You literally couldn’t make this shit up.

This country is broken.

Reform should send David Lamey a big thankyou note for this gift.

There isn’t any. The real statistics will show again and again that white British men are the most dangerous men in this country (and probably the planet too but that’s a whole other story).

Oh my. 🤣

Might want to check where we come on the list of countries involved in modern slavery/oppression. Or the global slavery index. Oh wait, we're not actually on the worst offenders list, neither is any other western country.

CoffeeCantata · 25/10/2025 11:32

I think we have been brainwashed to believe that the accusation of racism trumps every other consideration. It’s better to allow almost anything to happen as long as you don’t appear to be racist.

It’s a mixture of self-regarding vanity and utter cowardice. So many people want to say - and be applauded for saying - the ‘right’ things, like gorgeous, sophisticated, metropolitan Maria Frostrup rather than be thought one of those awful, common nobodies who are on the receiving end of Britain’s asylum system.

Yes absolutely

This.

It's pretty much what Hirsi Ali said about white/western feminists. Shock revelation: many of them don't like her anymore and claim she's 'been captured by the alt right'. 🤣

I'm as left wing as they come. Am pro free movement with the EU, think people who voted brexit are frankly thick and responsible for the mess we're in now. But I would boot out every asylum seekers man from these countries with hideous attitudes to women and do everything we can to rescue as many women and girls as we can from those awful hell holes. The man can fuck off back and sort their country out and make it safe for women and girls if people are so convinced they don't share those hateful attitudes.

When you say ‘mess we’re in now’ and Brexit what are you referring to, the asylum process?

Other EU countries have similar male violence issues, look at Dublin over the last week.

I’m sorry, did you just use a slavery argument to try and disprove my point? Are you aware that Britain (and therefore British men) practically invented slavery in the 1700’s?

You know, the Transatlantic slave trade? Did you even bother to learn in school?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/10/2025 12:08

I don't think an asylum system should be about giving random young men the opportunity to find better lives. Frankly, if a young man is healthy and wealthy enough to make it to the UK, everyone (except him) would be better off if he stayed in his home country and worked to improve it. As I've said previously, I feel differently about the truly vulnerable. But these men are not that

And this is the fly in the ointment with allowing asylum cases to be processed abroad, Noodledog, especially when local authorities are much more likely to know which well rehearsed horror stories are likely to be lies

Admittedly there's the risk of locals "passing" applicants just to get rid of them onto someone else, but if the system worked properly they'd very likely be rejected - and once this became known, where's the incentive to "apply properly"?

I think we need proper, legal routes into this country

Edited to add we already have them, @ninjahamster, but as already said those who know perfecetly well they'll never meet the criteria are hardly likely to use them

OMG….where to start?

Don’t they teach history any more in schools?

You think Britain invented slavery???? Jeez.

Every strong power (usually an empire by definition) has used slaves since the year dot and long before. The Ancient Mesopotamians, the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs and most certainly African rulers, plus China and the Mongols etc etc etc.

I despair of some people on these threads.

Please, for the sake of us all, go and educate yourself.

TheaBrandt1 · 25/10/2025 12:18

The lack of education is embarrassing. British invented slavery! They ended it. Every empire before has had it currently reading about the Romans slavery was a normal everyday thing for them.

What are the legal routes? I thought they were limited to a small handful of countries?

Quite!

And I forgot to add to my list of slavers - all the European empires, of which the British was frankly one of - if not THE - least unpleasant. I wonder if Swiftasthewind has any clue about what went on in the Belgian Congo or during the French-Algerian war of about 100 years ago? You’ll need a strong stomach, Swift.

I’m a huge admirer of Ayan Hirsi Ali. An incredibly brave and intelligent woman - and a childhood victim of FGM.

You will find a lot of the supporters will never encounter this sort of experience because they are tucked away in their leafy enclaves shouting about racism without having to deal of any of these lived realities.

I agree, as an individual I am vehemently opposed to racisim and have always been happy to live in a racially mixed community. However a few years ago we had an influx of Roma people who have made no attempt to adapt to or adopt the social rules that the majority of us abide by. The council refer to them as "emerging communities" and say that they need educating about how to settle here. They have been here for around 7 years and nothing improves.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/10/2025 12:38

HRTQueen · 25/10/2025 09:51

A country, Egypt in this case, where a men can still have up to four wives is as safe for women and girls as the UK

yeah of course it is 🙄

Edited

Also a country where the rate of FGM hovers around 90% depending on source, HRTQueen

In a perverse way it may be just as well male "asylum seekers" do arrive alone if this is the sort of cultural practice they'd intend to foster here - though it would be interesting to see what the enablers had to say to defend even that

How have I? The posters attempting to ‘correct’ me are talking about indentured servitude not slavery which came about when European colonial powers (spearheaded by the British Empire) had the disgusting opinion that they were superior to people who were a different ethnicity to them. I’ve not been wrong at all, I have extensive knowledge of colonial history and I know what I am talking about.

Seems like some of the people on this thread get their historical information from heavily British bias sources.

So not only are you an unpleasant bigot, you are an ignorant one

You know nothing.

The English 'invented slavery'. Hah.

Explain the Barbary slave trade. The trans Saharan slave trade. The history of the Arab slave markets in north Africa. The origin of the word 'slave'. Why there was a plentiful supply of slaves in Benin before any Europeans landed there.

You are an embarrassment.

I think you need to look way further back than the period of European colonialism. And to look at slavers in Africa worked with the Europeans. No one comes out well.

No one is defending slavery, but please don’t try to claim the British invented it or were the only nation to be involved. This idea has taken hold among many people and it’s harmful and inaccurate. I’ve met young people who had no clue that anyone but the British had an empire.

5MinuteArgument · 25/10/2025 13:01

Slavery has always existed. It wasn't invented by the British. Who was it that built the pyramids 5,000 years ago?

VanillaBerthaCake · 25/10/2025 13:09

British men are not the most dangerous demographic on the planet ffs. Yes men from any country present a danger to women but British men aren’t the most dangerous. Try telling that to women in India who regularly get gang raped during broad daylight and men who are passing by will come and join in. They introduced women-only train cars as random gang rapes are so common.

The Arabs used to enslave the Africans but that is rarely mentioned
