Chemist doesn't sell loo roll

Today I went for a walk with my dog , on the way back I realised I needed to get paracetamol and toilet rolls and rather than drive somewhere I walked back home via the chemist.

I asked the owner and his wife where the toilet rolls were and they said they don't sell it.
I was rather shocked as the chemist had toothpaste , shampoo, pile cream, Imodium , bubble bath etc etc.

" A chemist without toilet rolls how bizarre" , I said in a loud voice.
" Come on Leonard , we are off ," I said to the dog ( As in Catherine Tate ) .
Am I being unreasonable?

I don't think I have ever seen loo rolls in a chemist. It's usually pharmacy or cosmetics.

I could be mistaken, but a chemist isn't where I would have expected to find loo rolls.

ShenandoahRiver · 26/10/2025 15:38

I’m embarrassed for you.

TheFlis · 26/10/2025 15:40

I don’t recall ever seeing loo rolls in my local pharmacy or even Boots.

Needmorelego · 26/10/2025 15:41

Boots do I think but not independent traditional pharmacies.
They sell tissues sometimes though.
🤔

NellieElephantine · 26/10/2025 15:41

Totally get you op, my village newsagents doesn't sell Chablis older than 2020.... heinous!

zzplea · 26/10/2025 15:42

Maybe it takes up too much shelf space relative to the amount of it they sell and loss of opportunity to stock/sell other products.

dementedpixie · 26/10/2025 15:43

Did you go into the local corner shop afterwards as they would sell the toilet rolls you needed?

ThePoshUns · 26/10/2025 15:48

I have never seen toilet rolls being sold in a pharmacy. How embarrassing for you.

GRCP · 26/10/2025 15:51

I’ve never seen toilet roll in a chemist

Greggsit · 26/10/2025 15:55

No. Would never think of a chemist for loo roll. Don't think I've ever seen it in one

Weekendwatch · 26/10/2025 15:55

Mine doesn’t sell bog roll

nor is it open on a Sunday

MoominMai · 26/10/2025 15:56

Not really that bizarre surely lol. They’re a business and many I believe are independently owned so they’re hardly going to stock up on non pharmacy essentials especially stock that takes up a lot of shelf space compared to the profit margin it would yield. Hopefully Leonard explained all that to you during the walk back home though 🙃.

ConBatulations · 26/10/2025 15:57

Our local one often has empty shelves and doesn't open at lunchtimes or weekends so is pretty useless.

Notagain75 · 26/10/2025 15:58

AliceInNorthumberland · 26/10/2025 15:59

Ive seen it in ours but not as a regular product

Poodlelove · 26/10/2025 16:00

They always used to sell it when I would run in get that and Imodium as an emergency.
No corner shop , just Chinese , tattoo shop, hairdresser and coffee shop.

I would never think to go to the chemist to pick up loo roll.

lazyarse123 · 26/10/2025 16:00

Just because pp haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I have seen plenty of chemist's sell toilet roll and kitchen roll, usually in baskets and fairly cheap.
Usually a Cohen's or Lloyds Chemist. So probably dependant on where you live.
We obviously live in a lower class area op going by all the judgy "bizarre" posts.

TeenLifeMum · 26/10/2025 16:00

How often do you buy Imodium? I think I’ve bought it once and I’m 43.

dizzydizzydizzy · 26/10/2025 16:01

As PPs have suggested - loo roll is bulky and low margin and they want to have space for small higher value items that are more at the core of their business like supplements and make up, and medical stuff like dressings Sorry OP, but they probably laughed their heads off after you closed the door. Nevermind, it'll all be forgotten by tomorrow.

That's an odd question. Lots of people have digestive issues that would necessitate buying it.

I thought it was just when you have diarrhoea, didn’t realise it was something you take regularly 🤷🏻‍♀️

Every time I'm about to go to a country with hygiene issues. Have used it in various Latin American countries, Nepal and India.

ClaredeBear · 26/10/2025 16:07

As others have said, a lot of space for minimal return.

BlueandPinkSwan · 26/10/2025 16:11

I feel sorry for Leonard having to listen to OP asking for loo rolls.😆
