Someone who’s passionate, young and willing to break the rules in politics, all while caring about his city and the people in it. I wish we had someone like that here.

I thought insulting big chunks of an electorate was generally agreed to be counterproductive?

What demographic is being insulted here? The writer is saying that 20 and 30 something adults based in New York have invested time and money heavily into their educations and have graduated into a stagnant job market that cannot adequately reward their efforts or sustain the cost of living in the city, leaving many feeling overqualified, underpaid, and uncertain about their future prospects. I think this is generally accepted as fact, based on the available evidence.

And they are ripe for exploitation by shysters like Mamdami.

This article seems to be as short on facts as it Is long on calling people names.

You think the writer is calling people names? Where exactly? Because he says that 20 and 30 somethings are over educated and underemployed? He’s describing a socioeconomic trend / labor market issue; he’s being analytical, not pejorative.

If you disagree with his conclusions, the more productive approach would be to offer a counterargument rather than dismissing the analysis entirely (that is, if you can).

There's no analysis, and no argument to counter 😆 It's just a string of hyperbolic insults!

I don't even know much about Zohran Mamdani- I was just struck by what a terrible piece of journalism it was.

Racists gonna hate.

YANBU

Pity he never thought that when taking funding under the guise of being " African American", knowing that in the US that term means " Black person".
Worse, the wretch comes from financial privilege.
But carry on......

Zach Goldsmith and Zach Polanski are two very different people being confused on this thread.

Ah! Must admit, was stunned when I read that Zac Goldsmith was now a member of the Greens and being praised too!

Zach Goldsmith was the opposite of breaking the mould. Old Etonian, son of a billionaire, married a Rothschild, stood for the Conservatives.

You mean Zach Polanski.

I thought I'd missed one hell of an about turn

I live in Florida and we're bracing for a huge influx of the wealthy out of NYC. Miami is already the US' #2 financial capital. A few years of "free" stuff in NYC and Wall St. will entirely relocate to here.

Socialists forget that money is fungible.

Edited

LOL. Literally none of the CEOs want to live in Florida. They want their 3 weeks a year homes to be in Florida. They can't deal with the heat in Manhattan in the summer, they will NEVER be relocating to Miami full time.

Should we just overlook his blatant antisemitism?!😬

Have you ever been to New York? Maybe have a look at the demographic and how many Jewish people are supporting him.

He isn’t anti semetic because he criticises Israel.

I can imagine that happening.
America seems more pro active when someone is fucking up so I can’t imagine he will be allowed to continue for long if he causes that much of a shit show.

Ozgirl76 · 04/11/2025 02:18

The fundamental problem with any hard left party/candidate is that they actively dislike wealthy people, and yet completely rely on them to fund their policies.
I think it’s fine to hope that the rich will fund policies, but much like the current Labour Party, the wealthy will be less inclined to do so when they can feel the ire and dislike of them. This was something the Blair govt managed extremely well, this delicate balance of taxing the rich whilst not pissing them off so much that they up sticks and move.

Ozgirl76 · 04/11/2025 02:20

Going back to Mamdani, if he can improve things, it would be great. NYC is not doing well for normal working people and if he can help to improve this, fab. But we can’t judge him yet, all he’s done is say things, he hasn’t put them into place yet. Let’s see how things are going after a year or so.

Even running a campaign that’s not based on hatred and division is a breath of fresh air.

Wait, antisemitism and divisive communitarian and sectarian politics is a breath of fresh air? Well you have so many in UK for that, starting with your Gaza MPs and the shambolic Your Party, not to mention the execrable Greens. He is young, handsome and someone you want to shag? Be honest now.

The poll found that 43% of Jewish voters in the US city said they would vote for Mamdani, including 67% of Jewish voters aged 18 to 44. Cuomo trailed with 26% of Jewish voters, followed by Mayor Eric Adams with 15%.

Liberal jews are as stupid as anyone else. The rest of the ballot is unvotable.

LostInManhattan · 03/11/2025 18:32

Because he said he’d focus on New York and not Israel? As New York mayor? That’s not antisemitism 😂

Yes and that is why he has been running off his mouth non-stop on a mixed bag of Muslim Causes (tm). That is why he blamed the IDF for police brutality in NY.

Anyway Mamdani will win in NY and disappoint the useful idiots by either pivoting to run of the mill moderate policies and thus not fulfilling his bread and roses promises OR actually try to run his crazy policies and bankrupt the city. I wonder how his fans will feel in 4 years.

Being anti Zionist doesn’t make you hateful

I think it ABSOLUTELY does. Why do you think the jewish people do not deserve a state of their own?

Oh hahahaha! Sorry I was very tired when I posted that!!! Omg!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Ticktockk · 04/11/2025 05:56

AhWeNoss · 03/11/2025 23:29

Are you forgetting his mayoral campaign and the way he exploited racial tensions when attacking Khan personally?

He shows his true colours then.

You mean when he pointed out that he’s a fascist?
and sorry for being a (tired) tool and writing goldsmith instead of Polanski 🤣

Ticktockk · 04/11/2025 05:59

I’m so embarrassed I wrote Goldsmith!!! I’ve got to stop posting in the evening 😂 I’m an actual member of the green party 😂😂

PevenseygirlQQ · 03/11/2025 23:15

I am still not understanding what have the awful attacks in Manchester got to do with Mamdani?
Just because he is pro-pal doesn’t mean he has anything to do with a movement that wants to kill Jews?!

Globalise the intifada is about killing Jews, around the world. Wow you're making a meal of this. Go back to the very beginning of the conversation.

SharonEllis · 04/11/2025 06:11

SomeoneSomewheree · 03/11/2025 23:13

I wonder if you are aware that even American Jewish people have voted for him? *shock horror

Obviously I am aware! Are you aware that all Jewish people don't think the same thing?

DdraigGoch · 04/11/2025 06:14

LostInManhattan · 03/11/2025 18:42

it does make me laugh that the things people say against him are like, “he wants to make the buses free which means more people will use them!!”

The reason for people not using buses is generally nothing to do with the cost, and more to do with poor service. The money would be better targeted at improving the service (including installing bus lanes and arranging signal priority).

Daisymay8 · 04/11/2025 06:15

This reminds me of the Trans debate - say anything about Trans people and your transphobic - say anything about women and it's fine, say anything about Jewish people and your antisemitic, say anything about Muslims, Christians and it's just another day.

millymollymoomoo · 04/11/2025 06:41

You have got to be fecking kidding me !
Watch him destroy New York ( and he will) then come back and say you think it’s good

He s a nasty piece of work... can t bring himself to condemn the torturers of Hamas who burnt kids to death ( before any retaliation by Israel). I saw the clip of him outside a mosque faking emotion ( lots of theatrical pauses and swallowing) ' in the memory of his aunt'. He went on to say how 9 11 affected this aunt ( whose existence some have doubted) as she was worried about wearing her hijab on the New York subway, Not a word about the 3000 New Yorkers who were killed by Islamists that day ... in his own city!
He will sow division, he s a taker of sides not a bridge builder

Why overlook the 3000 who died, it seems cruel.

He’ll likely win so it’ll be interesting to eee if people feel things improve in the way they want.

Neemie · 04/11/2025 07:51

I wonder what caused his change of heart over the police? Does he actually think they are a racist, homophobic bunch of arseholes who should be defunded or was that just good populist stuff to gain support? Now that he actually needs the NYPD, he has conveniently decided that bunging in a few community support workers with diversity training will sort out the problem.

According to some journalists he is wonderful as he has demonstrated that he is willing to change his position. I think it is more likely that underneath the charisma he is just another shifty man with a lot of personal ambition.
