Should I be worried about what Uber Delivery Man said to me tonight

Hello everyone
I have a Mercedes Car on my driveway but with a Wheel Clamp on it, DD ordered a Delivery with Uber, I answered the door and the Uber Man said to me can I ask you something I said yes then he said is the Wheel Clamp on your Mercedes Car safe I said why are you asking and he said to me just want to know if the Wheel Clamps are safe for security reasons as I want one for my Car.
Just felt very strange for a Uber Delivery Man to ask me if that and I’m now wondering if he wanted to know if he was up to something.

@ML5

Well I have a wheel clamp on my Rolls Royce La Rose Noire Droptail that I sometimes keep on my driveway, and it's never been nicked yet. I do have a quarter mile long driveway though, that has cctv peppered along it, so that puts the feeves off.

When I read your post, I actually looked up domestic wheel clamps on google to see if you can do this easily. I think most people would be curious and Ive never seen it done before on a drive either

They are generally used for caravans and trailers, often it's a condition of caravan insurance to have one.

xxxwd · 27/10/2025 22:31

Why was it relevant that the car was a Mercedes?

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 27/10/2025 22:32

Its not like he asked how do you take it off...just if safe as wants one for his car! So probably just wants one for his car. Like said bit of a crap thief if making it obvious...

Good to know thanks.

Why do you have a wheel clamp on your car

TheatricalLife · 27/10/2025 22:47

I asked someone which lock they had on their electric bike when they were securing it outside a shop a few weeks ago. I want one for my bike and thought I'd ask his opinion. I can assure you I wasn't looking to steal his bike. I'd be a bit thick to point it out to him beforehand if I was.
Being an uber driver I'm sure he is just looking at ways of securing the car he uses for his job.

Maybe they live in a really ropey area?

ML5 · 27/10/2025 22:49

He didn’t have a car he had motor bike

Probably to stop someone stealing it of course

Cars are stolen to order these days, they are trailered off due to immobilisers etc. A wheel clamp won’t stop them.

ML5 · 27/10/2025 22:49

He didn’t have a car he had motor bike

Well he told you he has a car, so presumably has one at home?

Redpeach · 27/10/2025 22:52

Is it relevant that your dd ordered an uber

Sometimeswinning · 27/10/2025 22:54

Kiss your car goodbye! Sounds like he’s tricked you out of some important information!!

JadziaD · 27/10/2025 22:55

ooh, someone from the dirty masses dared to ask you a question that can't possibly be relevant to him because of course, he couldn't possibly have a nice car he wants to protect, or even a normal car, or even just an interest in car safety on behalf of friends or family.....

Did you feel he should have tugged his forelock when he came in?

I'm constantly surprised by how outraged people are by perfectly normal conversations between people. I asked my uber driver once whether he felt his dashcam was worth it as i was considering one and whether he recommended a particular brand. Was I dodgy? or is that okay? And if so, why? Is it because I am "above" him in the heirachy....?

GriGreen · 27/10/2025 22:56

Ive got 3 Mercedes on my drive, non with wheel clamps, I’ve only ever seen wheel clamps on trailers.

You know you’re allowed to own both? 🤣

I bet he does have a car. Having a motorbike doesn't prevent you having a car. They're not mutually exclusive.

whatisthegoddamnholdup · 27/10/2025 22:59

Fuck sake 🙄

Chickensky · 27/10/2025 23:01

"Oh Lord won't you buy me..."

Got that little ear worm going round in my head now 🤣

Why is there a wheel clamp on your car?

Quite common where I live. A few of my neighbours have them on both their cars on driveways and on street parking, especially work vans.Friends of ours were followed home one night and had both their cars stolen off their drivesway at the same time, so now clamp their cars.

Dagnabit · 27/10/2025 23:06

A Merc and a mid week Uber delivery? Calm down, Rockefeller! 🧐

TheThingsYouDoForLurve · 27/10/2025 23:08

He didn’t have a car he had motor bike

… when he did the delivery

How on Gods green earth do some people leave the goddam house?

WagnersFourthSymphony · 27/10/2025 23:10

No.

I didn't know wheel clamps on the drive way were a thing.

Are you trying to sell wheel clamps?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 27/10/2025 23:13

He didn’t have a car he had motor bike

Oh well that settles it.
He was definitely a wrong 'un.

Your car will be toast by the morning.
