Should I be worried about what Uber Delivery Man said to me tonight

Hello everyone
I have a Mercedes Car on my driveway but with a Wheel Clamp on it, DD ordered a Delivery with Uber, I answered the door and the Uber Man said to me can I ask you something I said yes then he said is the Wheel Clamp on your Mercedes Car safe I said why are you asking and he said to me just want to know if the Wheel Clamps are safe for security reasons as I want one for my Car.
Just felt very strange for a Uber Delivery Man to ask me if that and I’m now wondering if he wanted to know if he was up to something.

OP posts:

I read about this in my local paper. Delivery drivers ask you if they’re safe and if you say ‘no, they’re just for show’ then they creep back in the dead of night and just ping them away with their little fingers and drive off with your car. Only evidence is their Uber scooter left behind. Good on you for being vigilant. You have a Mercedes after all!

Why do you keep calling it a “Mercedes car”? Is it to differentiate it from your Mercedes van?

NotForTheMoneyandNotForTheApplause · 27/10/2025 23:19

Is that you Sheila Bloom?

BingBongBish · 27/10/2025 23:19

LOL this is absolutely batshit OP 🤣🤣

He as simply asking if they're reliable.

The end.

Evaka · 27/10/2025 22:15

Eh? Sounds like he was making chit chat and asking whether you'd recommend something he's interested in.

Agreed.
Did you post just to tell us you've got a Merc... ? 🤔🤣

PucaBandearg · 27/10/2025 23:21

NotForTheMoneyandNotForTheApplause · 27/10/2025 23:19

Is that you Sheila Bloom?

That's what I thought 😆😆

Or one of MN worst brag posts.

SweetnsourNZ · 27/10/2025 23:23

I have but only only project cars. People put them on caravans and trailers too. Wouldn't use them on a car you use everyday though.

FlutterShite · 27/10/2025 23:24

Can people please remember to put a capital C on Car, when they write Mercedes Car? Thank you. Have some respect for someone with a Mercedes Car.

MyAmusedPearlSquid · 27/10/2025 23:27

Lol he isn't going to tell you he's about to rob it mad 🤣

Survivor2020 · 27/10/2025 23:28

Honestly talk about paranoia. The man is probably just asking an honest question. I've never seen a wheel clam on a car, I've seen steering wheel locks.

BarbaraVineFan · 27/10/2025 23:28

Why are you using Random Capital Letters in your post, OP? Are you Daniel Defoe?

AnnaPhylax · 27/10/2025 23:28

This is stealth boast mentioning the mercedes, then anti stealth boast that you live in an area where you have to clap your own car on your drive 🤷🏼‍♀️

tragichero · 27/10/2025 23:29

Is it just me, or do there seem to be a lot of threads on here lately taking exception to perfectly normal stuff delivery people have said and done?

For example there was a woman who wanted to report an IKEA delivery guy for asking for a drink.

Is it because delivery people don't earn very much, so are seen as some kind of sub-class of human?

I won't lie, it makes me feel quite defensive/angry. My ex was a delivery driver. There are lots of things I would take objection to about him, but the way he did his job wasn't one of them. It's an often unpleasant, tiring and badly paid role, but pretty essential to our lives in this day and age. I for one am incredibly grateful that there are men and women willing to do this work, despite the poor pay and poor working conditions.

My elderly mother is my dad's full time carer and can rarely leave the house. She absolutely relies on delivery drivers, and apart from me and her neighbour they are often the only people she sees from one week to the next. She is often telling me how a delivery driver has brightened her day with a bit of friendly chat at the door....

Sorry, rant over. Apologies if I am heinfnunfair, but threads like this really bug me.

I know, it’s so sweet. Where I live we leave Mercedes Cars out as pawns for the criminals to take, so they leave the good stuff alone.

Missey85 · 27/10/2025 23:36

Can nobody say anything anymore? Sounds like he was just asking a question? 🤷

Cupofteawithsugar · 27/10/2025 23:36

So every day when you get back from work/the shops etc, you put a wheel clamp on your own car, on your own drive? Then you remove it in the morning before you go out? How long does this take to put on and take off? Do you use this when you park on a street or in a car park?

I’ve never heard of one of these being used for this purpose, I’m so intrigued!

Tetchypants · 27/10/2025 23:37

I really hope OP sees him driving around in his even-better-than-hers Mercedes Car.

Obeseandashamed · 27/10/2025 23:38

I’ve not seen wheel clamps being used since I was a youth in the 90’s so I can understand his curiosity!

Probably the same kind of people on here that act like tradespeople are scum and will somehow leave there poor people germs if they use the bathroom 🤷

CrispsPlease · 27/10/2025 23:45

Unfortunately I think you're being classist and making judgements based on his job and measuring it against you're more wealth alluding possessions.

If he was planning on stealing your car , he'd not be doing himself any favours by appearing on your (?ring door bell or similar, guessing you've got one ?) making himself recordable and traceable via the delivery, and then asking you questions in relation to the car he's going to steal. Hardly the mind of a career criminal is it ?

If you don't trust the "dodgy" foreign/poor People... Get in your car and get the food yourself.

Mumsnet is a very classist site.

Try announcing you completed your family by late 20s!

Snobby Mumsnetter: "oh, I'm sorry you missed out on a career dear! "

Me: "oh, I've got a decent enough career thanks "

Snobby Mumsnetter: "well you clearly missed out on travelling. We've travelled the world before having kids at 40"

Me: "actually we did a fair bit of travelling pre kids"

Snobby Mumsnetter: "you're clearly lying. Nobody can possibly do all that and hand kids pre 35yrs old. You're obviously unhappy with your choices and are trying to protest too much "

Really ? Me ? 🤨

That's a suspicious line of questioning, got your eyes on the ops Mercedes Car have you....👀🧐🤔

TeenLifeMum · 28/10/2025 00:10

I’d assume he lives in a dodgy area and you’ve given him inspiration to invest in a wheel clamp. I’ll be honest and say I’ve never seen one except when people have parked illegally.

I haven’t. At first I assumed you meant your car had been clamped by a parking official.

I don’t ever see them.

Think he was just asking if you rated it.
