Do you ever think that kissing is strange?

Im single. I go on dates now and then. Over the last two years, I have kissed three men. The men I've dated always want to kiss with tongues. I prefer to just kiss on the lips, no tongue.

After each of the last three men that I kissed with tongues, I got really badly sick afterwards. They passed something onto me..After kissing them, I got a cold, I had a sore throat, I was burning up. I was sick for avout five days each time.

It made me think , Isn't kissing with tongues such a strange thing to do. We use condoms for sex to protect us from infections.

The tongue is an absolute hotspot for all kinds of bad bacteria, yet society tells us its normal for a man to shove his tongue, unprotected into our mouth.

Im now seeing a new guy. He wants to kiss with tongues and I have refused. I will kiss on the lips only. I don't want to get sick again

I agree I have often thought it’s weird when watching movies, you eat with your mouth and tongue, so why should you rub tongues together with someone else!? But I guess it is just some kind of instinctive thing, that shows vulnerability, closeness etc, but agreed it is odd

HillOf · 29/10/2025 14:56

Stick a Durex on your tongue?

Pirating55 · 29/10/2025 14:56

Breathing next to someone is just as bad 😂

BertieBotts · 29/10/2025 14:59

There are dental dams, I suppose.

YANBU not to like kissing, not everyone does, tell them.

YABU to say kissing is gross because for someone who likes it, it feels fucking excellent Grin

BauhausOfEliott · 29/10/2025 15:00

Most of us manage to have a snog now and again without succumbing to the plague, so I think you're being a bit OTT about the level of risk. And if you're kissing someone on the lips, that's not really much different hygiene-wise than kissing with tongues. Their lips will have bacteria on them from their saliva.

Of course if you don't like kissing with tongues, you don't have to do it - nobody has to do anything they don't want to do sexually.

I think you'll need to accept that it's going to be a dealbreaker for a lot of potential partners, though.

I find it more and more grim the older I get.

Zenwalnut · 29/10/2025 15:02

What is your relationship history? Have you ever had a long term healthy relationship?

I do like kissing. Just without tongues.

Kissing on the lips is nice.
Its the men who always want to stick their tongue in ny mouth, and when i say i dont like it they think its weird. "Thats not a real kiss" etc etc.

Well i don't like the feel of someone elses tongue and i also don't want to get sick!

Yes I have had a long term relationship. Why is that relevant?

I’m early 50s and have been on my own 8 years and will probably stay that way because the thought of kissing someone, with tongues, turns my stomach now! 🤢 Yet I quite enjoyed it when I was younger.

JudgeBread · 29/10/2025 15:05

This is an intrusive thought I often get while mid snog with husband. It usually makes me start sniggering uncontrollably.

It is a weird thing to do but so are a lot of things humans do. I'm just relieved men aren't like tropical birds, poor Mr Bread would never get laid if he had to perform a fabulous dance to entice me every time he was in the mood.

He was the same as me. He liked kisses on the lips. Not tongues.

I think you lucked out in finding someone with your comparatively unusual preference.

Yes I wonder who first decided

" we are going to open our mouths and touch tongues together to show affection".

I wonder when it started!

I presume that a man invented it haha

I don't think its that unusual. I was chatting about it with my group of friends. A lot of them are not a fan of it either.

It was seen as a right of passage when younger ,

but many of them said that when they are in long term relationships they dont do it anymore. They kiss on the lips instead

I mean, I have kissed with tongues. When you're in the first throws of attraction it can be really nice. Once the relationship is long established though, it gives me the ick. Watching people kiss with tongues on tv is revolting and I have to look away and turn the volume down.

In the same vein, you could say oral sex is odd too. Why would you want to lick/suck the thing people pee out of? It's a very natural thing to do though.

I said why do you ask. This thread is not about sex. Its about kissing. Yet you asked for some strange reason

How is my sex life any of your business?

I think some of the answers here are so weird! It's totally possible to have a normal physical relationship and not enjoy kissing with tongues 😂. OP, once the initial honeymoon period is over I don't enjoy it. It's never been a dealbreaker in any relationship I've been in

Hotchocolateandsnow · 29/10/2025 15:13

Im with you OP, I have always found kissing a bit odd, the more I think about it the more it gives me the ick.
