You literally couldn’t make this shit up.

This country is broken.

Reform should send David Lamey a big thankyou note for this gift.

Rather than focusing on whether or not to take refugees, we should simply stop and instead our main priority should be to stop creating refugees.

The UK gets involved in ridiculous wars and conflicts that have nothing to do with us, and then we act surprised when people flee those areas.

Stop taking refugees, and stop bombing other countries.

I agree we should stop getting involved with things that destabilise foreign countries, so we partially agree!

What have I missed?

If we didn’t allow any of them in and sent them straight back, we’d save even more. Plus a girl in Epping wouldn’t have been assaulted, and a receptionist wouldn’t have been murdered.

This man was a criminal, the vast majority of refugees and asylum seekers are not.

RisingSunn · 24/10/2025 22:21

After hearing the story of the poor woman that was killed after work. I really do think there needs to be some sort of 'pause' to asylum seeker entry until the system and processes are sorted out.

I asked someone earlier - whether authorities even carry out mental health evaluations when processing asylum seekers before letting them roam around communities?

On the other hand - I do find the hypocrisy of many anti-immigrant protestors laughable - as many do not really give a hoot about women/girls safety. A pp highlighted an interesting fact that 2/5 of those arrested at the protests had been arrested/charged for domestic violence!

It really is a mess though - but I think the issue is - that these awful crimes were 100% preventable - and that's where the anger is.

The UK has enough criminals to deal with - without welcoming more.

The risk of one is enough to stop many. Not a single one is worth it. Stop them all.

Even the possibility that one woman might be attacked is enough to mean we shouldn’t admit any at all.

CorneliaCupp · 24/10/2025 22:18

How are we being taken advantage of?

I agree that we seriously need to review our asylum systems and processes, but simply saying that we will not accept any refugees at all is in direct contravention of international law.

by what is going on at the moment with the constant arrival of people on boats

plus the lack of respect for UK laws and money laundering.

I have met and worked with asylum seekers who were deeply traumatised, but good people.
I have worked in schools where children who are here with their parents waiting for or their asylum claims to be processed are coming to school terrified by the protests outside the hotels they are staying in.

This man committed an awful crime and should be deported. However the vast vast majority of asylum seekers and refugees in this country are totally innocent, and shouldn't be punished for his crime.

If we opened safe routes that meant that people could claim asylum without having to come to the UK, a lot of this problem would be solved.

Well put.

I work in criminal justice. The amount of foreign nationals I deal with, including repeat offenders, increases daily, at an alarming rate. Yes we have our own lovely criminals to deal with and there’s already too many of them (for the uber liberals), but it boils my piss that those on various settlement schemes, those seeking asylum, those who are in the country illegally, commit crime.

Some their criminal history goes back years, from the minute they’ve got here. Many can’t be deported whilst they have live cases against them so they commit more crime. Many treat me differently to my male counterparts clearly because I’m a woman. This is my lived experience. Our police are exasperated. We are pathetic when it comes to deporting. I moved to a Middle Eastern country years ago for a period. I wouldn’t have dared to step a foot out of line.

Of course this makes me a racist reform voter for pointing this out 🙄.

#Not all migrants and men.

Thank you for this. The community I live in is very mixed and the males from some backgrounds are verbally misogynistic and intimidating. A friend of mine no longer uses her local corner shop due to the crowds of men who gather outside drinking and blocking the pavement. When she politely asked them to move so she could walk on the pavement to get into the shop she was told "go fuck yourself bitch cunt" and I have had foul things said to me when asking my non-English speaking neighbours to stop shouting in the street. They are very good at swearing despite claiming they cannot speak English. It was not like this a few years ago. I do not go out after dark, too many aggressive drunk males out on the street, two friends of mine have sold up and moved as the area has gone down hill, I cannot afford to move. I have complained about the things that go on next door to me and it transpired that some of the people there were in the country illegally, the only thing that happened was that they cleared off and another lot have taken their place.

Because these crimes would not have happened if the UK asylum system was working. Those little girls and women would not have been raped or killed if these men were not in the country.

Some nationalities commit some crimes at disproportionate rates to the native British, that should not be ignored or swept under the rug. It helps no one.

I'm far from a reform supporter as an immigrant myself, but this is just stupid. Unvetted criminal men should not be given an opportunity to be freely roaming the UK committing crime.

Please give us the stats for that because its been proven to utterly false.
You are far more likely to be hurt by your own family and friends than anyone else

They’d still be here. How would any problem be solved? They’re hardly likely to flag their misogynistic beliefs during the asylum process.

I don’t care if 99.9% are good. It is NEVER worth the 0.01% who’d hurt women and girls.

Bringemout · 24/10/2025 21:29

In recent weeks it’s become really clear to me that there are a lot of women on these boards who prioritise men over female safety.

The argument I see over and over again is that the UK has loads of perverts why worry about a few more. Every single victim of sexual crime is someone who is going to be permanently altered by the experience, anxiety, ptsd, fear. It can blight someones life permanently.

The number of people I see on here who are more worried about not being “racist” than the actual wellbeing of girls and women actually astounds me. It is not racist to suggest that men (and we all agree that men are the problem here) who we cannot vet may possibly be a risk. Especially when I hear the “I didn’t know it was wrong to rape a teenager” over and over again. No-one starts out the life of criminality by stabbing someone 23 times, thats more like an end point. If you come to the Uk legally I assume we expect you to provide information from your home country on your criminal record. We cannot do that in most of these cases.

Yes, it's the rape gang scandal all over again. If the perpetrators of crimes against women are politically inconvenient then it's better to let women and girls be raped or murdered than to look bigoted. It just shows how so many supposedly progressive people really hate women.

It’s not worth it to have what happened to Rhiannon.

On that we will have to disagree.
What happened to Rhiannon was abhorrent, and the man responsible should be held to account, imprisoned and deported. But every asylum seeker and refugee should not have to pay for his crime, any more than I should have to pay for crimes committed by people who live in my neighborhood.

They don’t have to ‘pay’. We should have a better system completely. The one we have is not good for women and girls.

You don't think the UK should accept any refugees at all? Full stop?

I think we should stop taking male asylum seekers and take as many women as we can, get them safe away from the awful men in their countries.
We took tens of thousands of women and children from Ukraine, any of them rape anyone?
