Should I be worried about what Uber Delivery Man said to me tonight

Hello everyone
I have a Mercedes Car on my driveway but with a Wheel Clamp on it, DD ordered a Delivery with Uber, I answered the door and the Uber Man said to me can I ask you something I said yes then he said is the Wheel Clamp on your Mercedes Car safe I said why are you asking and he said to me just want to know if the Wheel Clamps are safe for security reasons as I want one for my Car.
Just felt very strange for a Uber Delivery Man to ask me if that and I’m now wondering if he wanted to know if he was up to something.

Threads like this make me wonder how some people manage to function in daily life. Overthinking casual, inconsequential smalltalk must be exhausting.

Last time a delivery driver made enquiries about my Mercedes Car’s security, I woke up on the middle of the night to find he had come into my home, eaten all the food in the cupboards, and had drank all the water in my taps. I had to go out to the cafe for sausage, chips and ice cream. I bought a big tin of Uber Driver food in case he ever did it again, but he never did.

At least daddy’s beer was safe 😁

Irenesortof · 28/10/2025 05:55

He just wanted a personal opinion about wheel clamps.

RoastLambs · 28/10/2025 06:06

You should go and collect your own food, or cook it. Then you wouldn’t have to converse with the masses.

But usually they’re when someone’s parked illegally and is clamped, rather than intentionally put on as a security device by the car’s owner. It se3ms to me a perfectly reasonable question.

This. It’s hardly normal to see a Mercedes purposefully clamped by the owner.

RedRiverShore5 · 28/10/2025 06:11

It's probably easier on a car to use one of those steering wheel locks which seem to becoming popular again and are recommended nowadays if you have an easy to steal car

They’re so easy to steal with keyless entry though. They just cut through steering locks with a portable angle grinder, so a wheel clamp is an extra layer of security. I don’t think it’s odd to protect a car worth £50-100k.

HellsBalls · 28/10/2025 06:25

OP must live in a rough area if they have to clamp the car.

Maybe not if she’s paranoid from small talk

ByeByeThyroid · 28/10/2025 07:13

Yeah he’s definitely gonna steal your car Hmm

Disturbia81 · 28/10/2025 07:19

I’ve never seen one so I’d be curious too

mamagogo1 · 28/10/2025 07:20

I’ve never seen a wheel clamp apart from enforcement ones, you learn new things everyday!

LillyPJ · 28/10/2025 07:34

I can't imagine what you think is wrong with what he said. Are you always this paranoid?

LillyPJ · 28/10/2025 07:37

This thread has to be a wind-up.

RubySquid · 28/10/2025 07:39

CloudSky · 27/10/2025 22:50

Cars are stolen to order these days, they are trailered off due to immobilisers etc. A wheel clamp won’t stop them.

Lol true. I think my Vauxhall is safe from that though. Most people with fancy cars on drives here ( that are not gated) have a couple of poles that lay downtown get in then locked up again preventing car from being taken out

MaggieBsBoat · 28/10/2025 07:41

You know what Ali G would say…

shouldIstayorshouldIgo888 · 28/10/2025 07:42

Oh, Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Car?

BunnyLake · 28/10/2025 07:42

You said Mercedes twice in a relatively short OP.

Are you worried he wants your car?

RubySquid · 28/10/2025 07:43

TeenLifeMum · 28/10/2025 00:14

Why so people with Mercedes never just say we have a nice car on the drive? Always “we have a Mercedes” - is Mercedes that much of a status symbol. They used to be seen as posh when I was younger but I didn’t realise that was still a thing.

Tbh I find Audis much nicer to drive

LillyPJ · 28/10/2025 07:47

FlutterShite · 27/10/2025 23:24

Can people please remember to put a capital C on Car, when they write Mercedes Car? Thank you. Have some respect for someone with a Mercedes Car.

But also 'Wheel Clamp' and 'Delivery Man'! It's definitely a Skoda car (with a very small 'c') parked outside my house.

SparklyGlitterballs · 28/10/2025 07:47

Wouldn't worry me. If he was eyeing it up I doubt he'd announce it first. I'd have answered in the positive, saying they're extremely safe and difficult to remove (even if they aren't).

BallerinaRadio · 28/10/2025 07:49

Obviously your only course of action is to pack up and move. Totally different postcode. Maybe even a totally different county. Actually that might still not be enough.

Clearly your only course of action to keep your Mercedes safe is to leave the country.

🙄

Useyourfork · 28/10/2025 07:53

xxxwd · 27/10/2025 22:31

Why was it relevant that the car was a Mercedes?

Because ‘it’s a fast car,
a very fast car’

Crunchienuts · 28/10/2025 07:58

I’ve never seen a car wheel clamp on someone’s drive but maybe I don’t move in right circles! If he was planning on coming back to steal your car this would be a very stupid question on his part.

Bundleflower · 28/10/2025 08:00

Yes. Rather than the thousands of cars this blatant thief sees a day, he’s casing out the very car with a wheel clamp on it to steal - enduring to first have chit chat with the owner. He’s probably never seen a car as luxury as a Mercedes before.
