‘Just the meat for me please’ Sunday Lunch issue ’

Mondaytuesdayhappydays · 05/11/2025 13:47

SIS and BIL coming for Sunday Lunch, bringing DN and her BF- recently engaged.
Got a little gift for them and card etc, my parents were coming any way so invited Sunday for food as makes sense.

SIS has just WhatsApped to say jokingly that the BF -mega gym bunny - ‘doesn’t do potatoes and trimmings- but don’t worry he’ll just pile his plate high with meat’
Im doing a couple chickens and a gammon between us all so plenty for everyone alongside stuffing, veg, Yorkies , gravey, cauliflower cheese etc but definitely not for a huge piled up plate of just meat!

I replied lightheartedly to SIS to this effect and she’s not a happy camper at all.
Just texted to say wants him to feel welcome so will bring him a couple of raw pork chops or similar to fry - I’ve said bring them cooked and sliced already in a Tupperware as I won’t be frying chops with all the carnage of the roast going on and my parents milling about under my feet ‘helping’

Shes voice noting at the moment can see the symbol
honestly am I just old or a shit hostess or is this how guests who barely know their hosts I might add expect to be catered for ???

I mean veggie/vegan all power to you
but a plate piled up of meat for lunch seems a bit full on to me ??

I think you were rude. If a guest was GF surely you’d cater for them, I don’t see how this is any different? Just buy a bit extra meat so there’s enough to go round.

Meat is the most expensive part of the meal. He would be greedy to expect to have most of it.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/11/2025 00:17

So this was all her Mum’s weird take after all! Bonkers.

Bluedenimdoglover · 07/11/2025 05:18

Meat and plain veg, no potatoes - either that or they bring his own ready cooked chicken. Honestly - plateful of meat!

SatsumaDog · 07/11/2025 05:23

So he’s not demanding anything then. A lot of fuss about nothing.

Rhodie72 · 07/11/2025 06:56

My sympathies lie with OP. A guest is expected to eat what's put in front of them. Unless there's a health issue/veggie/vegan coming to eat.
The OP is not a restaurant, it's family coming over for a meal. Any weird 'meat only' diets should then provide for themselves. End of.

landlordhell · 07/11/2025 06:59

Yes he can have meat only but only the same portion as everybody else .

ACynicalDad · 07/11/2025 07:04

Tim of dog meat coming right up.

Emilygilmoreshandbag · 07/11/2025 07:05

Thats absolutely nuts. Adults who choose to eat high protein don’t need catering to.
His options are to choose from the food available and not eat more than his fair share of any one item, or he goes off his diet for one meal which wont do him any harm (and actually might boost his metabolism).
If he is worried he will be hungry he can eat a couple of packets of ham on the way to your house!

Sounds like a good way to get constipation tbh- no vegetables at all?? Not even the green ones?

Amy454 · 07/11/2025 07:06

He’ll likely be an insufferable bore so I wouldn’t worry too much about upsetting him.

I have a close friend who is an elite athlete. He is a household name right at the top of his sport. He of course eats well and trains a lot but would never be as ridiculous as this.

Oh my goodness, he has every woman fixing his needs.

He certainly does! Why oh why are all the women - GF, Gfs mum and GFs aunt - pandering to this man’s weird eating habits?
The only thing you need to know is if a guest has any allergies, any absolute dislikes or is vegetarian / vegan.
Not liking vegetables and wanting a ridiculous amount of protein to fit in with a diet cult is not something I’d be specifically catering for. He’d get the same as everyone else with a side order of a tin of corned beef if he wanted more meat!

I'm not that mean but I would have a couple of tins of Spam and corned beef near his plate.

I absolutely agree. Why has fussiness become a virtue?

plot twist -
DD wants to come too with two of her little ones.
DH has to pop into to work Sunday morning to collect something for Monday.

will be them now with salad, coleslaw n garlic bread

my mum is bringing treacle tarts she made lol

carb fest now I’m afraid.

I don’t know, I think I would be mortified if everyone knew I have the palette of a caveman. It’s only one meal and he can stop at a carvery on the way home.

DancingFerret · 07/11/2025 12:34

I enjoy hosting and feeding people, but if someone said they just wanted meat, as opposed to the meat, which sounds as if the want everyone else's share (I know that's daft), they would receive the same serving of meat as everyone else and it would be up to them if they want to add vegetables, etc, to their plate.

I take what people say at face value.😙

Where are these carvery’s serving unlimited meat??

normally it’s a very surly, hot sweaty fed up chef doling out 4 thin slices of one meat or two each of two different ones?

It's no wonder that men become so bloody selfish and entitled when women go to so much trouble to facilitate their every whim, no matter how bonkers it is. In OP's place, I'd have simply acknowledged the BF's fetish for extra meat and carried on precisely as before. He would have been served the same plate of food as everyone else, to eat or leave, as he chose. Think it's hilarious that the roast is now off and he'll have to eat pasta and garlic bread - he deserves nothing less!

PlumpHobbit · 07/11/2025 14:23

DN at least sounds polite as she's suggested bringing the meringue nests to make the pudding more exciting for everyone else.

Going to be interesting seeing him rock up clutching his avocado

Just seen your update, why am I envisioning him scraping his cannelloni tubes out so he only has the meat!

His avocado and home made mayo will be great to add to the salad for everyone 😁

Well, possibly - was OP expecting them to bring pudding for everyone, though, or is this a pudding takeover?

I used to work with a lot of elite athletes and they all carried tins of tuna and beans around to top up when they needed to. Used to be a long lasting saga of who was the last person to see the tine opener in the communal kitchen....

Why do I feel this post about the entitled ravenous meat eating gym bunny coming to lunch, is going to live on in the memories of MN users like the screamer of the sistene chapel😄

I think I get far too invested in these stories 🤦‍♀️🤣
