’s easy to lose track!”

I realise I misread the OP and thought she said the CF offered to pay initially but actually I am probably wrong there. OP said she made it clear she didn’t want money for the tickets but not whether or not it was offered.

You’re more polite than I would be!

Purplebunnie · 06/11/2025 14:22

I don't know what is keeping me more in suspense, the outcome of Celebrity Traitors or the CF mom's response (not sure if that is grammatically correct but you get the gist)

On tenterhooks here

Viobioscore48 · 06/11/2025 14:23

This is crazyyyyyyyy. Please PLEASE tell us how she responds, if at all. Unbelievable!! I am agog!

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 06/11/2025 14:23

Hi friend, if you want to treat your daughter with something equivalent then you’ll need to fund it. My offer was to let you use the ticket I’d purchased, if you were able to attend.

TamarindCottage · 06/11/2025 14:24

Me too, @Purplebunnie

HappyHunting101 · 06/11/2025 14:28

Either she thinks she paid for it or she thinks you got them for free and you're now making a profit. Anything else is absolutely crazy. Please message her and tell us the response.
