Boyfriend sent me a video

I've started to date a new guy (he's not my boyfriend) and he sent me a video which was supposed to be taken at 6am in the morning (he sent it late afternoon).

It was taken when he was in bed (no not sexual) and what caught my eye is that it was light outaide. The light was shining on the TV screen in his room. He has those office type blinds vertical style.

The video was black and white in style, so it wasn't bright in the room, I just find it bizarre the winwod were so bright.

He stated his son woke him up at 6am and he took a video of him singing. I just found it weird the windows looked so bright.

Is it really bright at 6am? I thought it wasn't bright until 7ish.

(He is staying he's tired from being up early etc and can't meet, which is fine but it looks so bright outside that I instantly thought the video wasnt taken at night. I've just got a feeling it's not quite right)

Anyone up at 6am and van confirm on the room brightness

So have you dumped him and blocked and deleted his number or not?

sillyme1234 · 31/10/2025 11:46

SleeplessInWherever · 31/10/2025 11:32

You might.

My son woke us up at 1:06am and 5:15am this morning. Nobody actually got out of bed properly until 7:35.

Do you have children? Sometimes we get them to do things in their own room for as long as is humanly possible so their day doesn’t start with a bang at 5am.

It was in his room. His bed.

I don't follow, do people not allow their toddlers to climb into the adults bed with them these days?

Erm, yes?

We don’t move our son into our bed anymore because he’s 9, but when he was younger he’d spend the first few hours in our bed watching stuff on his iPad or whatever and then we’d all get up.

That’s fairly normal behaviour.

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 31/10/2025 11:59

Sounds odd, and I think your instincts are telling you something.
As you weren’t planning to meet up that evening why did he bother to send you the video, I would suspect he accidentally sent to you rather than someone else. Also sounds like he has dodgy boundaries sending you images of his DC when you’re not even in a proper relationship.
I think he may have just being trying to impress you with his cuteness as a father, do you have kids yourself?
And a grown man not being able to cope with a 5am start is weird.

ProudCat · 31/10/2025 11:59

How do you know the light reflecting from his TV screen was daylight? What if it's a street lamp? What if he's got a light source in the room?

Could well be. But the window was mighty bright.

Also he doesn't have a street light outside his house

Yes I do.

Yes I've just got a bad feeling about this

Maybe there's a street light or some other light source outside. If it was a black and white video are you 100% certain it was daylight?

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it. I wouldn't go pecking his head about it either. You'll drive yourself nuts and he'll probably think you're nuts. He's just a bloke you're dating, don't overthink it.

Digdongdoo · 31/10/2025 12:03

OP you can obviously dump him for whatever reason you want, in fact you dont even need a reason.
But nitpicking over light through a window and whether a toddler would still be in bed is odd. Just move along.

No thanks. He's blocked

Ah, just saw your post saying there's no street light. It could have been a vehicle or anything really. I get all sorts of weird and wonderful shadows and random lights across my walls at night. If it's in the right position, even the moon can change the look of my room.

Grammarnut · 31/10/2025 12:05

I am awake at 6 a.m. It's bright. But why are you thinking about this? It's a video of his son. You sound a bit controlling OP.

Elektra1 · 31/10/2025 12:05

If I were you and had concluded that the video couldn’t have been taken at 6am (with which I agree at this time of year), I would then conclude that he doesn’t want to see you today for whatever reason and rather than give you the real reason, he’s made this up as the reason. You can decide what you do with that.

Elektra1 · 31/10/2025 12:06

I definitely wouldn’t tell him I’d gone Miss Marple on light levels and know he’s lying. I’d just decide whether to see him again or not.

Happyjoe · 31/10/2025 12:07

Black and white video - you can't tell if it's natural light or a streetlight.
If the camera is good quality, it will capture low light as good, strong light too.

I think you may have trust issues, perhaps at times with good reason, I don't know . Please work on yourself before starting relationships.

ClarasSisters · 31/10/2025 12:08

It was bright here (south west) at 6:20 if that's any help @sillyme1234? Good half hour before the MetOffice says sunrise was.

You don't believe him though and there's clearly other things going on so not really sure why you asked.

MyFlabbersAreGasted · 31/10/2025 12:18

sillyme1234 · 31/10/2025 11:02

Why would you not have black out curtains and have office blinds

Now this would require you to do some critical thinking now, but have you considered not everybody minds natural light and doesn't need or want curtains or blinds?

MysticChevron · 31/10/2025 12:18

Dependent on what sorts of phones you each have, you could try saving the video to your camera roll and checking the time/date stamp from there. I have in the past confirmed someone was full of shit via this method. Regardless, sounds like you’re well rid. Best of luck X

I think it would save it the time and day I received it?

Not necessarily. As I say, it depends. Worth a go though? 🤷🏻‍♀️

If he’s got an iPhone it should tell you the day, time, phone and camera it was taken on.

Unless he used Snapchat, I don’t think it does then. If he used his main camera app, it’ll have that information.

Quite why you’d be bothered enough to check is beyond me, but it does do it.

Ratafia · 31/10/2025 12:27

Goodness, MN has some deeply unpleasant people coming on it in the small hours. This thread features a few.

Catstersdoggs · 31/10/2025 12:28

I think go with your gut OP.

I think it tells us things.

BlueandPinkSwan · 31/10/2025 12:28

HedwigEliza · 31/10/2025 00:06

And this is a problem…. why?

I’d advise him to run. You sound incredibly hard work and a massive over-thinker. He’s best steering clear.

OP you really have to ask why peeps are puzzled by this aibu. It's really obvious to the rest of us as the above quote says.
