I bought 3 tickets to a show this weekend, for me & DD + a friend of her choice. I paid for them all (£50+ each) but told the mum of invited friend that I didn’t want any contribution. All good.

Now the friend unfortunately can’t make it (legit reason). I mentioned that I’d probably be able to sell ticket as it’s very popular, so no worries (as it happens, another friend has accepted a late invite).

The mum of original invitee asked me to transfer the cost of the ticket to her, so she can treat her DD for missing out.

Yes, I was thinking about the OP suggesting that CF owed her a "late cancellation" fee.

I would love to know what is going on in the CFs head. Is the an alternative CFery universe where she thinks you are being unbelievably U for stealing £50 from her? Or is she aware she is a CF and is just brazen about it?

How absolutely baffling that she would think she’s owed money. If you were invited to someone’s wedding and originally said yes and then had to cancel you, you wouldn’t ask them to give you the money it would have cost to feed and entertain you for the day so you could treat yourself else where!!

Definately a CF but maybe she thinks that as the ticket was a gift to her daughter that her daughter owns it now regardless of whether or not she could attend?

This is so weird, does she think her daughter paid your DD for the ticket? If not she’s an absolute Chicken Fucker!

CF really hasn’t thought this through. Even if she had paid you for the ticket, why would you be refunding her if her daughter suddenly can’t go? It’s not up to you to cover the loss. Same as if she bought the ticket from the box office. You don’t get refunded if you are subsequently unable to go.

the thing is, even if you had gifted her child the ticket and she couldn’t go, if you couldn’t find anyone else to buy/use the ticket and if you had to give the friends daughter another £50- you’d be £100 out of pocket instead of £50! It’s madness. I can’t understand what’s happening in the CF brain to think that’s acceptable

This reminds me of an AITAH thread where a woman was kindly giving free swimming lessons to a few kids in her spare time and another mum found out and demanded she teach HER child for free too but on another day that suited them! When the teacher said no, it's my only free time to do it and it's free, the other mum kicked off about how unfair it was and how the other kids were getting something that her child was being denied, becoming really abusive to the poor woman doing everyone a favour. I think some people genuinely believe they are owed everything by the rest of the world!
